  1. Who Wants To Pirate Disney Music? on Disney Blames Apple For Music Piracy · · Score: 1

Man, So now Eisner is worried about kids pirating his music? Hell, when I was old enough to like music Disney made I was trying to figure out where in the world Carmon San Diego was on my Apple 2.

But, anywho. Eisner is the head of one of the worlds largest media companies and he is simply trying to play the same game that the rest of the RIAA and MPAA tools are playing.

I'm starting to get quite sick of all of this garbage personally. These guys can't grasp the concept of change. They are fighting to maintain the industry in the same state that is has been for the past 60 years. It IS possible to develop sociological solutions that would benefit artists and the concept of "free" music. However short-term profits seem to be clouding the minds of these media executives.

Copy protection and all but banning the MP3 media format on one's desktop computer is not the way to go about things. It just annoys people like me because I am forced to buy non-standards compliment disks that don't play in my GD car or my computer at home (and I am a college student, so my computer IS my stereo at home, just like everyone else that I know).

A totally new business model is needed for the record industry. However hell will probably freeze over before I see one of these multi-idiot run media corporations use any part of their business degree brains that is the least bit creative.

Errr. I need to win the lotto and start a lable :)

I personally think Mr. Jones' soft-money-funded-self should be looked at like "product." I mean, lets get real here, I imagine any republican, democrat, or republicrat running for the governor of California is going to have his fare share of corporate interests residing in his political rectum. By electing someone like Mr. Jones' I can guarantee you that my tax dollars are going to purchase something crappy.

God I hate politicians. I think slashdot readers should pool geek salaries in order to buy a big island that was only run by geeks. Breading could be a problem though, every other person would be goofy looking and sterile from caffeine.

  11. That's not to bright on Apple Delays QuickTime 6 Over Proposed MPEG-4 Licenses · · Score: 1

The whole point of MPEG 4 is that it is dyamic (you can pick you codec combos like .MOV) media format for the web that is going to work in any media player.

This means web developers like me will no longer have to write scripts that alow people to select their media player of choice (and most people on the web don't even know what a media player is). As long as they have SOME sort of recent media player MPEG 4 should play.... at least that is the idea behind it.

this thing really needs a good licence that is not going to force users to pay. It will never get adopted is users have to pay 2 cents and hour. We NEED a standard like this for the web. Could you imagine where we would be if HTTP, FTP, etc never got adopted as standards and websites worked like Windows Media, Real Video, or QuickTime Movies.... it would be hell. the web would not be as big as it is...for sure.

  12. Re:What?!? on WinInformant Says Windows More Secure Than Linux · · Score: 1, Insightful

Let's just put it this way. More people use windows, more people want to exploit windows... and at the very least, from a social perspective, windows is bound to be less secure.

This last year the window community has really taken quite the widespread beating with viri (as usual). The linux community has not. Less people use linux, less people know what to do with linux, less people hate linux, less people wish to exploit it, and therefore less people are going to screw with it.

No operating system is perfect and or totally secure, however the more you scrutinize something the more apparent its flaws become. The Windows operating system has a hell of a lot more people looking at it under the micro scope...and that's an understatement. This, along with geek loathing and common software variables, is the reason why windows is less secure. The widespread common viri are just the result of all of this BS, and in my mind they totally prove that Windows is less secure. This is the same argument that us Mac diehards have been spitting out for years.

The original iMacs looked very cool, but they had a loud style to them... and loud styles don't last forever. If they did my pants would still be pegged and sporting a hyper color t-shirt. The old iMac's style was soooooo 1998. ;)

But seriously now. Go back in time 5 years ago and walk into an IKEA or something. The furniture really fit what what the iMac was going for. Everything was plastic, translucent, bright colored, and oddly shaped. Now furniture seems to be sharp, simple, solid, and not brightly colored. It's what's in style now... and Apple's new product designs seem to fit into this style well.

As much as you may have liked the style of the old iMac, I know it is something we are all going to have a good laugh at 30 years down the line. That's how style works.

But enough about "how stuff looks." As for what you said about the new iMacs in schools and whatnot....
When I first saw that thing, the first thing that came to my mind was "this would be great for consoles." People WILL make console stands for these this. Trust me. There were a million of the damn things for the first iMac. Perhaps they could fit in a glass case with the monitor fitted flush on the top.

As for schools. Well, the new iMac comes with a lock slot in the back... just like every other damn computer in the world. No one is going to jack the thing unless they was to start hacking away at metal cables tied to desks.
