That's a more believable scenario, although I haven't seen it in my router. I looked at the firmware release notes which lists the things they fixed in each revision. The only thing related to NAT is a traceroute issue they fixed.
Regardless, UDP packets are not going to fill up the NAT table.
I have a BEFSR11 that uses the same firmware releases as the BEFSR41. My roomate and I are always listening to streaming music. Streaming music uses UDP. Whenever we have issues with the Internet, it's because of Ameritech.
It's impossible to overflow the NAT table with UDP packets on a few sessions. The NAT table keeps one entry per session, not one entry per packet. If I make a connection to a server and get a stream of a trillion UDP packets, that's one entry in the NAT table used to map the session. You would need to sustain 520 sessions to fill up the NAT table.
They say that the router has a 512KB memory buffer, but I'd assume they meant to say that it has 512KB of memory. Most of that memory is probably filled by the OS and settings. I wonder how much memory is actually devoted to the NAT table.
"It is inherently irrational to punish someone for being good at what they do."
Unless it involves illegal and unfair business tactics like using your stranglehold on the desktop OS market to bitch slap companies that could provide competition.
"Is there something I should know about Microsoft and why it is important enough to merit the posting of such a pre-story?"
Sorry, I guess nobody ever told you. Microsoft is a company so big and powerful that it's called a "monopoly." The effect that monopolies have on the economy are usually seen as negative due to high pricing and the lack of innovation that healthy competition can provide.
When the tide turns against the monopoly for us, the consumers, it's great news that most people will want to read. Especially those that are on Slashdot and openly interested in things related to technology companies.
Considering the percentage of the people on Slashdot that use Windows on their main machine, Microsoft news would make more of a difference to the/. crowd than Linux news.
Wait, I think I figured it out! I forgot to bash Microsoft and the RIAA in my post even though they have nothing to do with the story. When I saw the rejected status, I instantly thought it might be that idiot, Michael who only does reposts, crap very few people care about, and anti monopoly postings. Hmm, look who posted this article.
I have the first one on DVD. Seen it about 4 times (By myself, showing girlfriend, showing mother who read it in her youth, and with my stupid roomate.) For those interested, here's the/. posting about the next one.
Come on guys, two repeats of recent articles in the same day. I saw the article on the AP Wire and did a search on/. for Helix to discover that it was posted two days ago. The other repeat from today is that yellow superworm article. Here's the previous posting.
Crap, should have previewed. Messed up my HTML tag. First link is the previous Helix article. Secnd link is the previous superworm article. Both of which were posted again today.
LOL! I can't believe her post got modded up. if it were a guy whining about his girlfriend leaving him because of computer noise, he'd be modded down into the cold depths of hell for being off topic.
Lady, I think he left you because he couldn't stand to be around you anymore. You're definitely in denial about your personality flaws which is a huge mistake. How can you fix your flaws if you refuse to acknowledge them?.
I'm going to get modded down by some lonely guy because he feels bad for this girl. I can already see the flamebait mod.

I agree. This news is something that should be in a very specific ezine. Might as well start posting prices of Pokemon cards.
Some authors have the idea that the American public is stupid because they aren't fascinated with technology. Did you ever stop to think that a lot of people don't care if the VCR is flashing 12:00?
Regardless, authors that insult the American people should be deported to another country where they think the public is not dumbed down. We're all human, regardless of nationality. I seriously doubt that there's a country where the citizens are 20 years ahead of ours.
I'm the IT guy for a small company. First place I ever worked at that had Christmas bonuses. I think it was like $50 or $100 last year. Nothing huge, but definitely appreciated! We also have free sodas and nobody writes me up if I'm 15 min. late. I love it.:)
I dare you all to hack me!
The biased opinions are required material to get your submission posted by Michael.

I don't know who Tim Bernard Lee is, but the inventor of the WWW, Tim Berners-Lee is still alive and kicking as the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium.
You must be new around here. Michael only posts monopoly bashing posts and stuff only a few care about.

You didn't see the action scene from the "Spank that booty" level?

Sorry, but I'm not getting this one. I'll wait for a slimmer version and then decide if it's even worth purchasing.

Multiple Intel Xeons, a few terabytes of gigabit speed network storage. I wonder what FPS they get in Tux Racer. :)
