All those people were proclaiming how all the Iraqi people would rise up to defend their country and this would be a long bloddy conflict...
The reality of it has been that people have been celebrating the arrival of the American and British forces...
So, they start predicting their next major set of dire consequences...
"The Iraqi people will very soon start turning against the US and British forces, since they won't be seen as liberators, but instead occupying forces...."
That's a pretty dire prediction...
I like to look on the lighter side though...
I believe that the Iraqi people, like most people, simply want to be able to freely determine how they will live their own lives. If this means that they will have to deal with a short-term, up to a year or two, of protective forces of the US and Britain assisting in keeping the peace, then they will accept that willingly.
Of course, if the war opening speech of President Bush is proven to be a lie and that the US went over there not to give Iraqi resources and freedom to the Iraqi people, but to create a colonial government with all the profits going to the US, well... Then they will start fighting the US.
The boarding school that I attended bore little resemblence to the public schools that I had also attended. The learning structure is much like the experiences that I have had since entering my career.
Except for one thing... In that school, I actually had the time to complete a taks before having another taks thrown on top of me. As it stands right now, I simply do not have the luxury of even beginning a task before another one is tossed in my lap.
Such is the woes of being THE IT, Security, Purchasing (Of everything) and Web Marketing Departments for a small prototyping stamping plant.
I had the excellent opportunity to attend a private boarding school for my sophomore year of high school. It was quite frankly the best school and time that I had had at school.
Sure, just like in public school, I fell to the bottom of the social structure, but I excelled academically while attending that school. I know that if I had the opportunity to have completed my high school education, I would be much farther ahead in life then I am now.
However, I am digressing...
While at that school, the faculty had full control over the students lives, only the students that excelled in their studies had privelages above the students that didn't excel.
For instance, everyday, we were given roughly two hours after class, prior to dinner of "free-time" where we could go where we wanted to go and do what we wanted to do.
In the evening, prior to hitting the sack, we had mandatory study time. Unless you were excelling in your studies, you were to stay in your own room and study. If you were excelling, then you had the freedom to study where you wished or do whatever other activity that you wished.
So, in my case, straight after classes, I focused on tearing through my homework. After that, I took the evening free-time to keep up with a few television shows, shoot pool with other excelling students, attend evening on campus bonfires and slurry of other activities that simply weren't available durring the after classes free-time.
If my parents had been as forceful on me, as that school was, I would have likely developed a much better study habit then I currently have and would have continued to excel in life.
As it stands, I am doing okay, but I really could be doing better.
Whistleblowers... Those wonderful people that either suddenly obtain a conscience or always have one but come in contact with materials within a corporation or government agency that speak of dubious plans or vile previous actions.
Without those people, large corporations and secret portions of government will be able to get away with many more vile acts, since they can simply "lock-up" all of the offending documents, protecting themselves from potential whistleblowers.
Then, if a whistleblower does somehow get documents out of the computers, that person could be sued out of existence via the DMCA.
I know that it would be rather impossible for the US to pull out of the Middle East region.
If we had stuck it out in Afganistan, after assisting the Afgans with defeating the USSR, they likely would have developed a better society then the one that grew up out of the desperate and economical wasteland they had been left with. The Taliban likely never would have had the ability to gain the power they had gained.
I just wish that our government hadn't given up on the doctrine that was in place at the end of WWII. If they had continued that policy in the Middle East, Afganistan could have grown into a very powerful society and a strong US ally. Instead we just barely helped them battle communism and then left them with the rotted remains of their country.
I can't blame the Taliban and people like Osama for being pissed at the US. However, their means are terribly deplorable and should never be tolerated or accepted by any people or any nation.
If you are setting up a virtual domain within this main server running WVMS, you will need at least the 50 licenses for the NT Server product in use...
The real answer and question should be, "How many CALs will one need to configure such a machine?"
That answer would depend upon how you have the machines talk to one another...
By my best MS-Reckoning...
You would need at least 50 CALs per NT License installed upon that one machine... So, in order for each instance to be able to communicate concurrently with each other instance, you would need to have 2500 CALs installed...
Then for each client machine that could potentially connect to anyone of the the single NT Instances built into that main machine you would need a CAL...
So, for every 50 users... You would have to have another 2500 CALs installed on that server...
Holy Cow! MS will rake in the entire current GDP within a few weeks of rolling out such a product! Isn't licensing great everyone?
Are less forgiving about someone messing around with somthing as important as the economy. If they were less forgiving, guys like this could run about destroying companies left and right with rumors and accusations in order to make a quick buck or two.
Osama Bin Laden declared a Jihad, also known as a Holy War on the people of the United States and their interests. To his fundamentalist friends and followers that means they must destroy the US to be "given" their place in heaven. This is their belief.
Do you have terrorist connections?
No, I have no terrorist connections. However, I do have a basic understanding of the situation and a basic understanding of Islam. I practice no religion and have no intention of practicing any religion. I do know that Osama is a man quite like David Karesh was and Osama's followers will follow him to the grave in order to fulfill their warped sense of reality.
The simple fact of the matter is that Osama Bin Laden has declared a Jihad against the United States and its interests. That man has a large following of fundamentalists that believe in his words and will stop at nothing to carry out this 'Holy War' against a people that generally enjoy a peaceful existence.
Granted, this was brought on by years upon years of terrible foreign policy and a reliance on oil products. If we could have sworn off oil decades ago, we likely wouldn't be experiencing the terrible reality that we are experiencing now.
When before in history has a group allying itself with no country just their religous beliefs gone to such lengths to murder and cause mass destruction?
Your statements make it seem as though you think it is alright that they committed those acts of murder. Furthermore, like its okay for a fundamentalist religous group to target and murder a nation of people simply because of the policies of a government body that most of those people disagree with.
All of this disagreeing, leading to mass murder crap is getting the human race nowhere. We all generally have the same needs. We all generally laugh the same, cry the same and bleed the same.
The wholesale slaughter of any people, regardless of the reasons, is never justified.
Really? Never been done before? I'm sure the people in Europe and Israel will be pleased to know that terrorist are just now starting to target innocent civillians in ways that cause increasing casualties and fear. The only remarkable things about the September 11 attacks were that A) The scale of damage was more than even they had planned, due to the towers collapsing, and B) it was a rare attack on US soil, whereas before we'd been able to get complacent due to the fact that most targets were "US interests overseas."
The scale of the attacks is one thing that hadn't been seen, really since the attack on Pearl Harbor durring WWII. These attacks were carried out by foreign nationals at incredible distance from their countries of origin. Other then the previous World Trade Center bombing and the events at one of the 1970's Olympic Games, I have not personally heard of such great lengths being made to perpetrate murder on such a scale.
...in the article. Adding that to the "teaser" about the article paints the request in a discriminatory fashion. From what I read it is asking for information about ALL passengers on Trans-Atlantic flights.
Sure, this can be seen as an invasion of privacy. While this is terrible and unfortunate, the fact of the matter is there currently exists some very terrible, murderous people in this world that are willing to do things that have never really been done before, in order to accomplish their task of murder.
I dislike the facts of this modern reality just as much as the next person. Unfortunately, there isn't much that the US Government can do to protect its citizens (which is a big component of government) and preserve the way life has been.
There simply is no other way to rectify this issue. Even if the US pulled out of the Middle East and swore off the oil habit and simply ceased dealing with that part of the world. The minds behind these murderous fundamentalists would not change. They would still plan their assaults and still carry out what they are able to carry out.
Living in this day and age is simple one of those most frustrating of times to live in.
Only God knows how many services are running on a Windows Server. The system administrators surely never do. You know why? They aren't God.
However, on a *NIX based system, the Admin is actually equal to God on that server. Allowing that on Windows would defeat Microsoft's purpose of having control of everything.
Anyway, 600Mhz, would be much more then fine for a Linux desktop/laptop system. Heck, it would even be good as a server. As a good "for instance", I have a PII 350 with a 32MB TNT2 video card with the Accelerated 3D graphics drivers from Nvidia. I tell you, it's not the fastest, but it is able to run an Open Source game called "Racer!" pretty well.
You should see the graphics and the tectures in this game. The detail that was done to the vehicle models is very impressive. I can honestly say that under Windows, you would need a machine at least twice as fast to be able to display the graphics this game displays under Linux.
Would unfortunately go out of business before getting to start on the Windows port of their game. While there are a large number of Linux users out there, there simply isn't the same number of Linux gamers as there are Windows Gamers.
Game support under Linux is unfortunately sub-par. From the feel of games like Quake III to the lateness of games arriving, like NWN. It isn't always the developers fault. There just aren't all that many great and very powerful game development API kits available on Linux that are as robust as the ones available on Windows.
Part of that is the lackluster Linux gaming community. If the Linux Gaming Community took it upon itself to buy the Linux versions of games released by Loki, instead of whining about the games Loki released, or simply whining about how no publishers are releasing Linux games. Well, Loki would probably still be in business (Even with the bad book-keeping I had read something about...) and perhaps a few more companies would be out there supporting Linux games and producing Linux games.
If some company announced that they were releasing a game for Linux, even if it isn't something I generally like to play, I would buy it. Simply because I wish to see Linux move into the home entertainment realm, instead of conceding that segment of computing to Microsoft.
That's really smart, considering that most of the problems that PCs are brought in for repairs are due to the OS and software installed on the Hard disk you just suggested get swapped with an old disc.
The better thing to do would be to keep all your sensitive data on another disk and remove that from your computer.
However, if you knew how to do that, it is very likely that you would already know how to fix your computer yourself... Since you likely built it yourself.
That you are using out of date tax code for your city/state? That's not a very wise thing to do, unless there is some method of manually updating that information and you perfectly update the tax codes and tax forms in your Quickbooks 99 software.
If you were looking to do business as an account for my company and I found out that you weren't using the updates to keep your tax code information up to date, you wouldn't be my accountant.
Bicentenial Man, at first, I had thought the movie would be another Robin Williams acting like a crazy entertainer, ala Rainbow Rudolph (Death to Smootchy) or Mork.
However, he provided, in my opinion, one of his best performances ever. Whenever I get the chance to see that film, I take it. The story of his character evolving into something much more then what he was before is unbelievably heart-warming.
It shows that to be human is far more then simply being born as a human. It is a collection of thoughts, emotions and self-determination.
I have to rank Bicentenial Man up there as one of the greatest of Hollywood films. Which is typically the case for true cerebral/philosophical films about humanity.
I am unable to recomend this film enough. If you watched Star Trek:TNG and liked the character of Data, then you will seriously enjoy this film. If you despised Data (and Star Trek in general) avoid this film as it covers humanity and the trappings of humanity, there are no crazy action sequences.
I don't know of any homeless shelters with Chopsticks and Asian cooking... Let alone Beer, although some, if not most homeless might be able to sneak a few brews in...
You can do both with buying Stock. For instance, I believe in the company that I own shares in. However, I don't necesarily believe in the companies that are part of my mutual fund portfolio.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that the company I own individual shares in has some sweet technology that could take the sector by storm and reap great profits for me.
Of course, if they tank... They tank. It would seriously suck, but I didn't dump my life's savins into them. So, recovering from such a loss wouldn't take me forever.
Greed, pure and simple. From what I understand only ATMs in the US charge ATM fees. Those fees are also applied ONLY to US Cardholders of US Banks.
It is one of the biggest rackets ever created. I understand that the banks in Europe considered such a thing and the people over there rebelled at the thought of having to pay for a service that is normally provided for "free" (Albiet only during "Banker's" hours.)
These cars do not need to be plugged into anything. They are charged by the gas motor, which is running all of the time, the electric motor only kicks in for acceleration and bursts of speed.
The only issue you would have is that eventually, the batteries would need to be changed. However, they will last for quite a few years and by the time they need to be replaced. They would hopefully be produced in such quantities as to be rather inexpensive.
The gas motor is running continually while the electric motor kicks in only for bursts of speed and acceleration.
If the gas motor simply powered the batteries, the system would still require some kind of charge in order to keep the power level up. Plus, the car would weigh quite a bit more, since it would need to carry a significantly higher number of batteries. The car would also have a much lower top speed as well.
Just read this dictionary definition of a Republic.
By saying that the US has a Representative Democracy, you are saying that we have a Republic form of government. It means the same thing.
However, you cannot say that we live in a Democracy, as a true Democracy is one in which every law is put to a vote by ALL of the people, not just representatives of the people. If you are going to use Democracy to explain the United States form of government it simply must be preceded with Representative or another word with a similar meaning.
As for your comment about a single source... Isn't that what you are doing? By the way, that is not anecdotal evidence. Did you bother to read the previous link that I send to you?
Learning in school that we are a Republic... In fact, there was something that we did every morning to reinforce that...
"...and to the Republic, for which it stands..."
Are you saying that the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong?
Should it say, "...and to the Representative Democracy, for which it stands..."?
Check the following link, it leads to a site that will explain our form of government to you in elementary terms. You should take a few more politcal science classes before you start talking about government, my friend.

If you let one fish get away simply because it is a small fish, other small fish will begin to do what the first one did.
In time, you would be so surrounded by little fish that you wouldn't be able to breath.
Hence the reason that the SEC and FCC go after 'em no matter how small or large they might be.
