I checked to see who submitted and it wasn't Roland. I would think that this being Slashdot he would have set up a dead-man-switch to make that submission himself.
But wait - if people use it to create levels, that means that EVERYONE has to have the resources in it in order to play those levels.
Actually you only need the addon content to create the levels. Users can play the level and use the content, they just can't save it for their own use.
I've seen a lot of "shooting stars" in my time, but they don't compare at all to seeing a meteor fireball like this. I managed to see two in a one month period back in 2001, when leaving the office at 330-430 at night. (London, Ontario, August 20th for the first one)
One was silent, but the other one roared like a jet shortly after it passed. I assumed that the second one was smaller but appeared the same size because it was much closer, hence the sound.
Moments like that make me wish we had the ability to capture our memories digitally for playback.
Hell, I'm not an American and I understand just how corrupted the vision of it has become.
The founders of the constitution would likely urge revolt if they could see the corporate oligarchy that exists today.
And soldiers were just an example. Once the military tests the equipment on foreign nationals the government can evaluate how much they can get away with domestically.
Considering that the US education system is failing, and evangelical religion is on the upswing, just how long do you expect places like Silicon Valley to thrive?
The smart kids of the next generation are going to get the fuck out of Dodge.
It's not that hard to get soldiers to turn on their own populace. Remember Kent State?
The National Guard isn't even full time army, and they've killed unarmed citizens.
You don't even need to dehumanize the enemy. You simply have to remove the responsibility of the individual and you'll find enough soldiers willing to put bullets in whomever you choose.
Did your friend go to the credit card company after not getting anywhere with Steam? Sometimes they can be quite helpful in nudging the vendor, or just yanking the money back out of the vendor's accounts.
But then you get into resellers selling hosting as unlimited (which is quite common these days) when it's just a virtual server with no such lack of restrictions. And there's thousands of these guys out there now. Fly by nighters that disappear after they take in a few bucks and hit their limits.
I used to love playing Guitar Hero 1. 2 was okay, and the boss fights in 3 annoyed me.
Then my roommate got Rock Band. The guitar has a nicer feel, and it seems easier to read at speed.
BUT! The Rock Band song selection just sucks for me. Even most of the DLC is crap. Sure I used to listen to Judas Priest as a kid, but it's like everything that I listened to between 15 and 30 doesn't exist in the Rock Band world.
I understand though. Rock Band is about mainstream.
If the new Guitar Hero controllers are high quality stuff, I think they may see my dollars again yet:)
All songs have copyright by their very nature as creations that can be copied. You can create a very liberal license (make them freely copyable, in fact) but they still have copyright.
I've got a headset and it doesn't see any use on PSN at all any more. When I first got on PSN it was pretty good. After Xbox Live it was a breath of fresh air.
But then it started to get tainted too, and now when I log into an online game the first thing I usually hear from the voice comm is "Turn on your headsets faggots."
Yeah, I really wanna chat with that guy.
And on the plus side, on the rare occasion that I do let slip with expletives in a game that's got kids playing, they don't hear me.:)
It's gotta be 8 to 10 years ago, but does anyone else remember the plans for Janes World at War? Tying in 688 Attack Sub, Longbow, Abrams, and other titles so that you could go online in a world theatre and use the sim that you bought to play that role.
I was so pumped for it and then it just seemed to fizzle and die before it got out of the concept/PR stage.
I don't know if I'd have the patience to be a sub driver these days, but back then the thought of jumping in game and altering the outcome of the war with my own nuclear sub was pretty darn appealing:)
I'm 36, but I'm a complete noob when it comes to programming.
I did some messing around with Commodore BASIC, RS BASIC, and Pascal as a kid but never became proficient.
So when deciding I wanted to make some of my own web tools in Python and PHP I grabbed a few books and started reading.
The tasks are easy enough to get you started but one thing I've found is they throw terms at you without getting around to explaining them.
I had no real idea of what a Class was, until I found a good definition/explanation in the 3rd or 4th book I checked out. Sure, it might be obvious to most of you, but to a beginner any term that isn't immediately understood is a stumbling block.
So if you're planning on teaching some new concepts in lesson 3, I'd suggest providing a glossary of those terms at the end of lesson 2 for the students to take home and get a head start. Even if they don't fully grasp the concept in time for the next lesson, they'll probably know what questions to ask before you get into the lesson. It should minimize the need to stop and start during the actual instruction period.
I've never found the Onion to be funny. I've known people who couldn't describe stories on there without practically breaking down in tears from laughing so hard. But for me, it's never been more than an "Oh, that's cute" sort of reaction.
"My Ferrari is awesome! And even though the manufacturer replaced the airbag with a huge spike in the center of the steering wheel, I only drive it on Sundays."
Ditto. The only automatic payments that come out of my accounts are the ones made directly to the bank itself. Anything else I manually pay. And why? Because 8 years ago, I signed up for Bell Sympatico DSL. For some reason it wouldn't work at my location and they agreed to take it back. But they continued to bill me the initial set up fee every month for months, taking 142 dollars off my credit card each time. Every time I talked to someone they said it would take 4 to 6 weeks to resolve, and then there was no result. I finally drafted an email saying I was CC:ing this to my (imaginary) lawyer, and we would be suing immediately. Oddly enough, despite their repeated claims that credit card refunds would take weeks, I got an email back from them that afternoon apologizing, and the money was back on my card the very next day. (but they didn't pay the interest I lost) I don't trust any company with access to my financials any more.

It would be only fitting.
RIP Roland.

Woosh. That was the sound of the reference going right over your head :P
Lost.
That's what the other spider claims, anyway. In other news, that spider just submitted a replacement for ReiserFS.
You'll know when it eats you.
"You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike...what do you do?"
My answer to that is: Take off all my clothes and start doing jumping jacks while singing Barry Manilow.
If someone else comes along, they're going to take one look at that and run for the exit. All I need to do is follow the scent of fear.
The guilds that live in the "real world"?
Someone tell Morpheus. This guy swallowed the wrong pill.

Because it would interfere with the operations of the CIA?

It's weird how humour can be so subjective.
Maybe the dog is just a good listener.
But will you be able to play Spore again after?
Heh, when I read that I thought of this scenario:
"My Ferrari is awesome! And even though the manufacturer replaced the airbag with a huge spike in the center of the steering wheel, I only drive it on Sundays."
Nope doesn't make any sense there either :P
Absolutely.
I just need your credit card info and that handy little PIN on the back.
30 minute delivery guaranteed!
Would you like to order anything else from our Nigerian menu?
