Considering that I run (and have been running it) under Solaris, I dunno about that one. Microsoft makes ISA for the Windows shops to have their firewalls.
Checkpoint FW-1 is definitely *not* the SOHO brand of firewall. Rarely do I see Solaris installs now, but more Windows, and I think that they've ditched support for Linux altogether.
Just like Webtrends. Very poor Linux support these days. *sigh*
I dunno, but I've been seeing a *lot* more "How do I do $this in PHP/Mysql on Windows Server 2003..." posts and "I'm running $expensive_firewall on Windows..."
More mailing lists (Checkpoint FW-1) and stuff (Squirrelmail too) are getting more posts about Windows. Even the simply trouble ticket system I've used (osticket) now has tons of Windows questions posted in the forums.
Is it just the competency of the admins? Quite possible, but if one was going to take a Google around the web, they might be inclined to think that Windows was the OS to throw weight behind in the server market.
Just a thought. Maybe a poor one, but it's definitely something to notice.
That's why we won't see "WKRP in Cincinnatti" on DVD anytime soon.. too much red tape and prohibitive costs in licensing the music.
The show aired *years* ago, but royalties and licensing fees still have to be paid just to put the show on DVD.
There was an article about this on Salon (I think) recently. So, that's one good reason why DVDs are still kinda costly.. they're paying the goddamn RIAA their extortion fees. Ugh.
Ever have to deal with a bloated and corrupted.pst file?
No fun.
Users that like to keep everything on the planet should probably think twice about trusting it all to Microsoft Outlook (or any local POP email client, for that matter)

I'm telling you, the almighty one himself has made his database choice, and it ain't MySQL!
Well, yeah.:) The actual planning didn't take a whole long time either. I think that a lot of people have wedding issues when they go for overblown expensive weddings and have family members stepping in to "help plan the wedding." A co-worker of my ex actually *quit her job* to 'plan her wedding.' Yes, she quit a full time job to sit at home and go through wedding planning stuff.. for a wedding that was a year off.
... except that we got the site for $250. The site we chose was the Borges Ranch, owned by the City of Walnut Creek. It's quiet, has lots of space, and is up in the hills. Nice & quiet. I was about to blow about $500 on the catered BBQ, though..;)
Photos? A photographer cousin volunteered. We weren't going to do a DJ, just iTunes & an mp3 collection. Hey, we were kinda broke at the time..;)
(sidenote: Girl & I didn't get married, but are now just good friends.)
The *new* girlfriend might be a bit more expensive to marry. Guess I'll find out one day.;)
I absolutely HATED "Napoleon Dynamite." I laughed ONCE during the entire movie. Yet, the reviews were raving about it. Then we had the recent article about the guy that's spent like 20 years studying Douglas Adams and his books/etc, and he hated the movie. Other reviews of this movie said it was clever & funny. Now the BBC says that there were just a few chuckles.
Generally, I think that humour is in the eye of the beholder. I never think that Penny Arcade comics are funny, but often still laugh at User Friendly.
Bottom line: The movie probably doesn't suck that bad at all, but the "The book was better" fanatics are going to jump all over it.
It's annoying as hell, because it tries to auto-fill your searches. It does it at the worst times, too. I was sitting down with my g/f and was Googling for something and it was happily showing a list of things that I had searched for, giving away the fact that I was looking for restaurants to visit.
I'm just glad I wasn't Googling for "itch on my nads" or anything like that. Sheesh.
Tell that to the droves of people that shop at Wal-Mart. Some of the stuff sold there (specifically in the electronics department) is absolute trash, but people buy it anyway because it's cheap.
that seems to be all anyone cares about - cheap. *sigh*
They're lying, too. LiveJournal can (and has) turned over lots of information when hit with a subpoena. Look up some of the people who have made LJ posts only to get a visit from the FBI shortly after.
If your hard drive or the data survives the lava, let 'em have it, because whoever goes diving into lava to get a hard drive obviously *really* wants to get the data.:)
Howard Stern is just another feature that sirius will have. If uncensored Stern is what makes people decide to go to Sirius, great. They also get all of the music too.:)
Sirius already has some good stuff besides Stern.. Radio Bam is kind of funny and Lance Armstrong has a show that he does out of his house too. One of the alt rock stations has frequent band interviews that are usually pretty good too.
I've had Sirius for a while now and have been really happy with it. Having Howard Stern will just be icing on the cake.:)
Dish Network's America's Top 120 - $37.99 - you get TONS of channels and all of the Sirius channels. It's a great deal. I miss my dish (new apartment looks right into a big line of redwood trees.. can't put up the dish)
DirecTV doesn't have Sirius, but I think they still have some canned music channels..

Like $21.65 each.
CD prices haven't gone down at all, and the music industry is back to claiming piracy & lost sales and suing customers.
The price fixing lawsuit that they were slapped around with didn't phase them one bit.
Ever have to deal with a bloated and corrupted .pst file?

I avoided that level of insanity.
Just for the record, I can only find 1 on eBay - that one. That one has also been taken apart and each page is in a binder sleeve.

Hrm, possibly. I was born in 1975. ;)
:D
Then again, it was set in Idaho.. and from what I've seen, they're STILL in the 1980s.

I was using Safari Enhancer to disable all caching, but it doesn't work with 1.3. Otherwise, yes, I do disable "Other Forms" in the Preferences.

RSS feeds as a screen saver. It's actually pretty cool. :)
And after seeing both acts live, I think that Marillion is a far better live act.
NIN started boring me years ago.
Hrm, I read your article, and sadly, the links are either to deleted journals/posts or 403 Forbidden. :(

Many of the beige G3s shipped with Firewire. They're no longer supported. You probably mean to say "shipped with built-in Firewire"

Heck, we're sending so much R&D that way anyway, it was just a matter of time before this happened.
PHBs on the quest for low low prices will love this, too. They'll save the company money and come out with a huge bonus.
