    Well, actually, that's kinda my point. He's been doing a ton of work that not a whole lot of folks notice. Granted RedHat is paying him to do it and Linus has another job, but still...

    I do agree, and certainly don't argue the point that, an "award" isn't the greatest way to say "thanx, man", but some mention of the guy would be nice...

    Hey!

    I hate to be a stick in the mud, but...
    I *KNOW* these folks have done wonders for us and the industry, but what about Allen? My impression of the guy (only from reading online interviews and such) is that he's not the sort of bloke that would really even think of getting recognised like this (I could be VERY wrong, I don't know the guy). But to recognise Linus (I know, he greatly helped start all this stuff, please don't flame me for that), is really electing a Poster Child (as he has said Himself).

    Sorry. I'm just helping vote for the Underdogs...


    (Man, I'm losing mod points like crazy latley...)

    I've been using MDK for a couple years now. I just slapped my MDK 8.1 Install CD in a box to test this. I honestly didn't know those little colored bars at the bottom DID anything...

    What is the word "draconian" in reference to? I first (and only) think of the Weis&Hickman Dragonlance books. There was a race of dolts named Draconians that were rather prevelant in the stories.

    How is the PDA icon for a CellPhone accurate? Granted this thing is far more than a Cell, but I don't think it warents the PDA icon...

    will 3.0.x work?

    My understanding, and yes I could be wrong but, 3.0 and 3.0.1 are still kinda broke. The 3.0.2 release is supposed to include many fixes and should be considered usable.
    Plese don't consider this 100% truth as I can't find the link I read, at the moment... :-(

    And they only talk about the 2.2.x kernels. Kinda old, man. There's been a lot of work done with the 2.4.x breeds (most back-ported to 2.2.x) that make SMP a God Send (TM).

    Also:

    AMD and Cyrix do not support SMP.

    I'm sitting at work with no one here. A full T-1 and a Mandrake box under my desk (not to mention the 4 or 5 other *NIX boxes around me). I'm typing this because people like to flame those who are drinking.

    I'm drinking Gin&Tonics. I grabbed a Lime and Tonic water at the local convience store (WaWa, for you folks on the East-Coast). I stopped by the Liquer store after that for a small bottle (plastic) of Gorden's Gin. Then I came in here to work. Nope nothing's wrong here, just a fast pipe. :-)
    I keep a knife at my desk now. I use it to cut the lime.

    I'm drinking. Screw karma. I finally got above 5, and now I realize I don't care... :-)

    Why is that so hard to believe? While the damage in the IMEDIATE are was indeed horrible, the imediate surrounding area is still fairly in tact.
