Arthur C Clarke wrote a short story about this (I think it's in Tales from the White Hart). The basic idea was a scientist figured out the parameters that define music and used them to determine the "ultimate song". He was eventually found turned into a drooling vegetable in his lab with headphones on, occasionally tapping a beat.
I'd love alternatives to MS Exchange, but does anyone know of a solution that would let me integrate the Blackberry Ent Server with something like OpenExchange?
But anyway, the problem I have with this book is that as you read about configuration in more detail as the book progresses, it sort of assumes you understand various MS networked file system concepts.
I think the book could definitely use either an intro chapter or at least an appendix that discusses the core concepts of SMB first. Then I could make better decisions on deployment.
Appreciation of a good or well thought out product is one thing. Blind zealotry is quite another and I see entirely too much of that in the Apple world.
Gak! Don't get me started on the Mac interface. You think Windows Find functionality is inconsistent?
How about home and end keys on the Mac! They hardly work anywhere. In Windows, any dialog text area can use the home and end keys. And if someone tells me I can turn that on by going into some options dialog someplace I'll barf. Why isn't it default behavior???
Same with the Del key. If I select a file or files, why doesn't the Del key delete them? This is basic stuff folks.

In a press release from SCO, portions of the alleged infringing code were revealed. Included was this:
i++;/* increment i by one. */
The claim is that with the optimized System V cc, this "can actually compile to a single assembly instruction" and that the resulting performance enhancements are the result of SCO intellectual property.
Supposedly use of this optimization technology are found everywhere in Linux, although the quality of the comment seems to be found only in SCO source.

Well, to be fair to the firearms I've never seen an M16 jump off the rack, run outside and start firing itself into a crowded sidewalk....
Point taken, but like it or not, guns are regulated to some extent... so clearly there is a risk these laws attempt to diminish.
It seems to me that the reason behind the lack of cooperation between the P2P Keiretsu and the likes of the RIAA is clear... 99% of the use is for illegal file sharing!
Standing behind "legitimate use" arguments while not even paying RIAA lip service exposes the smoke screen.

I suppose you've never seen any free software...
Sure I have. It was all offered free by the author(s), not by some pasty white geek who lives in his parent's basement and rips CDs.
It's not the P2P developers fault if the users of their software choose to trade illegal files...
Oh, here we go... "Guns don't kill people, people kill people!". Puuuulease, spare me!

No no! You don't understand! P2P file sharing actually increases music sales!
HA HA HA HA! [knee slap]
Sorry. I just couldn't say that with a straight face.
So you call it konspire, eh? And this helps the P2P keiretsu allay the fears of the music industry that it's not all about ripping them off how, exactly?
My 4 year old is just learning the internet. I was showing him Google (which he calls Gooooogle because of all the 'o's in the nav images) and I asked him for a search term. He came up with "crocodile sky". There were hits.
I don't want to know anyone who also searched for that. Or do I?
