The original LocationFree TV had 5 different bandwidth modes available. Without at least 300-500k upload speed at the video source, the video was pretty choppy and the audio sounded like it was coming out of a tin can. Although, speeds in my area have been increasing lately... Upload speeds of 512K-1MB are not unheard of for about 50-70 bucks a month... Live tv is cool, beats having all the encoding time and the time to transfer the vids over to the portable device (whether it's a psp, video ipod, pocket pc, whatever)
A techinique I have been using for almost 2 years is to Write a few sentences on a sticky note close to my workstation. Each sentence describes a time in my life, i.e. "I used to ride my bike after elementary school", "I watched Star Trek after I returned from Classes at College", etc. Maybe I'm just weird, but I remember the street numbers of all the places I've lived, so I use those numbers to form my password. If this seems to cryptic here is an example.
Rode bike around block after elementary school = 1234 Adam St. Watched Star Trek after College = 493 Jones Ave. Let son mow yard for the first time = 3009 George Lane
My password for this postit note would be: "12344933009"
I am able to remember a 19 digit numeric password very easily by using this method (even without the postit hint)
Most heavily certified techs I've met have read the books, and taken the tests without any practical knowledge... They are surrounded by papers with their names Embossed between either a Microsoft or A+ Logo, and usually can't troubleshoot their way out of a paper bag. When hiring I pay no attention to certifications, but ask open-ended questions that give me insight to how the applicant would react... I never knew that the certification process spent so much time covering System Restore and System Recoveries....
changing the 3 to a 2 in the url (http://www.start.com/2/default.aspx) shows another version of the page that looks strikingly similar to the google personalized homepage... including adding IE favorites to the page, as well as other "incubation experiments" i.e. Google Lab(ish), see http://sandbox.msn.com/.

The only reason Microsoft even gave Apple that cash injection was to try to save their(Microsofts) ass in court, when they were being sued by the government for monopolistic activity.
After Voyager and Enterprise, the only way Star Trek could be brought back as a fresh and viable franchise is if Spock placed his hand on the left side of Rick Berman's face and said, "Remember...". Thereby, infusing his soul into Rick Berman. Creative thought seems to have left Rick Berman's head!
There is still money to be made as the franshise digs itself even deeper into the ground, but my vote would be for no new series or movies for at least 5-10 years.
For my web site, I found that the easiest content management system is Pivot. A friend has also set up a site where his parents can post directly to his web site... It's "grandma proof" (once set up) and easy to maintain..
With the amount of local banks in my local area that are using unsecured (non-WEP) protected wireless access points on their local LAN, I wonder how long it will take for a RDC that tells the ATM to spit out money?
There are security updates that take months for companies to patch on their local servers & workstations... how will a known security vunerability be fixed on a "stripped" version of 2K or NT in an ATM, and how long do you think it will take them to impliment these updates, if they can update them at all?
I have seen quite a few "near perfect" rips online that have the phrase "For Your Consideration" every 20 minutes or so... It is not only the "insiders" that are leaking these movies, but the people that they send them to, i.e. Academy Awards, Oscars, etc. If the industry deems it appropriate to send a perfect digital copy on DVD to independent reviewers and expect it to stay "in-house" they've got a lot of learning to do. I guess it's not fair to expect a movie reviewer to have to sit through [cough] a VHS copy without 5.1 surround sound, but that's their perogitave... The way things are now, movies will go the way of MP3's, it's almost inevitable.
I felt the same way after seeing the first film in the theatre, but I gave it another shot when the extended version came out on DVD... I watched it and then watched the extended version of the Two Towers... I enjoyed the 2nd movie much more than the first, but having never read the books, the history and background the first movie provides helped me enjoy the 2nd movie that much more.....
The point... There is no point... Next.
Hope their keyboards are better than their web servers! Even mirrordot didn't catch a good mirror of the images. bummer...

A friend sent me this link to the Mount St. Helens Volcano Cam, updated every 5 minutes from the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

Obviously, a bad attempt at humor. I know it's a givaway... Ingest the carbs, suck down the aspartame, feel the burn!
-I'd like a #2 with a Diet Coke... Supersize and 2 iTunes tracks please.
-That'll be $4.59 for the meal, and $2.00 for the music, please drive-thru.
-Sweeeet!
No computer is complete without the best free open source video editing program... Virtual Dub is simply, awesome!
Drop the CD in your OS X machine, and rip the "Audio CD" mounted image... Just ignore the other one.... Tested and confirmed.
