My mom learned how to use linux much like the way many people learned how to swim.
someone threw me into the pool, and it was either swim, or sink. and since im still here typing...
the point is my father did his bi weekly toast of windows and never botherd to put it back on. he runs redhat 7.2 on his dual proccesor p3 machine. he's got 10 uw-scsi2 drives in a software raid.
do you want to guess who 'breaks' the machine more? my mother or my father? same person as always, my father, the unix systems administration man. now i know there are some key differences but still....
my mother checks her email(netscape 6.2) she helps us kids with our resumes (soffice 5.2) she does powerpoint presentations (soffice again) she prints with the hp printer(812). browses the web with a cable connection quite efficently. my mother is by no means a pro. i dont think she (even if she had permission to) could install an rpm not to mention she NEVER touches the console.(before i forget she uses gnome)
the two big things that stick out in my mind.. the only time she has a problem is when the cable service cuts out.. (cable co problem) and she has never, ever said "Linux doesnt work for me because it doesnt look as pretty as windows"
linux works for my mother and thats all she cares about.
enough cop outs about the way it looks, most old people care about functionality, they want to do this this and this, they dont care how, as long as its simple and stable. My father just happens to have it setup that way.
so all your windows users are going ha! she has to have it setup this way! now how many of your parents and grandparents ask you to show them how to do this that and the other thing? all of them! so why not just make the process more stable?
exactly what i needed to know!
i have just emailed my bank informing them of this us code
i then asked for an apology from an actual human and compensation for the calls they have made
will let everyone know how it goes
as always there is an exception to the rule.
however when ive been contacted by the same person three times its upsetting to me and rude of them. the law is all black and white however, and there is no gray areas
now this is seriously an intresting idea.. im sure it costs so much a month for a 900 number i wonder just how well this would work
owns of auto dialers/call center workers, are 900 numbers screened?
smp was the greatest idea of the game, its said to actualy hurt performance in some setups, but basicaly i think it was carmack showing off what an awsome programmer he is just besides being able to build game engines
can you blame him for trying to fuck the system that fucked him?
i havent heard a lick about mitnick since he was set free. i totaly support mitnick with his actions. if the court decides information mitnick has is publicaly available i think he should appeal his suit and get less time away from comptuers.
imagine the ipaq with an 802.11b card and a barcode scanner lets assume this costs you $2,000 for this on the high end, your still beating out hand held computers in the retail buisness, aka telxon symbol etc etc
i did a quick look for icons but didnt find any, when they're drop down box failed i'd had enough of the flashing banners, its to bad that they're site will probly fail because of this
i was looking for something like this some time ago, glad to see something like this being worked on. imagine a phone network of nerds, one phone in each town, means free calls to any town anywere (assuming ofcourse you had access to route through etc. etc.)
i just have one question out there for you telephone company people, what do you think? if this takes over, then ofcourse you'll get your money in internet connection fee's and what not im sure?
if you have a laptop and a digital camera check out gphoto.org i made a script for taking time lapse pictures, its hard to estimate time between for sure because it is possible for communication errors and what not, but take a peak...
#!/bin/bash # comon, do i need to comment that?

(ignore this, fucking slashdot is bitching about to few characters per line, there's nothing i can do about it without murdering my script except to sit here and rant and rave hoping to get this post to go through, two few characters per line, 25.1? what kind of bullshit is this? i mean, this is preventing me from making a decent post, and im mighty pissed off, slashdot needs to find a better way to deal with trolls because they are now disabling the site for regular upstanding users)
i was at a bar in sioux city iowa were they had a machine like this allready. it was just like a juke box self suffecint. for $5 you got 20 songs or so. on the box was a plaque claiming the mp3's were played for, i cant realy remember what it was called at all... i will ask my gf when she comes home and post a response
it had speakers all pre built in and it was touch screen, fairly easy to use...playlist was simple, select what you want to hear in the order you want to hear it, just like a juke box only it was an mp3 player
i was molested at the age of 7 at my elementry school. i was just playing during the summer on a weekend and suddenly it seemed as if everyone had disapeard and only this one man was present. if i had a wrist watch where all i needed to do was press two buttons i know things would have turned out differently
when i have kids they will be wearing this or something like this, when they get older i wont lock it on their arm but they still can use it or carry it around if they want the security
i too thought of this as the way to go at one point in time, but i saw a video of one of the arms you can buy, and it was able to pick them up somehow ( i assume from the center) and move them. so i would like to try it this way. time isnt a big issue, but having to re-arrange cd's everytime? this would also make it so i couldnt make a juke box out of the deal.
first off, thanks for all the responses, i thought about using air and suction methods but i am trying to stay away from it... its either noisey or unreliable, or so it seems in my mind.
im thinking something that drops down just the right height and expands to fill the cd hole. a circle cut in half perhaps with a rubberband around it and then have the half split or slid, as to break the circle shape and put pressure on the cd through the rubberband
the only thing i have a problem with is how the arm would pick up the cd's. if the cds are on a cd spindle sitting flat how would the arm pick them up? even if they wernt on the spindle with the hole sitting there, how would that work? software wouldnt be the hard part. if anyone could provide insight on how to pick up the cd's? i realize that so much in the center isnt touch sensitive, and a little bit around the edges realy isnt touch sensitive, i just havent been able to brain storm anything for grasping the cd's
im not looking at writing cd's so much as making like a juke box to switch through cd's, almost like a cd server. this is for home use so speed plays no role in this what so ever.
tough to decide if its legit or not, assuming it was one dvd or twenty, i doubt it is played directly off of the dvd due to speed constraints, etc etc, ever gotten a finger print or a hair on a dvd? it doesnt play right. just like film, so perhaps they ship on dvd/s and load it up to the hard drives? who knows...

a hacked bios isnt even nesecery all the time, only in certain occasions. depends how lucky you get
dont forget quake3
the more of an ass you are the shittier the treatment you'll get.
however i work retail, and had i been the ceo when i received your mail i would send it right back being an equal ass. the penny is not legal tender.
