The $200+ cost mentioned is only for parts and assembly. You aren't allowing a penny for research, development, design, advertising, distribution, support, updates and services accompanying the device. Nobody is claiming this is "the best capitalism can do", but to continue talking about 3x markup as if there are no costs beyond BOM + assembly is not realistic.

There is no 200% profit for any smart phone maker, there is more to business than just the BOM and assembly costs (as pointed out in the post you are responding to). If you think Apple, Samsung and HTC smart phones (the ones mentioned in the post you are responding to) are all junk, then tell us which smart phone you think is superior.

If you really want to pursue this comparison, then Apple did not bring back the Google powered map app but promised to improve the replacement, just as Microsoft won't bring back the Start button or offer a boot to desktop option but promises to improve the replacement. Maybe the eventual improvements will be good enough, maybe they won't.
I think older versions of Adobe (or the last non subscription version of Adobe) will be picked first.
The same goes for Microsoft's Office subscription. I paid $100 for unlimited 3 PC on the office last version. Now they want $100/year. Sales will hit a brick wall once the switch to rental only is complete. I can already sense the hand wringing at Adobe: what went wrong? durr....
