What you're describing is even more flawed. Enforcement of code quality solely through person management is doomed to failure. Automated builds with integrated unit tests are mandatory. Use cases are high-level; they do not document how an API works.

  4. Re:A big stumbling block... on Integrating Agile Development · · Score: 1

I think the idea that tests are the documentation is flawed because prose documentation is helpful and reading code causes people to make assumptions. Not one Java developer I know gets his or her daily work done by looking at the JDK source code. They all read the Javadocs. Rarely do test cases cover the entire breadth of functionality; when people refer to the implementation code for how something works, they will make assumptions that leak out into the code they write. While I do find it unncessary to write books and diagrams, simple prose API documentation is essential. Most of us do not want to wade through a bunch of test code just to see how something should be used. If the idea is that API documentation is just another point of maintenance, then tests should be avoided for the same reason.

I do not disagree that companies should have the ability to choose who they hire, but that needs to be done fairly, which is why anti-discrimination laws exist. By your logic, if a company tells someone she can't work for them because she is a woman, she should suck it up and go start her own company. The reason we don't live in a system of unchecked capitalism is the same reason we have any laws at all -- it allows for some semblence of civilization, which is what prevents the majority from crushing the minority.

I repeat, no one has proven that they are forgeries. Your post does nothing to further the claim that they aren't real. Besides, the case against Bush doesn't hinge on those documents. There is plenty of evidence that he blew off his duty. Those documents only highlight his preferential treatment, which is pretty much universally accepted as fact anyway.

I do understand that CBS screwed up by not digging deep enough, but that does not mean that Bush should get a free pass for being a hypocrite.

I wish the right wing weren't so selective about where it applies its rigor and fact-checking; then we wouldn't be out fighting wars that have no justification.

Of course the left wants to drag the guy down. To have blown off his duty and then told everyone otherwise is a pretty big lie when he is drawing attention to his service as part of his campaign and working so hard to tarnish his competitor.

No one is disputing the accuracy of the information CBS has. The argument is about whether those are the original documents. Killian's secretary already told the press that fake or not, the content of those documents is truth.

When you speak of the computational complexity of an algorithm, you must define what constitutes a computational step. The total cost of the algorithm is then based on these steps. For example, when people say that binary search runs in O(log n) time, they mean that it takes a logarithmic number of steps (where n is the number of possible values to search through) and the computational step is a comparison of two values. What you are doing is saying that the computational step is the movement of tape, which changes the model. That does not prove that binary search's running time is no longer a logarithmic number of comparisons.
