Wow......you just convinced me to stop killing every person i come across. I've been reformed. And i owe it all to slashdot. My co-worker will actually live long enough for us to get to know one another. Thank goodness i saw the light before being senselessly murdered by the police......i'm going to go home now...but wait, how will the police know i've reformed?
...I dont use my pc for movies (ok some porn), or music, etc. I surf the web play games... I must be in the minority. Then again i'm an old man (36) so i should probably be put out to pasture. As the RIAA, et. al. probably consider me a non-entity.
You sure about that? That doesn't sound right to me. Granted if i murdered someone I would certainly want to cover it up. But the fact that it hasn't been discovered yet doesn't mean its not evidence.
Using your analogy of "flushing drugs". If they can prove that you flushed some drugs you did have, then they have you for "possession" and "destruction of evidence" (or is it tampering). Not only were you in possession of an illegal substance, but you attempted to thwart the police in their ability to bring you to justice.
While i see your point. I would love to hear someone with a legal background respond to your supposition. I think its silly to think that someone who has committed a crime isn't going to try to hide proof of that crime. I'd also like to hear someone define when evidence becomes evidence.
We have 20+ office around the world. We are a dedicated windows shop. We have no intention what so ever of considering linux. A few of us do use Linux to help us do our windows jobs (lol). Our network security guy uses nagios to monitor a number of things. I use it to get alert emails for certain things. I hate to say it but Windows is the defacto standard in large corps. And its much easier to "go with the flow"...
Robot theft up 10-fold. Robot theft in the moderately sized midwestern town of East BumFrell has increated to near epidemic proportions. "I just let RX-238 out to mow the lawn", says one irtate owner...
One of the great things about linux, is it lets you learn for very little cost. Be it programming, database design, web page design, etc. Of course folks will buy a $100 PC, and still pirate... And some of us will buy the $100 PC just to run linux on...
Yep, why do you think lawy...er...sharks have remained essentially unchanged for millions of years. WE are their food. And did i mention they dont get cancer? Lawy...er..sharks are lucky.
some time of innocuous tracking device affixed to the painting? RFID maybe? some type of monitoring system that ensures that the paintings stay in certain locations.......yeah i know it sounds stupid...
...I wound up scavenging some old laptop 2.5" drives from the job. They were being thrown away, so i grabbed em and bought some enclosures. I have a couple of 12G and a few 5G models. they are small, and come in handy even if the capacity is small by todays standards. I had a consultant tell me he bought a 60G laptop sized drive and stuck in an enclosure.
While others have said what i'm going to say and my posting will amount to little more than a drop of water in a river...
Cheering on the writer of this virus just makes us all look bad. And gives SCO ammunition (whether real or imagined) to press its case.
This is very bad timing considering SCO's lobbying of Congress. All we need is for Congress to have this virus and SCO's inflamatory words in mind at the same time, to cause the Open Source movement headaches.
I hope someone catches the childish bastard(s) that wrote this virus. Never mind SCO's childish antics. It doesn't help that someone stooped to their level (or lower).
...ever want VOD as opposed to my DVD collection? While VOD would be interesting its not that much different from pay-per-view now. I dont use PPV, not because i cant find anything i want to watch, but because i dont like to use PPV. I'm paying enough for cable as it is.
[OK ok...so my girlfriend pays the cable bills]

Linus on DRM

But you dont need a "serious" GUI to violate DRM. All you need is one guy willing to put the time into, say, crafting a DVD duplicator, or one more MP3 or Ogg ripping program.
I think its squarely aimed at Linux since Linux is such a verstile tool. When the "wrong" (wrong being a matter of opinion) types get ahold o Linux and use it for the wrong things....well....need i say more?
Actually, with the money MS now contributes in the political arena, government is MS's "true last resort". If we cant win legally, we'll legislate it out of the way...
I dont think GM is bad. But, there are some questions that would need to be answered.
Will it be freely available to all? I think this is the biggest issue right here. Might as well "uplift" (sorry Mr. Brin) society as a whole, not just those that can afford to pay for it. Otherwise you have a "norm" underclass which, well, wouldn't be a good thing.
Well, not being very legally knowledgeable I would ask, how would your company be violating someone elses intellectual property by simply using the software?
Thinking somewhat logically (i know logic doesn't always apply in law suits) it would be the coders/developers of the product (linux) that would (should) be the targets of any law suits of that nature.
However, most lawsuits seek to recover perceived monetary losses or to blatantly put a company out of business (not PC i know). Linux on the other hand with its open sourceness (you like that dont ya) would seem to be kind of beyond that. There is no "company/business" to bring a suit against. I dont see how a third party could be help accountable just for using a product that there is no law against using.
Once again, this is just my own stream of consciousness opinion here. But i felt compelled to respond. Theres alot I dont know so flamers be gentle.
ROFL....let me guess you are an exchange admin like myself. BROTHER!!!!
Try adding a document management add-in for outlook and see how well your exchange performance takes a hit just because its not well behaved.
I miss my recovery server. Though i think i'll be building a new one soon.

Thats the problem. Criminals never have a problem one way or the other with gun control laws. They get em and use em.

UH...Where was this? And do they still need photographers?!?!?!?!?

Well I wonder what the "soon to be MS employees" at Intertrust are doing right now...
Need i say more? Thats right, scare em into paying. The money is still green right?
...the folks that claimed they weren't out to hurt the Linux community? Doesn't seems like it to me.
