Sheesh. I want my cellphone to be a Phone. not an internet device, not a tracker, not a web platform, not an MP3 player, Not a camera, not an OMGODZERS ALERT ALERT ALERT!!!!!! - Just a phone. that's it, that's all.
I do not to be properly alerted when I'm out riding my motorcycle in backwater, USA .
It was in the letter they sent out. You'll have to wait till monday to see it on AT$T's site, they haven't updated it to the new terms of service yet (no mention of a 100 gig cap either).
Last update was in June of 2009 - adding link here so it can be found quickly Monday.
What's just as bad as them trying to force you up from DSL to UVerse (hence the 100/250 cap) the terms they sent out also had a provision where you had to be nice when calling in for service issues or they would cancel your account. I quit two weeks ago because AT$T's attitude still sucks, and the company is still Horrible despite realizing that they now have competition.
Have the people wanting the measure fund it. Why should the ISP have to be burdened with the costs? All they are is a connection, not an enforcement arm.
So, the eula's take everything you post on these services (since you agreed to it), make apps to release the info (that you agreed to release) and this guy is a social phenomena for making a program to track what users freely gave up to join the sites in question?
And you never used Netflix to watch a Sony picture? I'm still not buying it.
Back up a sec:) .
I don't like commercials, or how advertising took over entertainment.
It's pretty tough in this world to decide not to buy anything from Sony (or its parent corporation) because it's in virtually everything.
Sony does take a cut out of Netflix. The difference here is - you could not watch any sony movies at all, and they'll still get their share from Netflix. If you see where I said (and the person referenced said) we watch Netflix - so sony thru licensing agreements gets micropayments from anyone who uses the service.
But that's really not the point of this. You can make conscious decisions on limiting your impact on everything . I don't support the folks RIAA is "Protecting", I don't support Sony by purchasing their branded stuff", but most of all, my decisions to cut out satellite and broadcast was because of advertising.
So my one evil is Netflix. Sony's parent corp probably makes.000034 of a dollar off of me per year.
Which is much less than they made off of me in the past.
So apparently you don't go to movies, listen to music or watch television either. It's almost absurd how much of our older content is owned by them.
I can say I don't. It's been about ten-fifteen years since I stepped into a movie theater, I was an early adopter of cutting the cord - like the other guy said, Netflix is my only vice (and the library), And when it got to the point of hearing only 22 minutes or so out of an hour of things that weren't commercials, I quit the radio too. I still buy cd's - of indy bands. Became a big fan of Patchouli.net.
So while I'm sure that you might not like that lifestyle, some of us are perfectly happy avoiding advertising, saving that hundred a month from paying for cable/satellite, and listening to hours of commercial free music. The icing on the cake is apparently Sony's losing money from that too:)
Too bad you can't get US Cellular. AT$T won't get a hold of them. My buddy works in their tower service, they have way too many problems with AT$T and their support for the lines that run to the towers. He spends a few minutes arguing with the tech support who refuses to send out a tech cause their 5 minute diagnostic shows everything is good - then submits an escalated to his tech dept cause the hour long one he took showed spikes.
Wish I could kick AT$T to the curb - almost have but AT$T and comcast are my only two choices for high speed internet - and I hate concast even more than AT$T .
Friends and Family keep asking why I don't have FB or Twitter or MySpace or anything else despite being the tech guy in the group.
I keep telling them that all of that stuff is too technical for me - saves on the long drawn out discussion of why it's bad to be associated with those sites - specially when it comes to "looking for a job" time.
Course, they roll their eyes at me - but hey, a guys gotta get some laughs now and again...
So they would want me to add over 25% of cost to my monthly bill in order to download songs - which I wouldn't and don't?
I have a better idea. for that ten bucks a month I can download any song, movie, or game I want. No media protection, no online DRM, and no exceptions. Iron Man 3 would be available for me to grab and watch for free the day it's released.
I fully support this - as long as we can hold policy makers to the exact same standards of punishment when things go wrong (like recessions, budget shortfalls, and other issues).
if he didn't pull the information down from the site after it gets passed, he'd be in violation of the first paragraph - namely "or otherwise makes available to an unauthorized person" .
The official response comes one day after the company had video of the mod removed from YouTube, a move the company says was part of its routine procedure while reaching out to "discuss with the developer what the mod entailed."
So, to encourage development, they kick people in the ding ding before inviting them to continue doing a good job?
So - like you don't pick out neighbors you don't like and use their information when you are asked to provide it?
I know the phone number I deliver each time to everyone is attached to someone who really loathes me. :)
Ahh, so it's the men who aren't quite men wanting these alerts.
I didn't ask, so you shouldn't of told. :)
Can't we OPT IN for ANY of the above instead?
Sheesh. I want my cellphone to be a Phone. not an internet device, not a tracker, not a web platform, not an MP3 player, Not a camera, not an OMGODZERS ALERT ALERT ALERT!!!!!! - Just a phone. that's it, that's all.

What sucks is you'll have to have an online constant connection in the theater to actually see any movie they put out.
It was in the letter they sent out. You'll have to wait till monday to see it on AT$T's site, they haven't updated it to the new terms of service yet (no mention of a 100 gig cap either).

And why should the customers pay?
The burden should be on the ones hunting, not the rabbits in the field.

Yep - no satellite or cable - broadcast is hooked up for presidential speeches and the superbowl - otherwise it's never on.
Just Netflix and the Library for television stuff.

What would be amusing about this is if it was disinformation.
think about it, third world countries snapping PS-3's in the hopes of building something better than a video arcade?

This is how news organizations work, in order to keep you around during the commercials.
People still do that?
Huh,, even my seasoned citizen Mom starts watching the News about twenty minutes late so she can zip thru the commercials.
She gave me a dirty look when I saw her doing that and said "But Mom, that's how they make their money and stuff'..
Agreed, you "opt in" when you join.

At that point he could be prosecuted.
So, like, how are they going to enforce a law that isn't accepted by the various online gaming companies EULA when they aren't based in china??

But do keep on. It's amusing to see everything evil (up to and including stubbed toes) is because of the tea party.
