"Huge dirt ramps and lots of slave labor."

Not supporting one theory over another, I have a basic engineering question. Some say that "huge dirt ramps" though a popular guess, is said to be an impossible / unlikely method to build the Great Pyramid at Giza given the amount of dirt needed to support the 10-70 ton blocks that make up the 146.5 metres (481 feet) tall monument. That the amount of dirt needed to support an average block at that height would collapse under it's own weight.

It is said this is a relatively simple problem of physics for engineers... so the question is... any engineering majors out there that can make a few quick calculations followign these ideas of "huge dirt ramps"?

Would really like someone to try some simple equations to shed light on the above. Also further interesting to note that the amount of dirt needed to build such a huge ramp was apparently never found... and the apparent evidence that the Egyptians were actually not very war-like or aggressive casting doubt on the "slaves" aspect of the idea.

in the motives for this; but simply, this is a major step the government is taking to control the internet; what you see, what you hear, what you think, it's all about who controls the information (Marty!) ;)

To clarify the confusion; this step is being pushed through to give the government key information that will help them undertand the psychology of the average internet user in effort to make moves towards influencing & controlling the information (like is done in every other popular media form). Unfortuantely, Google alone cannot stop this.

Where we fail is that we think it will be obvious like:
Gov. body: "American people, can we take control of the internet to further our own greed?"
Of course the American people would reply:
    American people: "Hell no!"

But don't think for a minute, for a nano-second, that these manuevers will be overtly public & obvious and without spin. No, it will likely take the standard "scare you with something to fear, then offer a vague solution that favors Gov." form that we fall for again and again.

What makes me say this? How do i know?

Because it works and is exactly what i (and any clear thinking person) would do if they had such desire and the resources (our tax dollars at work); which i don't in either case... i tend to more lean towards those crazy "sharing is better than hoarding" & "truth reigns supreme" ideas... 5. Speaking from experience... on Long Dev Time Equals Better Game? · · Score: 1

after over 10 years at big and small dev & publishing houses alike, hits and misses, taking a long time on a game is due more than anything to lack of professionalism, lack of a coherent vision, & lack of understanding of the game and the game's players.

Good games shouldn't take a long time. That isn't to say there is one way to make a game, but "taking a long time" is the suckers route, not to mention the most expensive (and in part why many game dev houses fail after a year or two).

To avoid this, try getting a good designer, one who doesn't just do what they think is "cool" but actually knows how to build in the player's experience. And don't hire people full time if you don't need them full time. Lastly, look into the many reasons "collaboration" exists on each film projects; why film production companies (often a group of friends) are created for 1 project and why that's enough.

at the time, he was a jovial guy, despite the sorted legal histories, with a thick Russian accent and loud, boisterous laugh.

i was tasked with designing a game that would popularize Windows as a gaming platform (a concern at the time, Win95 was just released) and was thinking about different ways to achieve this. i asked myself about why certain other games were hugely popular, and of course Tetris was on the list. i'd deemed the reason to be that in Tetris, the player does something that they do nearly every second of their waking life; recognizing and sorting information.

not long after, a new hire was announced in a separate games division. he was really the only other Game Designer at MS at the time, so naturally i sought a rapport; it was Alexey afterall!. we chatted about various things, men of similar ilk (on paper anyway), when one day, i just flat out asked him...

"Alexey, why do you think Tetris is so popular?"

he thought about it for a moment, me in silent anticipation realizing the absurdity of the situation; i'm once again talking with the designer of arguably the world's most popular game, when he finaly answered in his Russian-lined English accent...

"You know Joe, I think it's because it is...something that people do everyday."
