The meters form a mesh network. If your meter cannot be read directly, it will be asked for and read from one of your neighbor's meters that can be reached. Providing a nice map to anybody who cares to decode it of your commings and goings about your house.
This is an issue of making surveillance easier and this should hardly come as a surprise because a Communist country is entirely dependent upon controlling its citizens through the use of surveillance.
Does that make the US a communist country then as well?
Actually I miss my old BB as it was a good phone and gave me email. It may be a smart phone, but it never had the apps that the Google and Apple offerings have. I haven't used a BB in a couple of years now so I have no idea what they are like now. I will be checking them out though on my next phone purchase as I do not want another Android or Apple phone.
Perhaps age has something to do with it, but I really need the phone functionality to do my job. It seems that every time I need to make a phone call with my Google phone, I have no battery left. They just don't keep a charge for any length of time and woe to you if you actually want to run apps on it. At any point in time, if I take a glance around the office, I will see virtually all of my colleagues at their desks with their phones permanently plugged into an outlet.
Agreed. There are no "smart phones" that provide decent telephony function. Basic phone is one of the worst aspects of these devices an afterthought really. Anybody saying they won't be running many apps should consider just a basic phone and not one of these. I hate my Google phone it sucks. I have a Galaxy Tab though that I use often and I enjoy using the android platform. I bought the device and never installed the SIM. I don't need the SIM as there is no phone functionality on this device. I use it on wifi. It has a bigger screen than my Milestone and gets better battery life.
The system has been in Quebec for several months now. They are using it mostly to find folks who haven't paid their drivers registration. They say they will not use it to find folks with outstanding tickets. The traffic divisions get all the big bucks. It's a real cash cow for the government. It was all over the news here though so there was nothing to really uncover. You can see the equipment and every once in a while I see a provincial car cruising slowly along the shoulder of the road with an array of equipment bolted to the roof scanning. Over here as far as I know though it's not used by local police yet.
I drive a pickup truck. I have no problem turning around to look behind me on the right hand side. When I turn around to look on the left hand side though, the shoulder strap obscures my view. I always wear my seatbelt except when I'm backing up, because I'm more concerned with hitting someone or something behind me than I am about being thrown from the vehicule. How fast do you drive in reverse anyways to not feel safe backing up unless you are wearing your seatbelt? Big difference between I-85 and your own driveway don't you think?
In Canada at least, since they've had code free licenses there as actually been an increase of folks interested in obtaining their cw certification. While you may not need it to operate at home, there are still plenty of countries that do require cw and if you want to operate there, then you'll still need it.

WTF is wrong with the Slashdot UI? Comment threads are impossible to follow. Click to expand a comment and the screen jumps around to anywhere but the thread you are trying to follow. It's been doing this for what seems like a few weeks now and it has become tiresome in the extreme.
As long as it's not me typing the SMS, yes it would be cool. That seems like elementary common sense no? It's user unfriendly to require that a user give an app blanket permissions with no specifics.
Nope they do it in Canada like that as well, unless you pay extra for the texting plan. It was even advertised as such. "If you don't buy a texting plan, you'll pay for each SMS you recieve"
They are all consumer phones with nothing serious for business use. Motorola and Samsung are crying because the corporate world doesn't want to keep it's calendars and contacts on Googles servers. They've made their bed now they can lie in it. They will have to diverge significantly from the Google kool-aid in order to implement anything workable for business. Android phone users are consumers just like Apple phone users are. You must be new here, if you think this post is more biased than any other post.
This is Slashdot. What is this article of which you speak? (-;
So from the Article, (thank you for quoting it) they appear to say that Toyota Vehicles are involved in a full third of all unintended acceleration reports, with the other two thirds spread out amongst all the other manufacturers? That's what the quote seems to imply.
I think they meant first madam (-;

Why do you need to keep your teeth clean to play the harmonica does it affect the tone? Just curious.
