More likely that people saw the recognisable face of a BMW and opted for that - There's no doubt BMW's are a popular car. And the face is recognisable because its usually the one you see in the rear view mirror tailgating you and flashing its lights.
Thats the very reason I would never be seen dead in such a car.
I've not used windows (well not for any length of time) for many many years. I never thought I would hear myself say this about Microsoft but "Hey thats actually a good idea!"
Lets hope this ethic extends to all the other crap that gets installed as standard like the various ISP icons and the other 20 or so pieces of crap that appear on a fresh PC. While microsoft are at it - perhaps they would consider supplying install media (instead of those crappy restore disks) for the OS too.
My DVD purchasing has actually declined due to blu-ray. Ill still pick up the cheap "interesting" stuff from the bargain bin's but ill actually avoid buying certain films on DVD as my thought process "That's a film id rather own when it comes out on Blu-Ray". Over here (UK) the blu-ray selection even in places like HMV is pretty minimal.
Lets face it - the economies are pretty screwed at the moment and we are all feeling it. Id say blu-ray isnt the only thing that's been seeing a decline in sales...
Admittedly this is a bit shit. But before the Sony Bashers kick of - Remember Apple, EA , Microsoft and many others are also guilty of restrictive DRM.
Thankfully there is this thing called BitTorrent:)
The way to do it is start a site that enables music sharing , and turn a blind eye to anything illegal for as long a possible.
* When the music industry come down on you make sure you milk the publicity for all its worth.
* Announce you have put some security measures in place (but only implemented half heartedly)
* Do this for as long as you possibly can whilst simultaneously increasing your user base to critical mass.
* At that point your userbase is so big that your actually now a tempting proposition for aquisition / or your in a position to sign licensing deals with labels.
Im looking at you , myspace, youtube and friends...
This concept is not new. Do you think MTV paid for all those videos when they firt started out?
That piracy on linux is so rife that this is neccesary? If it really is the case that linux users are pirating games for the platform then shame on you. If we want linux to be taken more seriously as a gaming platform then you have to be prepared to put your wallet where your mouth is and support those companies that are putting the effort in.
this might sound a little crazy but a pilates / swiss ball is the absolute daddy. Once you are used to it its really very comfortable, balancing is fairly easy and kind of forces you into the right posture.
It wouldnt surprise me if it was Britain. Every day i learn something new that makes me despise living here. After all we are generally regarded as being the most spied on nation in the world.
The other day i realised that my entire journey from home to work i am exposed to at least 15 cameras along the entire journey. We have cameras on streets, platforms, buses and trains. When I worked in canary wharf it was more like double that as i needed to use the Tubes which are also littered with CCTV. Some of them actually talk (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/6524495.stm)
While I appreciate its "there to protect us" Im afraid i dont trust the people who's job its to monitor them.
So that's why i wouldnt be at all surprised if it was the UK tracking moves - after all they are tracking everything else. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Menwith_Hill)
Yes, I've been a user for a long time now and I have definitely noticed in the last couple of years the linux thing has really been gathering a lot of momentum. I think a good chunk of this is due to the disaster known as vista which is actually more of a confusing pain in the butt these days than linux has been perceived to be.
I also think that the work thats gone into Ubuntu and its friends has also helped to boost this. Which is why we are seeing companies like Dell , and Acer and others finally taking the plunge. The incredible success and desirability of things like the eeePC just means more and more exposure and with that the "linux fear" becomes reduced.
Couple that with the growing trend of web hosted applications such as google docs , and cross platform tools like firefox. Wine is remarkably good these days (I run Reason and Fruity Loops under WINE). There really is less and less a reason or need for windows any more.
I hope its not just my wishful thinking but im really starting to believe that the ball has gathered so much momentum now that their aint gonna be no turning back:)
Why sticking with a closed source / single vendor operating system is a bad idea. When they stop supporting it or the company goes under you are screwed. Let that be a lesson learned...
What if you legally buy a copy of Leopard from Apple and get it to run on your PC, surely it's your disk and you are entitled to do with it what you will -- including patch the installer...
It is going to be interesting to see how this pans out
Depends, if it takes off and developers write code for lina then by default those apps will be available for linux. Of course its a pipe-dream but if it became the defacto way to develop new applications its entirely possible that in the future those apps such as photoshop, etc would be able to run.
However it is already possible to write one application and deploy accross OSX, Linux and Windows. Simply write and compile against WineLib .
I went to a conference recently at Web 2.0 in San Francisco. I learned that statiscally nowadays more digital pictures are taken with camera-phones than standalone digital cameras. Its really a moot point. When you think about it, a camera phone is always available (if you have one you take it everywhere you go). Its simple to share pictures through web, sms bluetooth etc. It way more accessible. The fact is if you take a room of people you can bet your bottom dollar that a good chunk of them are carrying a camera-phone and little to none will be carrying a standalone one. I really dont see how that means we will "start to see a decline". As far as i am concerned there are way more phones out there than cameras already!
However its good that image quality is getting better, the real test however is how well they take pictures in smokey nightclubs and pubs as that's where most of the pictures get taken!;)
Well , just thought he looked like a miserable bastard in that picture.

Maybe if they couldnt scale this up- instead we could all have our "Mr Fusion" 'esque machine in our back yards!

check you have the right options in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
you probably just have to add a single line to the bottom of
my soundcard was working but i had an issue with it and found i needed to add
"options snd-hda-intel model=laptop position_fix=1"
to the bottom of that file and reboot. I just installed Hardy Heron though and you've probably got a slightly different sound card to me.
either way its worth trying a few options from this file

what flavour was the packet?
I suppose barbeque might be appropriate seeing as he was cremated.

If you like indie music or are looking for new artists there is some great stuff on the bandwagon music site! The music you buy goes to the bands too!
