Are you sure you have the facts straight? Are you sure you mean the RIAA? Even if you meant the MPAA I don't think they are really involved in this one either, this is between two competing formats. Did you RTFA, did you RTFS? Are you ok? Did you have too much coffee today?
fewer people will "upgrade" from XP Why does Microsoft need to get consumers to upgrade to their newest OS when your buy it new when you buy a new PC? If they were worried about upgrades why does my new laptop give me a free upgrade to Vista? I would like to see how much money Microsoft made from upgrades to XP versus sales of XP from new PC's. There are still companies and people running Windows 2000! Once you stop supporting a release with patches etc a portion of those people will be forced to upgrade also.(I'm willing to bet a sizable portion), and even if they don' upgrade the OS on their existing hardware the will when they buy new hardware.
Ehh to origianl for hollywood, I think it would go something like this. Hot Dog Vendor:Kid, What are you, stoned or stupid? You don't hack a terrorism-simulation computer across state lines from your house, you'll get nailed by the FBI.
But as another post has already pointed out this blimp wont get you out of the atmosphere. So where is the top of the space elevator going to be? I don't think this thing will get you very high at all. Weather balloons will only get you to 40km or so (according to wikipedia). I can't even imagine all the things that would prevent getting this craft that high, It's not a sealed envelope so the air inside the envelope will thin as the craft rises I imagine this would decrease your lifting potential. To continue even though I know nothing and I'm just using conjecture wouldn't you have to heat the air ever hotter to continue to rise? If so then the fuel cost would make it prohibitive.
Lets say your right (You probably are) does that mean that it's not worth learning? I mean think about how wrong our concepts were when Newton Galileo and Einstein were learning, should they have just said "it's not worth reading and thinking about since in the end it's probably wrong"
I agree with you compltely. To expand I also take issue with this sentace in the origianl story submission: things that resemble Earth's geology & atmosphere are going to require the least effort & resources. I'm sorry butif Titan has an Earth like geology wouldn't that make it a reason to avoid it. If it has quakes like Earth then you have to worry about making your colony survive those two. And if teh atmosphere is not friendly to humans (it's not) then getting a crack in your building is going to be even worse than it would on Earth.

Fires always burn up, not down. That comment made me think, I've heard it countless times on TV shows etc. Right now I just thought about how many times I've burnt my fingers holding a lit match.
Am I the only one here who has dropped (multiple times) a new cell phone with out any ill effects? Granted it does have some scars from the concrete and asphalt but it still works just fine. I can't help but to wonder if this is a "things-in-the-old-days-were-better" issue
But Linux is just impossible to support (too many distros, too many configurations, too many kernel versions, too many GUI environments, too many ways to fuck up, etc).
That's funny I seem to remeber a version of Unreal Tournament (2004 maybe) released a linux version along with the windows DVD's.
I realized something when I was approaching the end of teenage years. I figured that emotions like trust and respect where for lack of a better word mature emotions. Fear on the otherhand seems to be very primal, until kids are old enough to understand and exhib trust and respect, a limited amount of fear will work just as well.
It worked for me I never knew how much my parents knew about me, I was always afraid the knew the answer before they asked. I think this would be a good thing for parents. It's easy to trust your child when they call and say where they are, it takes effort to make sure they are lying to you.
I remember this one! This is one where the coyote sat his ass in a slingshot then strapped himself to an acme rocket. Is that what we're doing here? No really, cos it didn't... work out too well for the Coyote, Harry!... We have a lot better rockets than the Coyote.
Sorry I couldn't resist, it's just one of my favorite quotes.

I'm sorry but did you even take time to read the article? I ask because you make statements about saying stuff like this: When a competitive free market group of companies goes after work, they have to balance their profit versus their ability versus the good use of their time. If you bid a job and win it, there's no going back and asking for more. But that's exactly what the article talks about. Accenture was the prime, or at least had the majority of the contract and they screwed up spent a lot of the governments money and quit .
Then you talk about universal health care? What does that have to do with TFA? If I had to guess I would just say you read the title and picked out some of your favorite arguments that had nothing to do with TFA and strung them together to get a +5 insightful. Congradulations you know how to play to the mindless sheep.
(they, no lie, make you survey your proposed broadcast area and give them elevation maps, etc) I had an internship with a software company that devolved a program to provide these maps. My question is why should this come as a surprise? Elevation data is used to determine how you signal will propagate. You'll see geographically how far you signal will go, you'll see where shadows will be say if a mountain is in the way etc. SO why is this something you feel the FCC shouldn't want?
And who says the definition of a crime cam't change? It's not he didn't know what he were doing was determined to be unlawful and punishable as a federal crime.
