  1. Re:Bug or User error? on History's Worst Software Bugs · · Score: 1
What the doctors don't realize is that the Multidata software gives different answers in this configuration depending on how the hole is drawn: draw it in one direction and the correct dose is calculated, draw in another direction and the software recommends twice the necessary exposure.
Emphasis mine... but that sounds like a software bug to me. Doesn't matter that only 4 shielding blocks were allowed. That's a limitation. The argument of whether or not a "work-around" as used by the doctors should have been allowed by the software in the first place is not the issue here. The issue is that drawing the same thing in 2 different directions causes 2 different results.

Doesn't compromise security MY ASS! What about that little "feature" where any file name starting with $sys$ is hidden from the user? I can do that right now with some sort of keyboard snooper if I wanted to.

I can see it now... my boss goes to log in, but first I intercept him: "Hey boss, I bought you this CD... give it a listen, I'll wait"

That's 417 street lamps per acre, or one for every three feet of your 60 miles of road.

You do realize this entire location is underground? One lamp every 3 feet on the roads would probably be good enough to keep the road visible, especially if they're sodium vapor (vapour, in the spirit of the article) lamps. Seeing as there are lots of tunnels, there's probably 1 lamp per 6' on each side.

On the contrary, I think that there comes a point where you have to make some fundamental changes to the controller setup before certain types of gameplay can be realized in a fun and worthwhile fashion. How many people would be playing Dance Dance Revolution if it had never been paired with a "dance mat" controller?

Hell, I don't even play DDR (I'm terrible at it), but I've helped build 4 standalone arcade-style controllers for it for a friend. Its even better then on a little plastic mat. They would have "Drunken DDR" parties and such (I was just there for the "drunken" part) and piss off the neighbors. People who didn't even play video games normally would be there, having a great time.

I find that taking some time with a co-worker (different department, but still a software geek like myself) helps work out details or shed light on new solutions. Most often, that takes place at a nearby restaurant.

We, being engineers, came up with a truely well-written mission and vision we all could agree on, since we're the who have to uphold it. It was subsequently butchered by the boss because it didn't contain said buzzwords.
