At least in a football game the ads are not out of place. They could even be used to fund free (haha yeah right) updates to rosters.
In a game like BF:2142, ads are totally out of place and detract from the immersion that would otherwise be there. From what I read about SWAT:4, the ads were so intrusive and all over every wall of the map that it is total overkill. Really the problem is these games that have ads but the ads don't do anything for the gamer. If they are not funding a service or reducing the price of the game for real -- by offering ad-free and ad-funded versions -- then they are going to be scorned by gamers. I personally will block ads if they add them into a game I enjoy without a fair trade, just like I have been doing since the day they added ads into ICQ 98b.
According to my brother, who just got out of Iraq on his second tour, their ROI have been updated to basically say that if someone is shooting at them they can engage. Previously they had to escalate and get someone who isn't even in the field to okay any engagement.
Definitely a lack of exposure. I've not yet personally seen apps like that, and I'm sure it's nice to not have to worry about the stuff you do with a web app (like cross browser display issues). From my personal experience though, flash is almost always well used for animations or games, or badly used to make an interface that's fancier (and clunkier) than a regular website. So I guess it's just like any other tool. Use it well and we won't have to complain about it =)
I agree, and in fact that's what I said when I first heard about this a couple days ago. I have heard about this a couple of times from frat initiation events (not hazing, they swear!) where they are making them drink lots of water since it isn't alcohol, which most people know will kill you if you drink 4 gallons in 30 minutes. At least one of these was local so that might be why I took notice in the first place.
If I were putting together a stunt for my company I would probably do some research too. I don't think that's the norm though, especially when it comes to something 'safe' like water.
As much as this guy is getting marked troll, I would prefer to play most FPS games on my PC because mouse/keyboard. Plus my wife is usually using the big TV.
However FPS games on the Wii may finally change my mind.
Interestingly, Wii Sports Tennis does care. In addition to forehand, backhand and how or high balls, it's possible to slice the ball. How to do it is not immediately obvious. I first saw this when the better computer players started doing it, and I've figured out how to do it: You turn the controller while hitting the ball as if you were to slice it in real tennis. Well... D'oh. Hmmm... interesting! I thought I was seeing behavior like that before but I'll have to check it out tonight. I haven't spent too long just messing around with tennis, I have too many friends who all wanted to try it out.
I've not actually played a Wii game yet that's really convinced me of the controller's merits. There are two types of goodness that come from the new controller: the IR sensor for pointing is #1. To appreciate this, you should try one of the FPS games. Once you get used to the controls it is awesome (like Duck Hunt only better!). Other good ones are games like Trama Center.
#2 is obviously the motion detection. This one is harder to know how good it is, but I know at least Monkey Ball seems to have plenty of responsiveness in the controls to know that the remote is capable of a lot. Wii Sports seems to be at best a tech demo that gets people (very) interested in the console. I am personally looking forward to a tennis game that actually cares how you hold the remote, since the technology is there.
Judging by the comments on Broadband Reports they sound just as bad as wireless phone companies in the contract department -- automatically resubscribing people to another year of service and charging $180 to break out of "contracts" early.
no... we could be seeing very near the 'edge' of the universe or there could be lots more space beyond this distance. We can't tell because anything further hasn't had time for light to get to us yet. This is the edge of the _visible_ universe.
huh? are you confused or just talking out your ass? it works just like any other DAP when you put music on it. It doesn't add DRM to anything, and it only restricts plays of wirelessly transfered songs -- and that is a NEW feature that nobody else can even do yet.
In Windows, if there is even one program that users need, which will not run unless everybody is an administrator, there is NO defense against the installation of malware. Sometimes the program preferences of these programs allow it to be set up to not need admin privs. Unfortunately, the number of programs on Windows that require admin status are not few.Can you name any that REQUIRE you to be admin? I don't know of any that normal people would use, and my group runs all our users as regular users.
I would wager that average consumers don't circumvent DVD region encoding because all their DVDs are from the same region, and that's because you can't buy other region DVDs at best buy. Most who bother to import do circumvent it.
I do IT at a university hospital, I lock my computer 10+ times a day when I leave the room. We also have policies requiring the users do the same, even though they can autolock after 15 minutes. When you get up to go to the restroom for 2 minutes you can't leave your computer unlocked where anyone could wander up and start looking at things they shouldn't.
You'd most likely be wrong. MMOs have a higher average age than their chat interfaces might lead people to believe.
h p and unfortunately it's not WoW specific, but you can find some interesting stuff on that website.

You should check out robocopy, it's nice for jobs like that (and you don't have to babysit it at all).
Also no, unless they are using it to show funny animations (the only real good use of flash so far).
They already have enough trouble getting stuff at the same time as the NA/Asian markets, and if this goes into effect, they'd be even worse off.

This is good news for people who are trying to use content they recorded, like they should be able to.
Or at the very least, it would be nice of them to use iCarve to design a hip looking face. That was very utilitarian for an Apple... er.. Pumpkin.
and this is how man boobs are born Jimmy!

FUD is the 4th most common word used on slashdot. Please refer to any Linux, BSD, Apple, or Microsoft article.

The Navy only uses HI-FI Monster Cable, it provides clearer sound to explode those torpedos!
