I use the Lumia 950 and while it's not a laptop replacement by any means, or even a great phone *cough* battery life *cough* I reckon it's about 1 generation away from being a viable dock-and-work device for your usual business man type job. What it isn't any good for is all the optional extras you get from a laptop or tablet.
I think the biggest problem with windows mobile devices at the moment is how frustratingly near to being usable they are in so many respects. But the evolution of the surface line gives me hope, if the app developers can be convinced to play.
Find me a single example of a God who does not act within or on his creation post act of creation and I'll agree with you, otherwise I stand by my definition.
Also, there is no such thing as "Western ideas of science", just Science. An experiment either follows the scientific method or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it's not science.
Microsoft is getting all the niggles out of a universal OS across tablets, PC's, Consoles and phones right now. Sure the phones are taking the hit at the moment and the rest of the business is taking up the slack. But, they are gambling on getting everything integrated, usable and ubiquitous before everyone else as a result.
Will it work... Dunno. But it's not a stupid strategy so long as most employers still use windows machines by the time they get it right.
"God" implies a level of emotional investment in the lives, desires and actions of the simulated greater than or at least equal to the investment in the simulation and it's experimental purpose. It implies action and intervention. For the purposes of this discussion, "god" would essentially be shorthand for "poor quality scientist corrupting the data of his/her/it's experiment".
Sorry, schadenfreude moment.
Phew, that was close. Thanks for making living in Britain very, very, very, slightly better than living in America. We really needed the self esteem boost after the Brexit fiasco.
Good luck guys.
We all hope America doesn't collapse horribly and that he turns out to be sane and/or controllable, but we have bought popcorn. Just in case.
Chinese science runs the gamut from "top notch and comparable to the West" all the way down to "my bottle of mystery formula will cure all cancer give me money now".
So, it runs Exactly the Same Gamut as the west then. Only we call our Mystery Formula "Homeopathy", and get insurance to pay for it.
I remind you that Trump actually lost the popular vote, against what I will happily agree was the worst possible candidate the Liberals could have put up. He actually garnered less votes than McCain or Romney. Look at the numbers. Both candidates were proven liars, accused criminals and generally awful. A more accurate assessment would be that liberals, as it turns out, are less willing to turn up and vote for a candidate they know to be terrible than conservatives.
You justify your absurd Price Hiking of critical medications on the grounds that it is the Government and the Insurance companies that pay those hikes, not the consumer.
However this argument is ultimately a semantic one:
Gouging the Insurers, especially medical insurers, is what has led to a health insurance crisis in the first place. All insurance cost is, sooner or later, passed on to the consumer in premium, no sane, solvent insurer sells insurance (over the long term) for less money than they make in premium they take in, and profit on how they invest it. So when you gouge insurers, best case scenario is that you are hiking insurance prices to all consumers.
When you gouge the government, that means you are gouging the tax payer, you are leaching tax money that could ultimately be spent on other programmes.
I recognise your stated desire to invest this money in R&D. Laudable in theory, but in practice, what you are actually saying is, you want to do R&D, but you aren’t good enough, or promising enough, to get grants or investment, so instead you are going to gouge taxpayers and anyone who purchases medical insurance on essential drugs in the hopes of raising enough money to fund Research that no experts, investment firms or governments have seen anything promising in.
Now independent research is fine and well and good, and governments and investors can be short-sighted, or outright contradictory in their desires and goals. But if you aren’t good enough to interest anyone at all in funding this research, or confident enough to put your own money into it, then why should people not be angry at what amounts to, at the least; profiteering?
We should totally bring them back. And not just for the inevitable Lulz that would come from the poorly informed religious crazies doing their nuts.
We could learn staggering amounts about life itself, not to mention the evolutionary process by studying them. I know they wouldn't be perfect replicas, coded instincts may be lost etc, but the sheer volume and quality of data we would generate in even trying would be incredibly beneficial. Not to mention that a properly funded program would be the biotech equivalent of the Apollo missions in terms of advancement, new tech and economic benefit.
I find flaw in your logic. It assumes that the only thing that matters is the technological and intellectual disparity between us and them. We as a species have learned a lot over our relatively short rise and behave much better now than we did, say a hundred years ago. What's to say they will not have actually learned anything or grown beyond their imperialist phase by the time they are so advanced?
(assuming that it is, in fact, aliens. Which it probably is not)
Seriously? You think you can defend yourselves from your government if they wanted to get you? Do you know how big and well funded your military is? not even factoring in law enforcement. You think you have a measurably better chance with assault rifles and handguns over single shot rifles? Hell, your chances would be statistically similar if you only had muskets and sabers.
"That all being said, "mass shootings" are terribly rare"
Sorry What? Rare? They are near Daily! Rare compared to what country exactly?
http://www.theguardian.com/us-...
Because in Britain and Australia, where they got rid of the guns. Mass Shootings = Zero.
I think they'll roll out 2-3 a year to keep interest up. There is actually an interesting model for this type of work submission in the non marvel/DC comic book publishers, some do annual "talent competitions" for direct submissions for writers/artists and publish a handful of the best every year, several of which have got a career.
They will Absolutely make something from this and give all credits and plaudits to that writer. My God! The PR boost and free media from all the articles and the talking heads on the "new Paradigm in film making post Amazon/Netflix" alone will make them staggering sums of money.

I'd only be worried if they were spouting this sort of thing AFTER their lessons.
You pay taxes? Seriously? What kind of republican are you?

Can we design an experiment to rule it out, or at least point us one way or the other? More pertinent, what could we potentially learn just by trying?
Well. That would be the closest to a realistic explanation I've got as to why mine is so damn slow and buggy!

Negligible on a mammal of human size/surface area.

It might help undo our own catastrophically stupid, anti-status quo protest vote and prevent Scotland leaving/replace Scotland when they leave.
yes, some states will become less important to the election, but every CITIZEN will become equally important. That's true democracy.

Not, one assumes, active accounts.

Hard to see, the dark side is. but Once you start down the dark research path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

Seems to me the "If you do post content or submit material" means that you are wrong.

You think doctors don't agree and aren't pushing for this?
