  2. Re:NeoOffice is fugly as well... on OpenOffice.org Newspaper Ad Mockup Released · · Score: 1

I ran NeoOffice as the MS Office replacement for about 50 Macs in an art dept. For people who only need Word and Excel a few times a week, it's not bad. I use it personally on OS X because it works well. The users do not have a problem with the looks, because it resembles (good or bad) Office. Never had a problem crashing or flaking out....(now ask me about Thunderbird on OS X, connecting to Exchange and that's a different story)

I personally wouldn't add anything to the OO ad about OS X, because it's not officially an OO project. The only thing I would add, would be professional design. Let designers design and programmers program. Find someone professional to design the ad.

They're not the best of machines, but they're using the same parts as the big guys, so they're not as bad quality as people believe.

What you don't realize is that many hospitals in the US have to take patients reguardless of their ability to pay. They're called "Safety Net Hospitals". There are hospitals that give millions upon millions of care to the people who need it. They have to write it off as a loss, since there is not full goverment reimbursement for many of the procedures.

A sick child will almost always get an operation, because of the need. St Jude, CMT, and many orgs provide funds and hospitals like what I'm talking about *have* to provide care.

Could a DG engineer have used the NUMA architecture and be responsible for the code "leak"? Then again, IBM has the money and DG is dust since the EMC takeover.

If you test under multiple enviroments, Linux and the various Windows, it gets cramped under a desk with all of those PCs. I use VirtualPC so I can test websites under all of the Windows and a few Linuxs without a kvm and the extra floor space.

I have a nice G4 with lots of memory, so the PCs work decent. And if I need to test a variant of one of my test PCs, it's easer to clone a PC image, than setup another machine.

I'm really OS agnostic.....I'll use anything to get my job done. But the Mac just is my preference.

I got a mac, because it's what works for me. I design websites and test them under VirtualPC with Windows 98 & XP along with Linux. Why should I have to buy three boxes to do what some $200 piece of software can do?

It's a big hassle to have three boxes under a desk, just to test a website. The cost justifcation isn't there, once you add kvms, and additional PCs.

I'm up front with my clients, and have to be, since they're the only advertising I use. The price difference, is mainly people taking way too long, doing things like installing network cards and such. It's not a hard thing to do, so why should a $20 card with a manual and drivers, take three hours to install? Why should a basic html template for a small business cost $1k? I've been doing this for 6 years, mainly as a side job, and this has never popped up.

If I needed to bid on a job, I would give them a fair price, but also include my portfolio and references. That down payment in honesty is good, but I also expect a potential client to perform "due diligence" and contact my clients. "Don't take my word for it, call my clients".
