A single person not being killed because one of these machines caught someone before they had the chance to get on a plane makes it all worthwhile in my books.
One could use that line to make up an excuse for almost any change in widely used procedures. You may say it's not an excuse but think before you say it. How many stupid decisions and overly strict, intrusive security policies are made up based on that particular excuse?
I bought plextor just because it comes with plextools with which you can slow down the drive to 8x CLV (or CAV, can't remember now). ok so it isn't 4x but 8x doesn't make much sound either.
When one thinks only profits, drop facts and accountability, it's easy to answer any question about this issue same way that RIAA would. Just think "which answer broadens or at least keeps our chances to profit?". That's what makes them sound boring, too predictable, nothing new.
It's really useless even try reason with them because of that attitude of theirs. This whole subject has reduced to the point where we battle with analogies and try redefine words for our advance. RIAA has tired messing with this and only place where it's willing to bargain are courthouses.
All beacuse corporations won't change with the world without making big fight in every turn. What's worse, they are allowed to make trouble by law and majority of people still believe in law. If anything it's the largest ones which slow down progress because they tie progress with monetary profits. Maybe we need better indicators for calculating progress than GDP. I know slashdot isn't excactly the best place to discuss this since most of us prefer drooling over new hitech gadgets than women and basic values like food that make life so enjoyable.
In your previous post it was SUV. I'm interested what will you bring up next, an axe or a mallet?
Think bigger than society and laws, think way bigger. We aren't born here to adhere to any given set of rules, we consider what is best for our interests, consider possible threats, consequences, etc. and make decisions and act accordingly. Like any other animal or insect with braincells. It's that simple. We think that recording industry is useless and doesn't provide us anything we couldn't live without so fuck it. It can fight back and it may succeed but that doesn't change anything, we still act the same, calculating our chances, benefits and losses, risks and advantages.
Where in the hell does society fit in this process? It doesn't, it's just a byproduct of large masses of individuals living in same, relatively small area. Laws are there just so that we could live even closer to eachother. But this is just my view, flame away if you like.
We can all listen to the marvelous 'techno' music downloadable for free on mp3.com.
Could you explain how is mp3.coms techno music related to the subject of this discussion?
...copyright lawyer's SUV...Again, could you explain how is copyright lawyer's SUV related to the subject of this discussion?
Did you even tried to understand what parent to your post was saying? It said that RI are making too much money off something that doesn't exist just to make chosen few rich. That RIs is based on flawed and/or twisted business model. It should be teared down so that only people who really want make music even if they won't make living off it get their products out there and get noticed.
The only people around this whole mess thinking about money is RIs, their association and so-called-artists who really just want money and don't give jack shit about music. Users of p2p, concert goers, home listeners, audiophiles, etc.. for them it's the music that matters, not money.
Do not make yourself sound stupid by insisting that expensive equipent and studios are needed to make good music. They are not.
Surely you understand that, don't you? Doom123, Quake123, Mods1..N, this isn't about gameplay, it's about The absolute edge of graphics realism in realtime consumer-level CG. There's no console available that could deliver Doom3 with all effects. Hell, they can't even get decent resolutions.
You could throw all the halos in the world at Doom3 and still it wouldn't make a dent on it's surface. They just aren't in the same league.
Don't get me wrong, I believe halo(2) is all good and nice but comparing it and Doom3 is like comparing apples and hand grenades. Sorry.
Because mozilla dev "team" has billions of cash back ing up it's developement, too. Yes that must be it.
What I'm bitching about MS's fuckedness is their cash reserves and inability to USE them so that stupid bugs like this won't get into released products!
better yet, go buy vaccum cleaner filter sheets and cut them to suitable sizes, those let air flow more freely than paper and you'll have something that's designed for cleaning air. Buy HEPA filter kit for some expensive brand name vacuum cleaner and you'll get even better results.
Even better and quieter solution would be using large table fan: remove the stand, cut big round hole to the side of your computer case, remove frontside protection crate from the fan and attach the fan on the side of your case to blow air inside the case. You can cover the backside crate of the fan with filtering sheets, use noise killer power unit wich won't use it's fans if there's no heat. Effective, quiet and geeky.
Higher Air pressure inside (blowing in instead of sucking out) you case is better because you have control where air goes in ( with lower pressure air leaks in where ever it can and cases aren't very airtight).
Say what you want but buying Sony now gives troubles in future when you want to connect it with all sorts of other devices. There's all sorts of copy protections and crippled interfaces to hamper easy connectivity. And generally it's better to stay away from equipment makers who have close ties to recording and/or movie industry.
As for the audio equipment: I've found these no-frills manufacturers do the best stuff. NAD, Marantz, Rotel, Genelec, Magneplanar, Gradient, etc. you know, the ones which just do it without bells and whistles and flashing lightshows?
something like "Do you install freebsd using floppies?" How many you think would check "yes, I don't have any other ways to do it."?
There are a lot of everything in this world, surprise surprise. Like headless 'nix based gateway boxes around without floppy
I love the "bloat/cripple OSses and other software because someone somewhere might need the features" attitude you have.
Me, I'm waiting for the day freeBSD either succesfully detects and configures X automagically for my videocard (radeon8500) or dies. Mandrake does it, RedHat does it but freeBSD won't, why?
In this case, even when NT4 seems to be terminally broken, there's no reason whatsoever to believe that 2k/xp aren't even after MS has provided it's stinky useless patches for those.
What's the point of MS's pro-secure(haha) stance if it's unwilling to patch even one of it's products so long as it takes to make it bulletproof? NT4 is old but proven and been around so long that seems foolish to throw it away and bring in new OSes with new flaws. Doesn't help much if 2k/xp are "based on NT technology" because at the same time the get bloated with all kinds of new stuff.
One thing MS can't do is keeping it's OSes simple. Unfortunately simplicity is one of the requirements of secure software.
Stuff like thick carpets and curtains, lotsa book shelves, soft furniture and generally covered hard surfaces. That does a lot and doesn't cost you anything, improves sound quality of all audio systems.
Anyway, if it haven't dawned to you already, MS product == POS and that's official. Defending them won't do any good, it only generates flames, hate and wastes everyone's time. We here at slashdot concentrate on bashing MS and that's fun, belive it or not, until along comes trolls like you acting like they'd really really just love all things MS! OR if you're for real, MSN is more appropriate place for your rants, go there, shoo shoo!
Only people who still link these protocols to legalities, are hired employees doing their work. These "p2p is it legal or not" inserts won't fly anymore, you hear me? So f#%/&ff!
We're talking about information exchange here, NOT LAW! If you or anyone still like to insist on Technology doesn't break the law, people do then go save lives and harass NRA instead and demand strict control over that "technology".
Yes, from the point of view of a distant observer, somebody falling into a black hole takes an infinite amount of time to do it.
Does that mean we won't see any matter from accretion discs or anything fall into BH because it takes infinite amount of time? Or, if we'll see some object actually vanish into BH, that object must be infinitely old?
how come both and all observers won't see the same effects? if that train zips past me, won't it seem to the passenger like i'm zipping past them in the opposite direction? so both are moving at the speed of light, no?
True, but what is stopping them from putting that clause into the for-pay license too?
What is then stopping us from reconsidering the situtation and make choices if they change it so? Let's worry about that when and if it happens, I believe we all have better things to do than nitpicking on worthless EULAs.
So the effect of your not signing the contract is probably zero.Is that what you're saying? Or that only this kind of contracts are worthless? I think this idea wouldn't get very wide acceptance..
Oh, you mean in the US then yes, paid judges can decide whichever way they want nowadays so who cares about contracts, it's all about money!
Theres always some people thinking that when their ideas won't work it's not their fault but someone other's. Here we got this anti-anti-spam clown telling us that WWW is not free and therfore we MUST use it like he and other simpletons thought it should be used. In essence he's telling us stop using Lynx and always wait before we click links to go further because of still-loading ads. We got to view them, no matter what.
Their technology sucks but it's our fault ads won't show everywhere. Internet isn't perfect but it's our fault because we won't pretend it to be perfect.
I want better pictures but can't do much more from here than give some advices:
one has to use passive and remote controlled methods to detect these "top secret" planes and about only thing that I can come up with is a camera with high resolution and brightness. camoflage it well and use hard-to-detect means for data transfer like lasers or directional antennas which don't leak to other directions.
humans and all activity are easily detected with IR and other ways and military are likely to avoid testing in such areas where they believe they might get sighted.
just remember that you're paying the taxes they use so is it too much asked to take a peek what they're doing? (...and tell all about it in internet, haha!) oh, and do release your info so that it can't be taken off the net (p2p, freenet,...)
Did you forget dependencies? With Linux, it now shows what is installed besides the one you wanted but everything gets simplified so it may be soon that eg. Mandrake won't tell about dependencies.
Ok ok, MSN Messenger doesn't sound like it's much needed by other programs nor users.
One could use that line to make up an excuse for almost any change in widely used procedures. You may say it's not an excuse but think before you say it. How many stupid decisions and overly strict, intrusive security policies are made up based on that particular excuse?
if your encoder has option to lower it's priority to idle level (like screensavers are) then it wouldn't noticeably affect quake2.
