If they open the API, then there will be endless possibilities.

And for your CueCat haters, it didn't work because 1. It wasn't mobile, 2. Hardly anyone supported it and 3. They didn't want anyone using it for what it wasn't "officially" designated. Solve these problems on MS Tag and you'll have an awesome service.

  13. Man will never fly. on Space Elevator An Impossible Dream? · · Score: 1

"Three hundred years ago, the dreams of a flying machine finally seemed to be coming true after a successful test. An article in Nature, however, suggests that there's reason to be pessimistic. Ever since Bernoulli's principle was discovered, many have been hoping that this discovery would turn the dream into reality. Pugno, however, argues that inevitable lack of pure steel means that such a machine simply wouldn't be strong enough. Even if flawless steel could be made for the flying machine, damage from wind and even erosion by sand would render it's wings weak. It would seem that sci-fi will never be anything other than what it is: a fiction."

Hopefully we'll have sufficient liberal backlash

You have your terms way out of whack. "Liberals" want to further change in laws and societal norms. "Conservatives" want to keep things as they are. Suddenly instituting automated survellience over the nation is not "conservative," it is radical*.

Don't get caught into the "US VS THEM" mindset! It has only brought us to where we are now.

Ok, so there are 300 million middle-class Indians. That means there are about 700 million lower-class and poor Indians who will work for pennies on every US dollar Americans will work for. That means "American" goods manufacture will be outsourced to India. Then the only money coming into America is through the corporations who own the means of manufacturing abroad and their mighty investors.

Face it, if you hold a blue-collar manufacturing job in the US, you'd better get some more skills or you're fucked.

I completely agree. The trend toward sheltering our children is causing way more harm then good. Don't believe me? Google search for "boomerang generation." We're creating a generation of kids unable to cope with the realities of life and therefore decided to never grow up/leave the house. Just ask my puritanical 27-year-old sister who has yet to get a full-time job and leave the nest.

I'm not saying smoke crack around your kid and beat him regularly. The key is finding a balance between care and dissappointment. And, Christ, say "No" once in awhile. There'd be a lot fewer problems in the world otherwise.

Get over it people. Google is not going to alienate a nation of 1+ billion potential customers in the name of free speech. Just wait until China decides to de-link its currency from the dollar and strikes out on their own. You'll see a hell of a lot of companies (and governments!) going back on their word to please the powerhouse that is China.
