My car uses totally different physical wires for the CD player and for the brakes. In fact the braking system is redundant. So WHY wouldn't a f*cking Boeing have at least the same kind of separation!?
Great idea, poor technical implementation. Their MySQL is already dropping connections due to/. effect. Major fun when they start serving these extremely popular videos we're all going to upload.
Mac OS X is visually beautiful and very stable. But GNU/Linux runs circles around it if you look at performance.
I will buy a MacBook Pro. And I will install GNU/Linux on it. Because it's Free Software. Because it can be done. And if you use Debian or Ubuntu, you get thousands of software packages easily apt-get-able with source code available. Hardware compatibility issues can, and eventually will, be solved.
You see? I do whatever I like with my hardware, others don't need to understand it. Private property is great. It's funny when Free Software haters call us "communists" X'-D
Backwards compatibility (or inertia) is always killing us. Yes, getting current standards has been hard so everybody wants to keep them. Even when they aren't the best choice. That's strictly technical, it has ugly consequences but we're not supposed to fall in an "argumentum ad consequentiam", at least we should be able to clearly enunciate problems. No heresy there, just a chance to think about issues and eventually fix them:-P
And it gets worse when you look at the protocols and languages. Can't you see it? Web 2.0? Thats CRAP! That must be the most convoluted way to get a job done. We're using many old tools in pretty new (and bizarre, and sub-optimal) ways. Look at Gmail or any other "Web Application". Think about it, think about how it works, in detail, from HTTP queries to XHTML messages and JavaScript execution. Would YOU design it THAT way from scratch??? It's scary. If you really know HTTP, you will probably find some clunky issues around.
Web 2.0 is like x86. It's just a bunch of clever tricks to recycle many old standards, and JavaScript is not even a standard language so different browsers have to be supported one by one. Its technically HORRIBLE. You can call it a great hack so it sounds cooler. And it works and almost everybody is pretty excited with this "new technology", just like they almost faint when I say that current browsers and web applications should be rewritten from scratch, with no drugs around. Hey, truth does not need to be nice.
What's all that crap about true emotions? You can write a software to guess emotions by looking at faces, you can apply these algorithms to the Mona Lisa if you want to try to guess her (?) emotions, and of course you can say that the outcomes are her (?) true emotions. But if you skip the last step, or at least say guessed instead of true you will look a bit more scientific:-P
No, of course it should NOT be open sourced. They should let it die. Yeah, that was sarcasm:-P
I mean... ALL software should be Open Source (more precisely, it should be Free Software) so it could survive for at least as long as its users. The question is pointless!
I read your book about COCOA and I really enjoyed it, so I'm taking your advice very seriously. I won't be able to visit Big Nerd Ranch this time (thousands of miles, big oceans in the way, etc., you know O:-) but now I'm more likely to learn Ruby.
I'm afraid you don't know what are you talking about. Bloatware here means doing two antagonic things with the same package of expensive software while wasting your resources. The first thing is putting your system in danger with a poorly designed operating system. The second thing is trying to make it secure with more software instead of properly fixing the design from the beginning. It's like buying a sieve and some duct tape and expect it to behave like a big spoon:-)
I didn't block ads until the flash era. You know, those with unexpected (and annoying) sounds and repetitive animations, much like the Macarena-dancing-Christ in that Simpsons episode about the secret island.
Then I decided that they were way too intrussive for me so I started blocking them. And I ended blocking the other ads, too. This is my computer, my screen, my bandwidth, and by the way, these are my speakers... they aren't cheap, I've paid for them, so I use them exactly as I want, because they are _mine_.
Yeah... that attitude implies some DRM issues, too:-P
Just replace "USB FlashDrive" with "Google YourLifeLive" or something, and you might be hitting the nail... dumb hardware everywhere, good Internet connections, and Google taking care of all your stuff. It's already working with e-mail, right?:-P
It's funny, and it's legal: don't be greedy and share it. If you have some kind of hosting with pre-paid bandwidth in excess, just use it. I'll be seeding it at 512KB/s (that's 4Mbps) for one week:-D
Cisco should be punished, not Lynn. This issue is a problem caused by Cisco to its customers.
OK, I'm not so naïve. I understand Cisco, their methods and their motivation... but I don't have to like it. And it's good to explain the truth to people.
Is this part of some obscure plot by Micro$oft to look defenseless and pathetic, to get our deepest sympathy? I'm an almost-100% Free Software user and an almost-always Microsoft trasher, but after reading this great description of their "new product" I'm all about sending some spare Euro Cents to Redmond, in a package with some powdered milk boxes:-P

Ooooh! Time Machine! X'-D
Just add a few more lines and parameters, and it's actually usable
Digital Cameras, Pro or Semi-Pro (i.e. not the point & shoot ones) with...
Why? Well, you don't need to look at the controls to operate them. That's good.

I'm catholic. They're insane.
Oh, wait... they're all already using pirated windows... nevermind.

Oh... and ours is (and runs on) 100% closed source, so it keeps all these evil open source guys out of our... I mean... "your" computer :-P

Why don't we call them just SATAN, so the name will be good for any (Nth) generation?
