  1. Re:I'm running vista business and I'm happy on University of Penn. Recommends Against Vista SP1 · · Score: 1

Vista Ultimate on 2.4 Northwood & 1 GB memory, Radeon 9700 w/ 2 monitors. Always have Visual Studio 2008, SQL Mgt Studio and several remote desktop connections to test servers open. Never had a problem, it works great. All the problems being reported remind me of the early days of XP... everybody hated that OS back then, now they love it.

Well put, I installed Win2008 Server last week to start doing some testing for a client and was surprised that the installation process puts games on the machine and has folders like My Pictures and My Music. I mean really, is this supposed to be a serious server operating system? If "yes" then why would you have such things installed? It makes no sense to me at all.

There will be a "think of the children" campaign. People will protest children seeing adult material and someone will argue that "the technology already exists" to solve this problem. These cameras will detect that children are in the room and block inappropriate material. A law will be passed requiring the camera-in-box technology. There you go... it's in people's homes.

I'm running Vista Ultimate with Aero & dual monitors on an old 875 motherboard, 2.4Ghz Northwood, 1GB ram, Radeon 9600 AGP. No problems whatsoever and performance is fine for work apps (don't play games). I'm thinking of getting a couple of radeon 2400 cards (one AGP one PCI) so I can run three or four monitors.

Thanks for the recognition to RMS, within the last 10 years there were certainly times it seemed like he was being pushed aside by Open Source.

Open Source & Free Software are going to be crucial in another way in the coming years, and that's for the development of talent. So few companies seem willing to grow talent internally and outsource entry level programming duties. It's soon going to be the case that the only opportunity to obtain development skills will be through participation in Open Source and Free Software projects. If software patents get in the way of this, it will be another step in the U.S. killing itself for corporate greed.

  11. Re:Great change on eBay to Drop Negative Feedback on Buyers · · Score: 1

I've gotten negative feedback as a buyer once and it was 7 years ago. I seller sent me an email saying "I'll leave positive feedback about you if you do about me." I replied to the email and said that I had decided to not leave feedback because the product was junk and was useless because it had screws broken off in the tapped holes, but it only cost me a dollar plus shipping so I was going to let it drop. This asshole seller then posted negative feedback about me, calling me a liar, and then posted two follow-ups that were also complete lies. Naturally, this seller had terrible feedback and wasn't a registered user a year later, but I still have the negative feedback. This negative feedback says nothing about that transaction. The seller got their money, but they didn't like something I said so they flamed me and made me look like a bad buyer when I'm not.

My sister whines about the cost of heating & cooling her home, like someone forced her to build a 5400 square foot four-bedroom home with 3-story tall ceilings that needs 2 air conditioning systems, all for her and two kids. My in-laws' huge house also requires 2 central air conditioning systems and has two kitchens and only the two of them live there.
