You miss a key distinction here. You can say anything you want, that is freedom of speech. But if, in saying it, you also accomplish something else, and that something else is illegal, then you have broken a law that itself does not actually abridge free speech.
If I build a machine to cut off your head, and press the button when youre in it, then I have committed murder. If I tell someone to cut off your head, and know they will obey, then I have still committed murder. That my methods included some sort of speech is immaterial.
Defamation is illegal, even if you somehow manage to accomplish it without saying or printing anything. If you happen to commit the crime while speaking, then youre still breaking the law, not because your speaking, but because youre defaming (?) someone.
I purchased WoW, and played on the official servers for a year or so. But the last two times I have played have been on third party servers, and I downloaded a 'warez' copy of the game that included the first GB worth of patches.
First, "its easy to break this law and not get caught" is not a good reason to break it. If you start the next MySpace and someone ends up able to prove that you ripped off their code (and yes, its possible to do so), youre going to be hurting to the tune of a large fraction of your net worth.
Second, maybe some companies dont care if the logic is out there. I know it's optimistic, but this is the essence of open source. "Here is our code. It does something cool."
What do you mean by 'if one gets voted in'? Do you live somewhere that other homeowners can automagically include you in their HOA? If so, where? Who voted for that law? Who elected that representative? Crazy people.
My phone won't attach to more than one bluetooth device at a time. Which means that if you use this watch, you can't use other BT doodads.
Somehow he made the leap from "My phone won't attach" to "you can't use". I fail to see how the crappiness of his phone at all affects what doodads I can use.

No, it means that if YOU use this watch...
Be careful assigning your poor purchase decisions to others.
Because each option you add cuts the number of responses in half. A vast majority of users use the one-rating system. Almost no one would fill out a 20-question survey about every movie they watch.
You can already download 'ripped' versions of PSX and Neo Geo discs, with FMV cut out, so the disc images are very small. The same thing will happen for 25GB+ discs.
I regularly use the rumble feature in RPGs (Oblivion comes to mind). I will carry the (wireless) controller around the house while i do things and wait for something to happen in the game, and the rumble lets me know if I get attacked.
Maybe they don't know about the price? The vast majority of console buyers have no idea about release pricing until the unit hits a store shelf. It is a surprise on release day to them. They don't follow the industry news, and no one really advertises the prices to anyone other than hard core gamers.
WTF is up with the AMD ad that/. is running today? I have my ad blocker whitelist slashdot because I like to support the site, but when I hover over an ad that locks up my browser for 30 seconds I have serious second thoughts.
Good think you aren't in charge then. What you describe is exactly what was allowed to happen in the past, and is still the case for normal average businesses. But the rules change when your business controls a large fraction of the market. Once you have an effective monopoly you have to 'play nice' with your colleagues and competitors.
I wasn't saying anything about about the course itself. The 'wtf' is that it was among the 6 selected to be offered. In terms of popularity, average appeal, and educational usefulness, I couldn't see having music theory in any list shorter than 20 AP offerings.
For most people, a WYSIWYG word processor is exactly what they need for writing letters, reports and such like.
No, it really isn't. What they need is a text editor and a good letter/report/etc wizard/template/whatever. Giving users control of layout when they probably only want, and definitely only need, control of content is a BAD IDEA.
I envy him coming from a school system that allowed him to get 72 AP credits. My high school, and every alternative within an hours drive, offered a grand total of SIX AP courses (including Music Theory, wtf?). They required you to take the class before you could take the test. And every one of them had pre-requisites within the normal high school curriculum, making all 6 an impossible combination.
I am also a bit skeptical about getting through all of college in what amounts to, at most, 5 'layers' of prerequisites, and that would be assuming he brought in two courses worth of AP credits in a particular subject (common at most institutions, a 5 on my AP Calculus exam got me credit for Calc I and Calc II), took another level of course in the fall and spring, and then took the final one as his single 3-hour summer course. All 3 of th universities I have attended had pre-requisite trees deeper than that for almost any normal degree, and more of them than would fit in his schedule anyways.
Overrated signifies that the score of a post is too high, without giving any specific reason WHY it is too high. It is usually used to counter +1 Funny if a post is not humorous, because there is not a -1 Unfunny. 100% Overrated would indicate that at least 3 people (I think) Rated your 1, then 0, then -1 rated post as -1 Overrated, which means that the consensus of the moderators is that the post in question does not even deserve a -1, but they cannot force it lower than that.
The solution to low voter turnout is simple. Pay people to vote. $10 for everyone who shows up at the polls and fills out the ballot. $3B/yr is a pittance in the federal budget. You would have some people who just fill it out at random to get their 10 bucks, but the increase in legitimate turnout would, I think, dwarf them. I don't know anyone who wouldn't take the time to vote if it meant a free dinner or movie.
This idea originated many years ago when I realized that Bill Gates could buy the presidency simply by paying individuals $10, or electors(!) $1000000, for their votes.
Planetside is free. It works like a Korean MMO. You can actually access the entire game at no charge, but you have to pay if you want to get to the top of MULTIPLE specialties at the same time.
I once sent an e-mail to one of there "journalists" pointing out an error. I got perhaps the most childish response imaginable back. They have zero integrity and don't even appear to give two shits about the validity of the information they put out.
Yes, we all know the/. editors have problems, but that isn't relevant here.

Actually, crack/keygen groups almost unanimously do NOT distribute games. They would be offended to hear it suggested otherwise.

Yes. Why would you want to search for non-Free code? You couldn't do anything with it.

Why are you running 2579 different applications? Sounds like poor design on some OTHER developers' parts.
