In fact, they'll look way better than the last generation, which already looked pretty awesome.
I bought my Gamecube when Windwaker came out. I always thought the games looked really good but I stick mostly to first-party games. I buy Nintendo hardware because I think Nintendo makes the best games. However, I recently got Metroid Prime and to be totally honest I was blown away, and that's an old game. I have heard Resident Evil 4 is amazing. So I am not at all surprised that they based the Wii on the Gamecube and just pumped it up. It's a great development concept and very attractive to developers who want to maximise their profits.
Yeah, it's not like it's digg or anything, which is quickly outpacing slashdot in terms of content, usability and the ability for everyone to have a moderation point for every post.
Palladium is currently so expensive because it's not used for much outside of jewelry. It's sometimes used as a catalyst. Up until recently it's been a relatively worthless metal because it's soft and has a low melting point. It's use in jewelry has only come from the fact it's almost a byproduct of refining platinum. That's why it costs so much. It's not worth refining it yet.
I'm not entirely sure how portable Solaris is, I know it runs on Sparc and X86 but it would now also have to run on a G4 and G5 as when 10.5 is supposed to appear the final G4's will be less than a year old if purchased recently and the machine models themselves will be less than 2 years old and Apple is STILL selling G5s.
There's definitely something brewing in the kernel at Apple, which is why I think Avie left, but it's probably in the effort to make executables ELF instead of Mach-O
What's your evidence that the HD-DVD player is easier to build and cheaper? Or that the Blu Ray player will around $800-$1000?
ALL OVER GOOGLE.
Microsoft has stated that the reason they have backed HD-DVD over Blu-Ray is because it is less expensive for their hardware partners to implement because the process for building HD-DVD players and for creating HD-DVD discs is similar to DVD. You can read that in any press release MS has given for why they back HD-DVD.
Most people backing Blu-Ray are doing so because the thinking goes that everyone is going to buy a PS3 and it will have Blu-ray so it will have greater penetration. I am an Apple fanboy and pretty much detest MS but they are right: for the price of a PS3 you can buy a Wii and a 360 and MS is betting that's what everyone is going to do and I am going to be one of them.
I had made up my mind a LONG time ago that I was NOT going to buy a 360 and I was definitely going to buy a Revolution and a PS3 regardless but with the PS3 costing more than a Mac mini, HELL NO.
I'll get my new gen fix on Wii and next gen fix on 360 thanks.
My iBook mid-2005 model has an ATI Radeon 9550 which is just a throttled 9600. With ATIcelleratorII I get pretty decent 3D out of it (admittedly I don't play many 3D games on it, I have a PS2 and GC). The upgrade of the 9200 to Intel GMA in the mini was definitely an improvement but you're right, going from the 9550 to GMA is a downgrade in my opinion.
On top of this Nintendo plans to use the Virtual Console service to help Indy game developers. As Iwata stated, a game like Tetris would never be made today. Interesting things are happening with the Wii and not just because of the controller.

That's one of the biggest problems with the game industry: they are so insulated from reality that they can't see the obvious problem of how fucking dominated the industry is by clueless straight white boys who think everybody else is just like them.
You forgot to add "in America". You should really check out the Asian video games selection to get a better idea of how varied games can be. There's a lot more to video games than killing and blowing things up.
It went up $100. Is that quite a bit? They added built-in 802.11g+BT 2 (over having to add it), serial ATA (over parallel), 10/100/1000 ethernet (over 10/100), 2 more USB ports, 1 more memory slot, and optical audio (over just analog audio out). Not to mention I think the Intel GMA 950 is probably better than the Radeon 9200 (which sucks). I have a PowerPC mini (with the secret speed bump) and this is WAY better for the money.
will Nintendo make the same 10 games again (this time with Wii on the end)
Well, we all hope they do, because that's the reason to buy a Nintendo system: their first-party games. Everything else is just port after port after port and you can get them on any system. If Nintendo announced tomorrow it was creating a closed system that would only have first-party releases it would still sell like gangbusters. They've yet to make a bad Metroid, Zelda, Mario, etc.
With a company that has so little marketshare to begin with, they go with the largest share of the pie first, and that is the Windows market.
There's no pie for S3 in the Windows world. Period. Even if ATI and Nvidia were not offering low-end versions of their products, Intel has on-board graphics that do the job. Their best bet would have been to produce Linux drivers first and focus on them to create a product for a cost-conscious consumer and market themselves that way.
Because typically, those other console manufacturers (Nintendo, SEGA, NEC) made money on their consoles at the launch, or within a year after launch (SONY). Microsoft has NEVER made money on the original XBox, and still doesn't. There's no impetus to redesign a rat hole.
The Dreamcast went under because people found an easy way to pirate games. A week after it was discovered is when SEGA announced they were ending their hardware business (why can't Nintendo just buy that damn company already!)
Also, last time I read (a few weeks ago), XBox to this date is still only a couple hundred thousand units ahead of Gamecube in sales AND NINTENDO MAKES MONEY ON EVERY GAMECUBE AND MS LOSES MONEY ON EACH XBOX.
You're going to have to wait for the MacBook and then it's supposed to be 13" widescreen. So no ultra-portables from Apple. I wish they would have a portable that was thin and light again. My PowerBook 2400 weighed 4 and a half pounds, although the iBook G4 comes close at 5.
PowerPC Mac users have been able to overclock their ATi cards for a long time with ATIcelleratorII. The 9550 in my iBook is supposed to be the same as the 9600, only underclocked. I dunno how ATI tools work, but with ATIcellerator you can overclock both the GPU and the memory seperately.
I want my games to be fun, lazy, and distractions, not things I need to devote my life and body to
Yup, me too. And you know what? You don't have to use all the buttons on a controller to make a good game. Most PS games never even use the shoulder buttons. But then you have games like Metroid Prime on Gamecube that is a phenomenal game, and it uses 5 million damn buttons. VERY frustrating when trying to fire a missile you roll into a ball because, as stated earlier, there is no context for controller buttons.
What Nintendo is doing is forcing developers to think more about the people playing their games instead of just the graphics in a game. Better graphics have not produced better games. Look at the top ten best-selling video games of all time. They're all OLD. (BTW the top 3 are Mario games) As an enthusiastic and satisfied DS owner, I have faith Nintendo knows what they are doing, they have been in the gaming business for over 100 years!
he's saying that Nintendo seems to be emphasizing the controller itself instead of the things that Nintendo has been traditionally strong in, such as good gameplay and design
This coming from a guy that's a one-trick pony. It's also OBVIOUS that the new controller is perfect for Katamari. I don't understand the problem. What's happening is that it looks like the Revolution is going to be the best-seller in the next round of console wars. With its unique controller, it's going to be difficult to make multi-platform games. The Revolution is making XBox360 and PS3 look like just another console. Who CARES if it has HD and blah blah blah. There's yet to be anything interesting on the 360, so how is all that power translating into a great game?
Nintendo took a great risk with the DS and it's paying off big time and it's easy to see that with Revolution, Nintendo is going to once again define gaming.
the people I worked with in Microsoft [...] They had lives, had normal emotional reactions to things, and did not have a defensive/superior attitute to their knowledge.
Strange because I've read story after story about people who work for MS and it's always the same story. Microsoft IS your life.
I personally don't have enough patience to teach too many people about Linux, especially from scratch. So what do I do when someone asks me about it or wants to learn about it? I give them a whole bunch of useful e-books and related reading materal on CD and tell them to start by taking a bite out of that. I also give them a copy of whatever easy distro I have laying around and tell them to install it on a second computer and just 'play' with it. Then if they're still interested, they've got a decent enough foundation for me (ore more likely someone with more patience) to have a crack at enlightening them further.
So basically you say, "RTFM and come back when you aren't a noob."
Sometimes these questions are repeated many times but there may be a reason the questions are asked over and over again.
Because too many people who write "documentation" are actually just making notes of how they accomplished a task instead of giving directions, and then half of the people that write documentation do not write FULL documentation (i.e. if you don't know how to do this part, I'm not going to tell you, find out on your own). A lot the time when I read the man pages in Mac OS X (which are BSD) I have no idea what an option is going to do until I test it. At that point, what's the use of a manual?
With an expired ID and they refused to let me fly (Delta) without 2 other forms of ID one of them being federally issued, which I didn't have.

Probably when there's a compelling reason for professionals with a Quad G5 2.5 and 16GB of RAM to run Photoshop, InDesign/Quark non-natively.
