Yeah i watched this on Today this morning before work, and the guy from Screenrights was trying to say that CD sales have fallen because of p2p + the internet, but then he was saying that CDRs should have a levy placed on sales, because people copy legitimately bought cds for others. he almost seemed to be concerned that they were too cheap - he gave an example of being able to walk into the post office and buy 20 cds for $20 - THE HORROR!!!
when the hard-questioning interviewer asked him how many people were copying cds, the guy had no-idea. when questioned about anything that required specific numbers or figues, he had no idea.
You could almost tell that he knew he was spouting bullshit. but thats generally what you get on the Today Show:)
I only watch it to see what the weather will be - honestly.
Yeah EA picked up Wing Commander in about 1997-ish, it was Origin before that.
Just checked my original box to make sure that the Kilrathi saga is the first one I've got that has the EA logo on it, the earlier ones are all Origin.
on windows 2k @ work, i just download the new version and run the install - as I have been doing since M18 - with no problems at all until i did it today and had to get the pinball skin again, but that wasnt any major drama. this box is as stable as any other windows box, its hasnt crashed or needed to be rebooted in the several months since I got it. I am quite amazed by its stability...
at home, my linux box is still running 1.1, but i'll probably do just the same thing when i eventually upgrade that to 1.2.1
I dont use the sidebar or any of that shit though, so cant comment on the specific things you mention - who wants to clutter up your browser window with IE-esque crud?
is the Post still going? they'd prolly do that too. since i moved out of my parents place, i dont have access to my dads collection of these mags anymore...
... that my room was a tardis. not so much for interstellar travel and everything that the good doctor used to do (although that would be cool), but just so I can fit all my shit in there easily.
dont know how much my cat would like K-9 though...
i took the rca outputs from my turntables and got a rca to 1/8th of an inch (the walkman sized headphone plug) converter and stuck that into the line in on my soundcard (a SB Live) then i fired up goldwave and set it to record the input and recorded it at the highest level possible. you could use absolutely anything that can use.wav files to do it - soundforge, cooledit, whatever. probably even the default windows sound recorder. nfi what is out there for linux, coz i did all this on my windows pc coz its got the better soundcard in it.
i think i used xing mp3 encoder to encode it to 192 kbits, moved it onto a 1 gig HD, once that got to around 700 Mb, burnt it up and freed the space.
re: splitting the songs, i would just rip one track at a time, gave me a chance to listen to albums i hadnt heard in a while:)
In fact, I point Linux beginners to Red Hat or Mandrake for this reason
I used to point new linux users to Red Hat/Mandrake/SuSe but no longer... My younger brother wanted to install linux to "see what linux is like", and I pointed him to the new woody release - I've got a few years of debian experience under my belt, and installing woody on a new box was, to say the very least, significantly less painful than any prior install of it I've ever done.
If the beginner is even a little bit computer savvy, I wouldnt have any problem in recommending an install of Woody as it is a much easier install than previous ones.
ok, I did RTFA, and I live in Sydney (about 7 km from this affected area), and I have to say, shutting down Macquarie, Pitt, Phillip, parts of George and Bridge st's, and Martin Place is more than shutting down 1 long street and area - its basically the whole CBD.
A saturday morning is by far the busiest time for the shops up there... well, next to thursday night shopping.
The first line of the FA says "One of the world's busiest cities will shut down for two days" - presumably sydney is one the busiest city in question.

So because I cant open this "window" right next to me it actually isnt a window, its a ... i dunno - a "light-hole"?
that definition needs to be worked a bit.
And in what way is introducing Mozilla to a workplace "adding in another platform to integrate and support"?
Mozilla is software sir, not an OS.
yep parramatta was hottest for the state on saturday with 45.
ergh - stop drinking before posting...

You can even do a Bachelor of Computer Science (Games Technology) at Charles Sturt University.

except for when you get a Peregrine Falcon in full dive and it clocks up +150 kmph.
I think it might be Picture or People.

its the smh - they only put pictures in if it sports stars, kylie minogue or skimpyly (sp) clad models...
i thought they just replaced the insecure package with a security modified package...?
Particularly given that Rats are in the order Rodentia, and Kangaroos are in the order Diprotodontia.
I guess they are lawyers though...
So Star Trek is geeky, but Dr Who isn't?
Get thee to a video store, and hire a few volumes for the weekend.
Personally I hate Star Trek and all the spin-offs, but Dr Who was hella cool...

Debian runs hard and strong and updates itself.
not without a little input from the console (and i think most debian users would prefer it this way):
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
- unless you run it as a cron job or have it otherwise scripted
we have Richard Alston "The Biggest Luddite in History".
'nuff said.
except we dont have any rattlers here.
maybe a peeved Fierce Snake, Brown Snake, Taipan, Tiger Snake or Death Adder... just to name a few

Use Netscape, doesnt happen there.
As for long term storage... try paper... if produced properlly, it can stand the test of time... several centuries
as long as your paper isn't full of acid.
trust me, im a librarian, and we're spending thousands on de-acidifying our early 1900-1920's books that we have the only known copy of so they last.
