I just went to movie88.com and signed up for an account, and noticed $5.00 of complimentary credit... that's pretty cool. I choose to watch Casablanca for my first movie, and clicked on a wrong link (apparently), when I get the following error:
     "You already having this movie!"
It's such a shame that a company with so many on point ideas and cutting edge innovation had to be laid to rest. I have always enjoyed the content of this site, as they have made a respectable effort to preserve Atari's legacy. Take a look at their arcade exhibit, especially the 1970-1974 page. There is also solid content on some interesting projects and prototypes that you probably had no idea Atari even attempted, like the AtariTel division, which developed phones designed by Porsche. Many interesting pictures...
was of a recent Ask Slashdot article that talks about the unnecessary HTML formatting in Windows mailers. The problems are that they force you to reply in HTML, and include HTML headers that are impossible to not include in replies. There is nothing like having to spend time reformatting a whole email discussion just because some Windows mailer HTMLized the whole thing. This guy has the right idea; Let's just not include MS mailers if they are not going to follow the standard and make everything diffcult. MS tries to reinvent the wheel too much
then linux has taken a step towards failure. I dont want linux to become another Windows OS populated with Windows users. I like linux just the way it is. I don't want to receive badly formatted mail from MS programs. I don't want masses of unpatched systems because of users who don't even understand why it is important. I help Windows users with such tasks as forwarding email, putting the address in the 'to:' field, and "The window did not dissapear, it just went into the background." Windows is for them, and we have linux. Let's keep it that way.
As I am reading this discussion, I see the same story on the 10:00 news. The story ends with the line: "...to make users feel safe on the Internet," as they show boxes of Windows 98 Upgrade rolling down an assembly line. Yeah, I feel safe.
"Barring a new invention, which is always possible, 'It should take us to the end of silicon...as we know it today,' he said."
I always thought that moletronics would eventually replace silicon for good. The technology is manufactured at much smaller levels than what is being talked about in the article.
It's 9:15 pm here and I just saw the ad that "was yanked" from the main link earlier. I refreshed a couple of times to get it again, and saw it. Anyone with me here, we need to "yank" the update off (no, that just doesn't sound right, no, I will stop).
Your less likely to be thrown out of a club in another state for having an ID they don't recognize
I wanted to comment about this. This is the best pro to having a national ID card system. I live in Massachusetts and here they have three different ID cards: liquor ID, state ID, and drivers license. I don't have a drivers license so I went out and got a state ID card. Even in Mass., I can't get into bars or buy liquor with a state ID. "But this is a STATE ISSUED ID! My birthdate is RIGHT THERE!," I say. They want a liquor ID, however, and I refuse to go spend another $50 on an ID card that I ALREADY have.
This is in my own state, so you can imagine what the parent post means by out-of-state. It's madness folks.
After reading the article, I was amazed that IBM didn't provide any links to it's own wearable PC prototype. The link shows a picture, has a brief blurb, and some Q&A with Russell Budd, the inventor.
I saw a post the other day about having/. consider running a mirror for each story. I couldn't load the review at 5 comments. What's the point of posting a story when you can't look at it? Just have a mirror up for a couple of hours until the/. effect wears off. No big deal to do that.
I would probably say that the Atari 2600 "Adventure Dot" was one of the first documented eggs. It was created by Warren Robinett. I think that eggs and cheat codes are for the hacker types who like to understand and take apart what they are working with. What fun would it be finding codes if they "just tell you what they are?" That is why you buy a game in the first place. Eggs and codes can show up in the most interesting places, the fun is finding them.
Watching Cowboy Bebop in your jammies and eating a bowl of Shreddies is *not* "getting on with your life".
What you do in your spare time is your own business, buddy. Seriously though, people are getting on with their lives by not letting themselves be terrorized. You are simply feeding the media frenzy.
Take a look at this link to a Panasonic sweepstakes where they are giving away actual Nintendo Gamecube units with an additional TV/VCR/DVD Combo unit. Why aren't they promoting their own 'Q' units, which combined this technology into one unit?
This site, snpp.com, is a Simpsons archive full of guides, papers, and all kinds of resources for research if anyone really wants to look into studying this further. The quality and content are solid. I highly recommend it.
"That said, I'd take that class. Have to make sure to watch my homework tonight."
I don't know, the only thing that comes to mind is you turning into the fat Comic Book Guy, CmdrTaco.
Ben and His Projects
on
SNES Portable
·
· Score: 3, Interesting
I was going to post a story on Ben Heckendorn's SNES portable, but I decided to wait until he is finished with something far more interesting.
The Gamecube is already a very much portable unit, considering it's external and internal size, carrying handle, and detachable screen. This is Ben's next un/confirmed project over at his site. I found his comment on this in the forums. While the portable aspect of the Gamecube is nifty, Ben focuses on making consoles into handheld units (so yes it is portable already, but not handheld). The SNES is interesting, but I'm waiting to see how this turns out.

Hillarious!
"There is a ticker on the site that is currently showing just a hair over 10,000 visits. Now we can watch the /. effect in real time."

Instead of slashdotting the site, maybe whoever wrote or posted the story could have posted the TWO mirrors provided:

Just a thought...
I think I am all lego'd out for now.
Are legos the new trendy material crap?

Whelp, I'll admit that sucked
I have a cache and this is all I have to post it to [geocities...]:

You can't just post ASCII art or else you will get the following error:
Lameness filter encountered. Post aborted!
Reason: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.

CmdrTaco said: "Don't foresee turning my PS2 off much this week. Can't talk now. Must see Lord of the Rings, and then play more FFX."
Well now, you are in grave danger of turning into the comic book store guy from The Simpsons. Worst. Trilogy. Ever.

I know it's kind of late, but here is a great link to a study on war driving that is _much_ more detailed than the original article:
