... and to everyone who is always talking about it i just say.. bah.. IT'S NOT THE DAMN LOOK IT MATTERS... It's the damn consistent API..
Any linux programmer just keeps asking the same thing to itself..
"Will i use GNOME/GTK? Will i use QT/KDE? What will prevail?"
I'm sick of having to recompile piles of diferent libs because aplication "A" uses QT 3.xx and then it's new version already uses QT 4.xx that completely deprecates it's previous version API..
Damnit.. there are 5 year old aplications that still run in new windows versions.. talking about compatibility.. (and don't talk to me about dos because i can still run many dos games in my winXP box.. )
Linux doesn't need a consistent look.. linux needs a stable and unified framework.. I know that this might lead to stupid "wars" between gnome and kde groupies.. but for linux to advance we have to choose.. advanced studies must be made to know wich one of the API is really the more stable, faster and 100% free (hi there QT !!), and not things like "Kde/Gnome is better because it is... bla bla bla". 100% efforts should be directed towards a unique API!!!
yes.. and the engine in Red Faction was really great.. I had lot's of fun not only playing the actual game (though i think the game flow was not one of the best) , but in the bonus glass house level (the glass breaking was awesome)... trying to make holes in the walls.. and making paths in them till i reached the ceiling.. this was actually possible with missiles..;)
.. on the gaming experience.. though the graphics are also a blast.. the shooting in doom3 didn't seem right to me..
To be a little picky it seemed that the shooting impact in the monsters was not realistic.. shooting at walls too.. by now they should have a 3d engine with deformations.. like holes in walls (real holes not textures).. the body of monsters being ripped by bullet impact, and with no predefined zones (à lá Hanna Barbera cartoons), monsters falling and sliding back due to impact, breaking obvious breakable material like light bulbs and glass (i hate when shooting at bulbs and they won't break)..
You are kidding right? You must be the only one who liked that crap !! That movie was a major flop on Lucas carreer.. and no one make sequels from flops..
Why not join forces with the gstreamer team? I think gstreamer is the way to go for the multimedia in linux, that one is really a multimedia framework, not that i don't like mplayer as a stand alone player.. but it's not that scalable as gstreamer
Playstation 3 adapted to augmented reality.. imagine playing in real enviroments with virtual photorealistic monsters (i've already seen this done with doom.. but check ou the weight of the computer hanging on the players back, not to talk about the graphics quality). By then PS3 would have the power to do this with less weight.. combined with bluetooth (multiplayer).... droooolll..;D.. that's the way to go for future gaming...
I made a xml parser in half of dozen lines in a functional language (haskell, was not hard..But nowadays there's no need for a programmer to build it's own parser? Why reinvent the wheel if there're already good library to parse the thing.. Gnome has it.. Java has it.. Why waste your time doing another parser?
I got the original matrix DVD and the bonus DVD (that came a while after) i've been checking what would come in the Special Edition.. and it's exacly the same thing i have in this 2 DVDs.. and i bought this 2 as a pack for the price of one!!
This might be offtopic.. but wouldn't be an improvement to the slashcode if the links could be redirected (wrapped) to a system that could queue the requests (there could be a max limit depending on the remote server's capacity) to the actual link.. this way remote servers wouldn't "die" like this..
Are't games ment to end sometime? Why do they have to be infinite.. those would stop being games, and somewhat a kind of routines.. When we start a game, our main objective is to achive that final goal, so we can fill our brains with satisfaction (Dopamine), so there must be an end.. It's like sex... there's an objective in the end.. and you try hard to achieve that objective.. and like in games the harder it gets to be in it.. the more pleasure one takes from it in the end (well, if it's gets that hard we might aswell choose another "easier" game). Now imagine infinite sex.. that wouldn't make any sense (even tantric sex ends at some point, it only takes a bit longer)
.. that's great.. i cant wait to buy my HDTV >:) to view those beautifull images;)
Everyone is talking about the size of the disk.. but common.. 350K, even with MPEG4 the image quality would suck... even at 500K.. what image resolution are we talking about? My Digital camera captures a 7xx*5xx (the xxs are i forgot, whatever.., i think this is pal.. but not sure), and i already complain about it's image quality
Another thing.. using tape.. that would be rather dificult for one to seek that tape.. keyframes in mpeg4 are more far apart than in mpeg2 so, the cam had to rewind to fetch the keyframe and then had to play till it's original position again to reconstruct the frame flawlessly, this process is very slow, on disk this is done almost imediately, but disk can be damaged... Why not use FLASH
He's not complaining, he's just assuming the role of a common user that is not used to linux.. and he does that perfectly... Sometimes, things to evolve need to get some bad feedback.. I agree with him 100%
This is an eye opener to the Linux comunity...As a matter of fact, i'm running Redhat 7.1 (at work) and i have mplayer running flawlessly in it.. even with GUI (the latest RC3 release).. but
the point is that Linux doesn't need another MEDIA PLAYER.. it's just not scalable.. Linux needs a MULTIMEDIA FRAMEWORK upon any multimedia application could stand on (media player, video encoders, audio encoders, etc..)
I don't know why.. but after reading this i felt much better.. like, i thought i didn't have a social life.. and now, i look at all these people... Is this turning into a decease or what? hundreds of hours of gaming.. is this sane?
I thought that the segway was ment to be always stable???
Does it weight 350g?
Yeah .. me too ? what's up with this?

.. like .. a digital Mark Hammil ?
.. This crap started with Vanilla Ice ..
Vanilla: "My sample is completely diferent..." (refering to the music Under Pressure with Bowie and Freddy Mercury)
yeah yeah, sure it is.. !!
...I'm sure that will work fine in my s3 trio .. ;) ...!!
for heaven sakes have pity on me instead

GTK has bindings for C++ (GTK++) and a lot other languages (Python,JAVA,TCL,EIFFEL) ;)
Am i the only one who notices that the new model is ugly?
... why don't they use the Voight-Kampf test to tell them apart?
The first time i looked at one of those things i thought there would be a couple of hamsters inside to power-up the chip ;).. .
