  2. Re:No question at all. on Joel and Original Cast of MST3K Riding the Cinematic Titanic · · Score: 1

I never "hated" Mike like some did, because he just filled a role. But I think we can almost all agree that Joel made the show (literally and figuratively), a fact supported by its demise once he left.

    Its demise 5 years later?

Watch the early episodes (especially KTMA and 1st season) then watch the later episodes. Notice how much funnier the later episodes are (3rd season to 7th season especially). The evolution of the comments from offhand remarks and reactions to well-executed riffs is all due to Mike. Mike was the head writer of the show during its entire run (except KTMA) and the show would not have been successful without him.

This is not to dimish Joel's role, as he created the show's distinctive look and the venue for better comedians like Mike to prosper.

  3. Re:You do know how bad that'd be right? on Led Zeppelin Agrees To Digital Distribution · · Score: 1

Why has there not been a valid 'superband' rock band of the likes of Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who (to name a few) to have taken their place LONG ago?

It's simple, audience fragmentation. There used to be 3 TV channels, now there's 300+. It's the same with bands. There are more genres than ever and everyone seems to be into their own little niche of music (underground hip hop, surf music, psychobilly etc). Few acts have the universal appeal that the Beatles did, and it's harder than ever for them to find an audience.

The Civil War was about State Rights, not slavery.

Might want to re-read the Confederate Constitution. If you mean states' rights to maintain chattel slavery, then yes, it was about states' rights. You're also mistaken if you think that the United States would be anywhere near the power it is today without a strong federal government.

Bill Clinton was impeached for perjury on oath to a Grand Jury, not a blow job witch hunt.

Why was he on the stand in the first place? The Whitewater "scandal" which never produced anything of consequence except this infidelity charge. It was a spiteful and desperate attempt by the Republican congress to dig up dirt on Clinton. And yes, there was a little dirt, but it was quite mild compared to Bush's insider trading at Harkin. And we won't even get to the cesspool of corruption the man has allowed or perpetrated whilst in office.

Yes, people voted with their wallets and had a choice, they stopped buying the ones that did not have real players.

No, EA paid the NFL a huge amount of money to become the sole video game licensee. There was no choice on the part of the consumer, just a desire from the NFL to make the most money now, and from EA to prevent 2K Sports' superior NFL2K series from driving the price of the games down (since their game was only $20 compared to Madden's $50).

Corporations make deals like that to restrict consumer choice all the time. Don't be so naive as to think it's the consumers who are making these sorts of deals.
