One B.S. in EE, one in CS and an M.S. in EE. Aside from Datebook (DateBk3), addresses, PocketQuicken and a few other apps, I primarily used my PalmPilot to disassemble and crack Palm shareware programs. Just a hobby of mine.

All of my views are in a strict sence, self-centered.

...but they have problems programming their VCR and doing anything on the internet. Palm is simple enough for these people that it actually is useful to them. Why do you think Palm was the first really popular PDA? These are the people that are typical Palm users. The average people of the world. Do you understand the PC analogy where most people don't need a Athlon XP 2100+ and GForce4 when they're just going to do wordprocessing and play solitaire?
    No arguement there.

WTF is with all the uninformed FUD flying around here?

They did not ship the wrong cradle. The original cradle had a defect, and was replaced by the E cradle. The defect is called SUDS (Suddenly USB Doesn't Sync), read about it here. It is caused by static electricity, and has a workaround (full battery drain, then recharge, the unit will then be able to sync).

I take it you mean "Some day the Arm processor Palms will be on the store shelves...". They use Moterola Dragonball processors now, Intel (Palm, Inc., other companies may choose other brands) Arm based units in a couple of months.

I also think you are forgetting about the stats. Palm, Inc. by far outsells every other PDA maker, followed distantly by Sony, (who recently swapped third for second with...) Hanspring is third. Don't hold your breath on the Sharp Z. And MS PocketPC is going nowhere.

I know it is not the norm, however with the software that is currently included whith a Palm handheld (Documents to Go, MGI Photo Suite, AvantGo, etc...), can go a long way toward filling your first 8MB. As far as %age of programming Palm OS users, the %age of programming PC users is surely a barometer there. But regular users are my concern only when I code, not how I myself use.

The first true PDA I bought was a Palm IIIe, followed by a Palm m100 (free through Dell), a TRGPro, a Palm m130, and a Handspring Visor (free from coworker who thought it was a goner).

I am a bit of an obsessive Palm user, but then again, I am an obsessive PC user as well. I do the same thing at work as I do off work. I also have a life (six pets, a wife, friends, am avid rock concert goer, a regular d&d game...), I am not the bandaid on the glasses classic nerd. I am finishing up my second degree (plan on a masters next). Is anyone here on /. really normal? The percentage of programmers here is likely much larger than the nonprogrammers. What point did you really think you were making? Do you have a PDA of any type? If yes, do you use it at all?

You are so far off base!! I write Palm OS apps in my off time (PC and www based apps @ work...). The possibilities are only limited by the imagination. I have a Palm m130 (OS 4.1, Color, 8MB w/ 24MB MMC card) and a Handspring Visor Deluxe (OS 3.1, 8MB w/ springboard socket, modem). I am nearly out of space on both. My favorite apps are:
    • Yanoff a GPL'd Palm OS NNTP client, I love reading my newsgroups on the go (I also read them in bed on my m130)
    • Datebk 4 an enhanced datebook app, great features!
    • OnBoard C a C compiler that creates native applications on the Palm itself! Write code in the memopad or in a Doc file (I use QED on my HS Visor and SrcEdit [find it at the prededing link] on my m130)
    • PalmReader I love to read Sci-Fi on my Palm, books are cheap too, browse the link
    • Games by Astraware I have bought a few games by Astraware, they put out great products! Favorites are Mahjong and Zap2016!.

There are many many more but you get the idea. I have Pop3 email, Ftp, telnet, WWW browser, wordprocessing, spreadsheet, etc... loaded on my devices.

Laying here in the shadows of my room, I squint up at my love. My Ms. Portman. I am sore and tired after fucking her for eight solid hours. My chapped and aching dick is soaking in grits to relieve the pain. She gets on her knees and starts lapping the grits up out of the bowl. She places her beautiful hands on my penis and starts to lick the grits off my achy piece.

    Massaging my nutsack she....

    WAIT, I DO IT WRONG!!!!

Yanking my dick out of her mouth I throw her to the ground and shove it in to her gaping freshly fisted ass. [goatse.cx]

"Imagine a Beowulf cluster of this baby!"

I continue to hump her alabaster form. Glistening with beads of sweat, she bites her lip in delight as I tear her ass open with my engorged dick.

"Queen Amidala!!" I shreik as I near climax.

She looks up at me and screams, "You are so alive in me, unlike *BSD or VA Software!!! Fill me with seed!! Yes, Yes, Yess!!!!"

"For me you are calling, hhhmmm?"

"YODA?!? What the fuck, can't you see I am using the force here?"
