    Are you thinking of some other novel? They certainly did use a Shuttle in Titan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_(Stephen_Baxter). There's even a Shuttle on the cover! (except the cover illustration looks a bit more like the Soviet Buran to me...)

    Also, it was published years before the Columbia tragedy. Regardless, it's recommended reading :-)

    Also, as in Titan, maybe they should use an old Shuttle to get there. Who wants to spend 6 months in a cramped Apollo-like capsule?

    Well, P&S digital camera owners, for the most part, didn't buy their cameras to practice the art of photography. They bought them to take simple snapshots of their friends and family.

    They should have bought the Buran shuttle plans from the Russians. It was technically superior to the US shuttle (at least on paper), but the project was canceled after the USSR collapsed. Its one unmanned orbital test flight went flawlessly. Hell, the US should have bought the plans after the collapse. I'm sure they would have yielded some insights on improvements we could have made to our shuttle program...

    Was it flown by Dr. Rockso? Rock and roll clowns are usually too busy partying to learn to fly. A more likely scenario: the party in the passenger cabin got out of hand and someone (possibly Dr. Rockso himself) fell thru the cockpit door and landed on the FUEL DUMP button.

    I hope Toki wasn't on that flight. At least it's unlikely the whole band was, since they can't stand that stupid assclown.
