Hey, let's be serious. "Destroy human civilization"?
Short of war, which I admit is a possibility, that isn't really an option. Oh, a collapsing america would hit the rest of the world hard; no doubt. But we'd recover.
Would you? Well, your goodwill is at an all-time low; I wouldn't rely on much in the way of external support, if I were you.
Of course, until synthetic diamond had fewer flaws than natural ones (a relatively recent thing), they priced them based on fewer flaws = higher price.
Then, suddenly, if there are too few flaws it's suddenly worthless. I understand why they say that (greed), but it's still crazy.
My point was that morality is subjective. There simply is no objective standard to measure against, and we need to accept that - quickly, because this also means that any AIs we make will have only the morality we explicitly program into them.
Of course, I'm not saying that this means you can't act against someone else breaching your morality. Of course you can; it's physically possible. As to whether it's ethical or not.. well, you'll have to be the judge of that. Me, I'd say it is so long as the reason for your action agrees with my own morality. So would most other people, though some would pretend that's not their reason.
If a phone shows up, chances are it's an iPhone, and often labelled as such. Given that anime is otherwise often home to such labels as Carbucks and McGonads (it's in english, therefore it's cool, never mind what it means), them being labelled correctly pretty much means Apple is paying for it.
So. Advertisement, and lots of it. Anyone closer to the country able to verify this?
In this situation I'd waive my right to a jury, in a heartbeat.
If you are innocent, a judge is less likely to be swayed by emotions and more likely to consider the evidence. If you are guilty, you might want a jury.
It's not ideal, but the jury system has been broken for decades.
Fair's fair. You can use coal, assuming you require the same stringent anti-pollution measures for coal plants as for nuclear plants.
So, either coal plants will be green (never happen), or nuclear plants will be allowed to release as much radiation as coal plants do (on average), which will drastically reduce the costs.
The amount of fissile material is, effectively, not finite.
Using breeder reactors or other technology that allows us to use most of the energy available would increase efficiency twenty-fold, and extracting uranium from seawater only about triples the raw material cost - not fuel cost, that would include processing - with today's technology.
Additionally, each year enough uranium is washed into the sea to power our entire civilization for several years, assuming reasonably efficient reactors.
But even using currently deployed, inefficient technology, there is at least enough uranium for several centuries. Why would we not use it?
While there is no indication that they have actually done this, and though the risk isn't as great as you suggest, there is one way to make it zero - build the relevant genes into D. Radiodurans instead of whatever bacteria they're using now.
Radiodurans can take it. It's got ECC. No, really.
Um, that's the core of the scientology "religion". You should know this.
And yes, it is indeed the fevered mumblings of a burnt-out science fiction author who has indulged in too much alcohol and too many prescription painkillers.
But.. if you're right, then that would imply that there are a zillion different "clones" of myself running around in different "branches" of the universe.
I don't want to believe that, so I'm going to invent a spontaneous collapse of the wavefunction that prevents it. Maybe caused by humans observing it.. yeah, that's the ticket.
Statistics do not work like that. I'm pretty sure it's close to a Poisson distribution, and distributing poison means it's *more* likely to be close in time.
By european standards, "a large linebacker" is fat.
So yeah.

Don't buy into it, folks. :P

Or you could read up about how brains work, and note that it's wrong because human brains (at least locally) are programmed to believe it's wrong.
That doesn't provide much of a reason for the brain to believe it, but I'm fine with that - I'm the program.
That might be later, or never. The heat death will pretty definitely happen, so it fits the definition of "limited" better.
..in anime, manga and other media.

We need a "+1, Funny" meta-moderation choice.
Yes.

Out of curiosity, how badly does this wreck battery life?
Or is speedstep still accessible for linux?
*whoosh*

We'll see what's cheaper then. ;)

As studies show (and yes, I've read the studies; they make sense), it does.
So, what did you do?
My response would be "stop, by any means necessary, then call for assistance".
One for me, one for each of my nieces. Hopefully they'll arrive by christmas.
At this price, you can afford to buy them even if they might end up going unused. Why not test it out? You might like it.

*Whoosh*
I know of one.
And no, I'm not telling you. I don't think the patent holder has noticed, and it expires in two years; there's no need to tempt fate.
Dwarf Fortress. ..hang on, am I only mentioning homebrew here?
Achron.
Blueberry Garden.

The correct name is "AR sunglasses".
