Obviously learn the basics of programming, then read Code Complete, you will quickly realise that this book is a revelation in coding terms, not just coding design, i'm not sure if it's worth reading Code Complete until you have a reasonable level of coding knowledge, then follow the suggested reading on pages 860-863, and a few others at the ends of the chapters, eg: Object oriented design heuristics by Arthur J. Riel, which i'm reading atm and looks good so far. Above all just keep reading, gl:)
