Sad. Counting on some superior individual to change the world is one of the hallmarks of most fucked up religions and cultures on earth today.

So just out of the fear of me turning into one of those mfs, I don't ever put on suit in work. Period.

BTW, remember Office Space the movie? It had something that comes close to being topical:

Stan: We need to talk. Do you know what this is about?
    Joanna: My, uh, flair.
Stan: Yeah. Or, uh, your lack thereof. I'm counting and I only see fifteen pieces. Let me ask you a question, Joanna.
    Joanna: Umm-hmm.
Stan: What do you think of a person who only does the bare minimum?
Joanna: Huh. What do I think? Let me tell you what I think, Stan. If you want me to wear thirty-seven pieces of flair like your pretty boy Brian over there, then why don't you just make the minimum thirty-seven pieces of flair?
Stan: Well, I thought I remember you saying you wanted to express yourself.
Joanna: Yeah. Yeah. Y'know what? I do. I do want to express myself. Ok? And I don't need thirty-seven pieces of flair to do it. (gives him the finger) All right? There's my flair! And this is me expressing myself. (holds up her hand) There it is! I hate this job! I hate this goddamn job and I don't need it!! (She storms out.)

As I grew up I had this vague vision of myself as having similar importance in the future. When I eventually was forced to accept that actually, I was pretty much an ordinary guy and would live an ordinary life (actually even Churchill or Shakespeare or whoever are ordinary guys compared to Ender and his siblings), it was a wrenching transition. My life seemed worthless if I couldn't do anything as important and meaningful in the world as Ender. I didn't actually compare myself with Ender explicitly, but the worldview implanted by Ender's Game was floating in the back of my mind, influencing my attitudes.

Books contain ideas and worldviews and if they're false or misleading, real harm is done. In the case of novels it's if anything especially dangerous, because they pack an emotional punch that can strongly influence readers.

It seems you still haven't got away from your delusions since you seem to think that you were emotionally strong enough to notice its evil influence whereas others might be weaker.. Anyway, define shallow life. Or better yet, define real or normal life. I've been defining them for years without acceptable conclusions. They're very context dependent words, is best I can say.

In K5 comment the context was bar and family life. And the point was that rules of that kind of normal life which I described, and which mostly greets me when I go out the door, are so familiar to me that if it'd be game, I'd have switched to another game already. I don't like The Sims, either.

You're right in that real life isn't just another game but it surely can been seen as one and people can survive and even prosper 'playing' real life. Anyway, today we have games so immersive and life-like enough that we can consider them as options or alternatives to real life. And it's only going to get worse/better, which way you like to look at it. But hey, change is always good, right? I know I am very excited about what future is going to be like. It seems it'll be nothing like scifi writers have imagined but as that time draws closer, predictions and visions about it are getting more similar to each other. We can be pretty sure now that virtual life will get big and doubts about mixing it with real, old life, will start to sound funny.

Real life isn't just another game. Stop trying to pretend it is. If it was, gamers wouldn't suck at it so much.

What's the matter, are you scared? We're past pretending now. Gamers may suck at real life because they maybe don't want to play it, they think it's boring, unfair, abusive, etc.
