Since when was Seattle considered a part of Australia??
I've lived here all my life, and unless you're trying to crack a joke about Silverchair (or the Vines, or the..., or the...) sounding 98% identical to Nirvana/the whole seattle sound circa 1992, you've fucked up Mr AC.
indeed... being the parent poster, im amazed i got modded up at all. had a shit day at work, and needed to yell at something, so a random spelling nazi remark was what i needed:)
You pay through the nose for a shitty service, and until they fix that, both in price and reliability, I'll stick to abusing my work bandwidth and stay with the trusty old agravatingly slow, but unlimited bandwidth, 56K dialup for home net access.
At least with a dialup deal, I can set up bulk downloads of whatever (no i'm not a p2p junkie) and leave the auto-redialer on to re-connect when i get disconnected. i'd rather that than have to pay A$80+ for a decent home broadband connection.
why don't you tell me who you believe attacked the... Bali nightclub full of Australians and that hotel in Indonesia a few days ago?
I think you'll find that in both cases, it was Jemaah Islamiah, which, while being a terrorist group, is only linked to Al Qaeda because now *all* terrorist groups are linked to them. Its an easy catch-all for the media and government to say that Osama is behind everything - helps convince people that he is a bad man. I'm not disputing that he's a bad man, but do you seriously think that he said to the JI people "hey, why don't we bomb the Marriot hotel in Jakarta?" I don't and wouldn't.
Oh and dont forget that of the 202 people killed in Bali, only 88 were Australian and about half of them were Indonesians, but I guess in the world of worthy and un-worthy victims, an Indonesian life isn't as important as an Australian or other "western" life.
man, i'm a white, balding male in australia (about 6-7 generations white) and have always had a pretty hefty beard, and i got wierd looks and called names by people after the whole WTC thing.
Even security at my university where i worked stopped me and asked to see my ID.
Just because it didnt happen to you doesnt mean it doesnt happen.
At the university library I work at, we have a Xerox multifuntion printer/fax/scanner/photocopier, nfi how much it is worth but its superb. Its been under *heavy* usage for the past 5 years, and has been serviced maybe once or twice in that time. I realise you're talking about smaller machines, and this may be the exception to your "almost always a bad idea" but this one is great.
well, the last one is over 2 years old, and as he said in his speel, "a few thousand dollars or a few computers does not let a programmer eat next month".
So I'm guessing that Cyclades, Sangoma and VA gave him a few computers, a few cards, and a few grand, but it (obviously) wasn't enough to keep him going.
good point - a whole bunch of my friends and me have been brewing beer for the past 4-5 years, we trade them, have our own competitions, invite everyone we know around to someone's place and all get completely fucking hammered on it, its all good.
Its absolutely not a lost art.
I'm experimenting with honey and orange rind at the moment, trying to make a nice summer brew (got winter on its way, so by the time summer comes round it should be alllll good)
Who would rather watch Pokemon and Hey Arnold than Transformers or Voltron?
Probably the same amount of Pokemon + Hey Arnold fans that would rather watch Transformers or Voltron.
Don't get me wrong - I much prefer Transformers + Voltron, and thoroughly enjoy manga/anime, but my little cousins don't enjoy the same cartoons that I do, and I don't like theirs.
I just picked up the Battle of the Planets DVD's recently and had a complete religious experience where I went back to being 6 years old in front of the tv. My 8 year old cousin came in and watched about 2 minutes of it before he said "this is crap" and left. I was tempted to kill him, but he's not what me and my friends were. Kids today arent the kids we were, for whatever reason. I guess its up to us to realise that as time moves on, so does the tv programming schedule.
Just to clarify that the kitchen sink is not actually included in mozilla...
from the linked story Please note that this is not actually included in the browser package, so it doesn't add to mozilla's bloat. Instead, about:kitchensink directs the user to the xml document on mozilla's website
If any of these game testers want to do a job swap, bring it on. I'll more than readily trade my 35 hour week office job for a 60+ hour week playing games and getting paid for it.
Being an employee @ Sydney University, over the past 6 years, I've noticed that there arent that many "starving students" anymore, but increasingly many, many more full-fee paying international and post-grad. students, and young rich first years who's daddy bought them a spot here because of some perceived "prestige" - you know, the sorta students who can afford to stay in hyper-expensive university owned accomodation.
Oh, and I've never swapped music files using the Uni network... not anyone who'd care anyway (as in not commercial music, but no-name out-of the way bands/producers)
why yes, just today i read in the newspaper that there is no link between the inevitable war between the US, UK and.AU* and Iraq and bin Laden, and that it is clearly dubbya making amends for "wrongs done" in the past. oh and oil. but dont tell the US administration that. they dont admit to that. yet.
and to think I had missed this point all along. just WHAT was I thinking?!
* among other things read in the paper was John Howard saying that no Australian soldiers will be committed to a non-UN sponsored war with Iraq without a parliamentary debate, despite the fact that soldiers/saliors/aircrew have been sent to the Gulf, over a week away from this date?!?!!
John Howard - do you really take us for idiots? (no need for any follow up posts to this, we all know that JH does indeed take us for idiots. lets just hope that the Liberal party get voted out by a record margin in the next election;)
But this ones about a story on a breakfast tv show in australia about a lobby group wanting to introduce levies, not about Bill C-32 Copyright Legislation getting passed in Canada.

I congratulate the makers of that pole for making such tremendous nominations
FUCK! ITS POLL YOU DIPSHITS NOT "POLE"... JESUS FUCKING H CORBERT!!!
How many indie artists sell out big venues?
How many major label artists sell out said venues?
The money isn't in cd sales, its in the live shows with the $70+ entry fees...
Do you think Burt Bacharach (just for a random big artist) makes more money from touring or from CD sales?
also in Australia and both .com and .net domains are resolving to Versign.
similar deal here in australia, where we have a nutjob Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts who thinks that pornography is one of the major reasons why there's been a high take-up rate (of broadband) in South Korea and uses this (and a belief that kids only want broadband access to play games) as a reason to not fund, or agitate for, improved broadband access here in Australia.

ah - I hadn't yet got to Rival Turf -- that is pretty bloody shocking.
some of them aren't too bad. they look pretty anime-ey, but they aren't too shabby at all.

to me, that certainly looks like the 30th of September, 2000.
Fix how you display your dates.

They are going to be working on a live action version of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Article here

and those bands that tour heaps... make about the same as you would if you signed a record deal, and get to see the countryside too.

especially when "two young boys" and "temptation" are also mentioned in said post...

Tony Blair is Left wing? I thought he was Margaret Thatcher with plastic surgery and a haircut.
the things you learn eh?

There is a difference.
