I'm thinking they'd probably ship the card with a pass-through connector, so you still only need one floppy drive power cable, but the connector splits in into one for the floppy drive and one for the video card.
If they don't though, are you really gonna miss your floppy drive that much? The only system I currently use a floppy on is an old Pentium 75, and that's only when I'm upgrading the OS, cause it won't boot from CD...
I forget which Douglas Adams book that's from... Any Douglas Adams fans around here today to remind me? I'm thinking it mighta been Mostly Harmless, but I'm not sure...
Yahoo has a Linux version of their IM available for download.
There are automatic wallpaper updaters available, I've used them.
Is Comet cursor a browser plugin? If so, then as long as you're not using Lynx as your default browser, there's a good chance you can get a Linux version of the plugin.
Depends what type of game you're playing. I am an indoor "Arena-ball" player, and I've been known to go through 150 paintballs or so in a 5 minute game. And I'm not even one of the trigger-happy guys!
Otherwise though, I think your training concept sounds pretty cool.
I haven't really looked into it, but a good, fully-functional unified IM app would be great. I've currently got Yahoo Messenger installed for my dad, everybuddy for my sister (for MSN support), and ICQ for me. Not to mention GAIM, and probably another one or two that I forgot to deselect when I installed RH7.2, just in case the need arises.
Maybe I'm just picky, but I'd rather install one full-featured suite of "IM Tools" or something similar than have a whole bunch of different IMs at varying degrees of closeness to the latest version kicking around my HD.
I wonder how long till the "IM War" starts up, with all of this integrated support into browsers that's starting to happen...
Which version of Everybuddy were you using? IIRC M$N support is broken in the latest stable release. If that was what you wanted Everybuddy for, try to track down a beta from just before the stable release. It works fairly well and supports MSN, though it's ICQ support is kinda limited. I don't think it supported file transfers, etc.
If you just need simple ICQ support (messaging, not much else) try this. I still prefer licq (preferably 1.0.4, I've had lots of trouble with 1.0.3) for my IM needs.
It's not going to be an overnight change, but think about when cars first came out:
Gas stations aren't a natural occurence that the auto industry just took advantage of. When gasoline powered vehicles became common, a fuel distribution infrastructure had to be set up.
This is the SAME THING. We need an infrastructure set up to distribute hydrogen, just as one was needed for gasoline. If everyone had just said "Gas powered cars are dumb cause there's nowhere to get them filled" then we'd still be taking our horses everywhere.
It will require time & effort, but it is a necessary step, and it's not like we've never done anything like it before.
How much is known about this anomaly? Granted, I know nothing about physics, and not too much more about gravity, but could the principles/physics found at this place not be applied to other things?
IMHO, things like transportation and launching spacecraft would be a lot easier if we were able to distort gravity. Think how much less of a problem SUVs (and even vehicles that people actually need because of the sheer size of them) would be on fuel consumption if they only had to move half the weight of the vehicle!
If this is simply a naturally occurring phenomenon, then with the right conditions, could it be reproduced?
If this is the lasting effect of a large spacecraft (yes I believe in aliens and UFOs) having crashed in that area, then first of all, we could probably stand to learn a thing or two about the technology that is disrupting our gravity, and second of all, that must be on hell of a power source to keep creating an anti-gravity field after such a long time.
Either way, this really reinforces my belief that we should be spending a lot more time exploring and learning more about our own planet before we push too hard to get to other planets.
My girlfriend is actually the one with the "dirty, dirty porn collection". She was mad enough when I hid her cigarettes, I'd hate to think what would happen if I hid her porn:)
But there's a difference between bundling Apache (and giving the user the choice of installing it or not), and integrating your web-browser as a part of the OS.
IANAWU (I Am Not A Windows User), so I may be wrong, but last I remember you couldn't choose NOT to install Internet Explorer.
KDE comes bundled with RedHat, but it doesn't jump onto my HD and make itself the default GUI when I install (which is nice 'cause I like Gnome better anyway:). That's because it's BUNDLED, not INTEGRATED. IE is integrated into the OS, and that is the problem.
I agree with you, but I'm pretty confident that it is 90% propaganda. From everything I have heard/seen about how the press is being used in this conflict, there is nobody actually there, they are just fed whatever the Pentagon tells them, and they report that.
Hey dumbass, the planes were from the states. It is YOUR crappy airport security that allowed these people through. Chances are pretty fucking good that the government of wherever the terrorists came from (if it IS terrorists) has no idea that they were planning to blow up large chunks of the U.S. I agree that this is a horrible thing that has happened, and something must be done to ensure that it doesn't happen again, but ANOTHER WAR IS NOT GOING TO FIX THIS!!!!!! Look at the arms situation. If it was a nuclear capable organization that did this, any attack from the U.S. is going to result in those nukes being used. At which point the trigger happy, arrogant, imperialistic American government, will enter the pissing contest with their nukes, at which point the world will be a smoldering piece of dust in an otherwise uncaring universe.
Start thinking with your brain instead of that mullet haircut I assume you have.
I might sound kinda crack-pottish here, but the picture IS from a really different angle...
And IF it was a message intended for us to receive in the late 70s, I think that whoever was sending the message did a pretty good job. Built so that, based on our tech level at the time, we would receive a picture of a big face.
Also: Doesn't Mars have some pretty fierce sand-storms? I imagine 25 years of sandstorms would chew up a big surface structure pretty badly...
I'm not saying that I'm 100% sure it was supposed to be a message, but I'm saying that taking photos from hundreds of miles away and then deciding that it's nothing is no substitute to actually visiting that spot and seeing what it's all about on our first manned Mars mission.
I don't see a problem with the USSR analogy. You mention oppressive centralied control. Everything I have read about XP sounds like oppressive centralized control to me. You wanna make an MP3? Too bad, you're gonna be using M$ proprietary format by default. Wanna upgrade your hardware? Oops, time to re-register your O/S, and so on and so forth.
Granted, they're still raking in tons of cash, but there are still, and always will be, some very definite flaws to the way of thinking in Redmond, and (hopefully) that will bring about their ultimate downfall, the sooner the better
Did the Transformers theme song pop into anyone else's head while checking out those pics?
If only they could add an automated, voice-command aspect for switching from laptop to desktop mode....
that all most of the "facts" on M$ little propaganda page relate to Kernel 2.2?
How old is that site? Has Kernel 2.4 not been out since March???
Plenty of time for M$ to pull more "facts" out of their collective asses.
As far as the RAM issue goes, 2.4 supports 64GB, which is a hell of a lot more than 4 GB like their site says.
I'm certain M$ is quite happy to leave the out-of date info up though, it just scares people off of upgrading (yes, I said upgrading) to Linux.
Seriously, there is no way we should take this lying down, I think a calm, collected, truthful response has got to be composed and put into the media, not just on a site where we all know the truth anyway. I'm really interested in this project, if anyone else wants to help get it done, contact me at dstrct0@hotmail.com and let's fight back!
I sincerely hope that someone besides Apple releases this though (not that I doubt Apple will bring it out, if not another large company).
I'm a big supporter of the DIY concept on this one, I'd rather configure and build it myself than allow the companies to dictate what it's capable of. IMO highly documented and broadly supported Open Source is the solution for this one.
Sounds like a pretty wild box, I'm sure most people on here would love to have one.
I'm also sure something like this constitues thoughtcrime in the evil watching eyes of the RIAA and their friends, and it seems that them and the gas companies own the world lately...
One question: What about games??

"Ineffable". i.e. "The ineffable will of Bob".
I forget which Douglas Adams book that's from... Any Douglas Adams fans around here today to remind me? I'm thinking it mighta been Mostly Harmless, but I'm not sure...
I know it's "just" a wm for Gnome, but I think Enlightenment fits the bill here.
:)
Click-based navigation (no unnecessary desktop menu button), customizable, doesn't look much like windows to me
Nobody said he's only gonna lose hair off of his head...

Seeya at Wal-mart.

But Opera can identify itself as other browsers.
To cut down on annoying "You need MSIE x.x to see this site" messages, I have my Opera set to identify itself as IE.
I wonder how many of those other 94% of IE hits on your site are Opera (or other browsers with such an option) in disguise?
My girlfriend is the one who bought our tickets to it, like 2 weeks ago!
:)
This is the same one with the porn collection mentioned in one of my other posts...
Damn I feel lucky!!
M$ Licensing fees!

GREAT idea!!!!
If I were to carry two PDAs, could I then go Yosemite Sam style with my PDA lasers?
How long before this makes an appearance on ThinkGeek? (If it's not already there.... I haven't checked)...
