It annoyed me so much that I wrote this response to it on the O'Reilly Network.
And the response, as I saw it:
Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@oreillynet.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
So, in response, you/we slashdot'd them as punishment... Hehe.
The irony is that the Chinese government distrusts the US government and Microsoft while embracing an Open Source solution (Red Flag Linux?). If anything, they should embrace Microsoft and work with them to get the control that they want. The source would be closed. They would be in control.
Either that, or they can subvert the GPL and distribute binary-only versions of a Linux distro with tricks up their sleeve.
It remains to be seen how/if they can control the Internet by creating "special versions" of various software.
I did a search on "Star Wars" and saw this neat looking graphic. I then clicked on "Lucas" and then waited. And waited. And waited. The counter at the bottom of the screen went past 30. Then it timed out with the message:
"the connection with kartoo failed. If the problem persists, you can send a message on kartoo@kartoo.com and we will try to find a solution.:-)"
I sure hope this search engine does something that the others cannot do. Because no one is going to want to wait more than 3 seconds for results. The standard to meet or beat is Google's (decent results in short period of time).
One day, Link witnesses a huge, menacing bird that snatches Link's younger sister and flies away with her. Link follows in hot pursuit. His search for her sets in motion an epic adventure that will have Link sailing the high seas and searching for answers to the mystery behind her disappearance.
I don't know... Trying to save your sister from the clutches of evil just doesn't seem to have the same effect as saving a beautiful, unrelated princess. I mean, unless [insert redneck joke here], don't you want to be able to get with the girl you saved at the end of the game?
And, in related news, the Federation of Outlook Virus Writers (F0VW) has submitted a complaint to U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, claiming that a modular Windows would destroy their market.
According to F0VW spokesman ph34r-m0ng3r, a modular Windows would give consumers the option of removing Outlook Express, a component normally installed in a basic Windows installation. This component is critical to the "successful operation and deployment of Outlook-related virii", he said.
"We believe Microsoft should have the right to innovate," he also said. "Outlook was built with many features that we like to, um, exploit. Thousands of popular worms and virii were made possible by their software and the industry is growing every day. A modular Windows would kill this development and ruin the industry."
An emergency hearing to consider this new petition is forthcoming, according to sources close to F0VW and Microsoft.
The fact that the initial code name was Project Midway -- they don't want the Japanese people to know that because it will hurt their feelings."
Well, it could have been worse. Project Hiroshima anyone? It will obliterate the competition!
I can see it now...

Corp Wars Episode X: The Fair-Use Menace
A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away...
The enforcement of digital rights in outlying systems is in dispute.
The Greedy Federation Against Software Theft has started the shipment of FAST 'F' plugins to the small planet of Naboo backed by a blockade of deadly corporations...
While the Congress of the United States endlessly ignores this alarming chain of events, the Senator from South Carolina, Fritz Hollings, has secretly dispatched representatives from the CBDPTA, the self-appointed guardians of IP, to support this effort..."
And, in related news, Microsoft has filed a complaint in an Arizona court alleging that Tempe-based Integrated Information Systems (IIS) infringes on the Microsoft Internet Information Server (also IIS) trademark. According to Microsoft spokesperson Linda Jameson, IIS (the company)'s name would cause confusion among corporate customers since both it and Microsoft's server product offer similiar services. Calls made to the IIS (the company)'s offices were not returned.
Basically, if we can do this, there is a lot of money to be made in the industry. Incidently, I am supported by large contributions from that same industry. They win. I win. Everyone is happy.
Wow! I've always had problems getting stuff supported. I don't understand why more users haven't complained about their stuff not working under Linux and such. The fact that stuff is finally being considered by some of these big-shot manufacturers allows me to sleep better at night. I don't have to worry about moving wholesale to Microsoft-sponsored things.
Honestly, the fastest track for someone like you with a ton of experience in development and programming languages is to get a CIS (computer information systems) degree. You could probably show them "equivalent work-related projects" so that can count against having a final project, you can breeze through alot of the other project courses. All you'd have to worry about is the general studies requirements. I'd say you can get it all done comfortably in 2.5 years.
I've seen someone get an Engineering degree in 2 years. He was an ROTC guy who was told by the Navy he only had 2 years to get his degree. He averaged about 20-25 hours per semester (normal students ~15/semester) and sometimes had to take a class right before he could take its prerequistite (damn scheduling concerns). But he made it -- on average he got B's and C's.
... Microsoft makes Philips a deal they can't refuse and Philips creates paper driven by Windows CE?
That would mean we'd have a piece of paper that starts with a splash screen, followed by some kind of EULA "agreement", then "content" provided by Microsoft "partners".
Or better yet... one day, you'll have to work the media circuit to promote your new language. Hmmm... wait... that means you'd be going everywhere plugging ASS.
And I'm sure people would be interested to see you do that.:)
Yes, it's true that Hilary Rosen is a woman and a lesbian. Please don't make fun of her just because of that. Make fun of her because she is part of an evil, greedy corporation called the RIAA. It won't help matters if gender-specific and sexual-orientation-specific comments from this site make the headlines at other news sites instead of the truly meaningful and insightful comments.

Just being the devil's advocate here...

Differential Power Analysis and even Simple Power Analysis (SPA) can be used on a smart card.

CS degree != Programming

So it can be done.
Good luck.
I'd like to give that a try now that the proceeds for its sale won't be going anywhere.
Anyone know of a mirror that has it? (the PRO edition, not the personal edition).
Thanks.

Could someone please link to the English translation of this article? Babelfish didn't seem to recognize many of the words.

You had me for a minute there... I thought we had another attack on our country. It's just another (weirdly-titled?) article about PERL.
...wouldn't involves IIS at all, but Apache!! At my shop, we changed from IIS to Apache and it works great. Much faster and more stable.
Why don't more people know about the power of Apache, even if on an NT platform? It's not all about choosing Linux vs. Microsoft.
Microsoft Attempts to Secure IIS
Keep trying...
