If you're duplicating money, that's called counterfeiting. Actually now that you mention it, counterfeiting is a better term for copying music/games/movies than piracy.

The NSW Computer Crime dudes are getting between 60 and 80K I believe, which is quite good. PS: I don't know what industry you are working in, but forensic sysadmin work doesn't pay 120K in Australia :P

I know some guys in the computer crimes squad of the NSW police, they aren't idiots, and they aren't scared of linux.

One of the parents is correct that they're likely to just get a warrant, pull your PC/laptop apart and put some kind of wacky hardware keylogger in there instead.

No. (Although I will concede that it could be 'Not yet')

PS: Regardless of the whole steam/valve thing, my personal experience is: I bought it on steam, it took about 10 minutes to decrypt on release day, I finished it in 5 days [and in my opinion it is definately the best FPS of all time], and now aside from mods, or me wanting to reminisce about how good it was, I will probably won't load steam again until HL3 comes out.

The only people who seem to be having problems are the ones buying the game on CD, and they are being fucked by Vivendi, not Valve. [No love lost in that relationship]. Buy it directly from steam and I'd imagine you would have a lot less problems.

PS: Wait for them to fix the stuttering bug first, if you aren't desperately panting to play it. Apparently the fix is being released some time today, but who can tell in this breakneck paced world of the internet.

Well, anyone who can read the source code can do their own O/S support. If Red Hat disappeared tomorrow, linux wouldn't die due to the lack of a vendor providing support. If Sun died tomorrow, I am sure support would still be available for SunOS10.. [albeit in a rudimentary form, until the community got organised].

Surely open source means that applications can be ported to Solaris with no/very little pain. I don't see how 'application lockin' will help you, and even if it does, how would you feel about linux turning into the next 'Windows', where people can't change because their apps are locked.
