Honestly, giving at least one half of one sh*t doesn't take any effort at all:). No one it telling you to get beat by the police with a picket sign. Read a book or something. Try "Stupid White Men"... a book that was just #1 at amazon and the NY times for quite sometime.

No doubt, from a geekie point of view OS X is bomb biggity. *nix geeks that knock it obviously have not spent much time with it.
However OS X still needs a lot of work. The lack of 2d hardware acceleration and goofy GUI are just about the worst things in the world for anyone deep into profesional print, web or multimedia design. OS X is also not the quickest OS in the world right now.
I pray to god Apple will fix some of this stuff soon, otherwise I will be forced to do multimedia work on a Windows box. Hell will have offcially frozen the f'k over.
Ya see, at least with TV and radio people are forced to give a disclaimer via a fast talking guy at the end of an ad or small small white text at the bottom of the scean.
Ya know... like when that Paxel ad tells you that the pills will make you happy but your going to need to eat a box of Grape Nuts a day to fend off pharmaceutically induced constipation;)
I've yet to see one of those "punch the money, and win 20bucks" ad banners tell me that I'm really NOT going to get 20bucks after I click on the GD monkey.
Ad banners like that should have a dislaimer on them. ie Punching monkey may not result in the accumulation of $20. Punching money may cause sexual side effects, dry mouth, anal leakage and or the inability to control it.

I think there should be a serious push for legislation that attempts to prevent deceptive advertisement on the web. There are ways in which this could reasonably be done without intruding upon global boundaries and 1st amendment rights.
If car companies are not allowed to flash "YOU WON A PRIZE... come here to get it" on my TV, why should US companies be allowed to do this BS with web banners.
I totally agree with you. The linux community seems to be clouded with arrogant geeks and a "holier then 'thou" attitude. This stuff needs to go. This superiority complex is incredibly annoying and something that leads to ignorance.

Actually, FireWire does come with most PCs now. There are a ton of FireWire devices in the market now and 99.99% of all DV cameras come with FireWire... the need to start adopting FireWire in the wintel world is obviouse.
Moreover, IEEE1394b brings "FireWire" up to 800 and 1600megabits per second with support for 100foot optical cable this year. In 2003 it will be revised on more time to hit 3.2gigbits per second. (all backwards compatable of course).
USB 2 is nice, but it is quite easy to see that FireWire is a better solution. It's faster, it is starting to support longer cables, it has more devices for it, etc etc.
Visit MacAddict.com's forums. Lots of "nice" mac users hang out their.

hehe, that artical about the CBDTPA being for "consumers" is simply (one of) the largest piles of garbage I have heard in a while. Apparently, we are not being allowed to get access to "high quality" content because we we don't have something such as the CBDTPA in place. ROFL... are you KIDDING me?! I can spout off at least 3 real reasons why high quality content might be being held back. One of those reasons is Microsoft, the second is also Microsoft, and the third is the lack of support and adoption of more web standards.
Censoring and corporatizing the web like the television is NOT the answer. For christ sake... look at what a pile of crap TV is (with the exception of The Simpsons and Adult Swim).
What really scares me is that these corporations will probably get their way eventually. They are big, powerful, and they have done it before... time and time again. Heck, some of these guys have gotten the US to invade and occupy freek'n countries... what chance does the little 'ol web stand.
I have a feeling that it is going to get a lot worse then having to cut VeriSign a check for your chunk of cyber space... a lot worse. We need to get some legitimate campaign finance reform to stop these stupid old white men from giving soft money to the people that can make this type of garbage "legal".
The latest version of Quicktime SS can dush out MPEG 4 streams, which is the coolest.
No doubt, MPEG 4 licences are kind of screwing up the adoption of this media format with clients. However if the licence does get fixed (please please please), a lot of web developers are going to start moving toward MPEG 4 only content. I for one know that I will only use MPEG 4 on my future sites if the licence gets fixed.
MPEG 4 is going to put an end to a lot of player and platform specific BS that has plagued the 'net-video-media market for the last few years.
Moreover, something such as Darwin SS is going to be invaluable if people start using MPEG 4. It is free, open source, portable, and apparently better then Microsoft and Real's software.
But hey, at the very least you could use DSS to start up an MP3 radio station today;).
First if all, QuickTime 6 is not even out yet. Second, Apple could care less about DRM. As a matter of fact they are pushing open standards and the ability to use media as you see fit. Unlike Microsoft. Br> Hell, look at the iPod and iTunes. Apple dished those out with a sticker that says "be good"... otherwise... pirate away;).
Fuuuurthermore. Quicktime 6 is not going to be very different from QuickTime 5. It is basically the same player with support for things like MPEG 4, Flash 5, etc.

I am well aware that there were many different native american nations, each with there own culture and location. However when these people first came over that ice bridge years ago they did not travel as a slew of different nations. At one point in time there was group of immigrants that, more or less, started it all.
Moreover, many scientist no believe that traveling over the old ice bridge helped to kill off any bacteria that had been residing on that particular group of humans (too cold for it to exist). Therefore, by the time they had arrived on the american content they were actually healthier people.
Consequently, when the Europeans came over many years later, they brought back bacteria that the "native" americans had not had a chance to live with in years (since they had more or less been through a arctic decontamination years ago) . Many indian nations died off from disease. Many other fled there dying tribes to escape disease, hence bringing it to other tribes. Tribes that may have never even seen a white man.
Slavery was also a death sentence for native american nations. Europeans enslaved natives, put them in mines, worked them until the died, and replaced them with other indians afterwards. Furthermore, after slavery began to become a big no-no, vagrancy laws were passed, jailing and bonding out all "non working" indians to land owners and whatnot.
Things such as booze and Christianity also helped to contribute to the deaths of many innocent people. Culture shock was a big murderer as well.
As for the "violent" nations you have talked about. From what I have read (and I have read a LOT on this subject... am a Sociology and an Anthropology major), there were not many aggressive tribes. The only nations typically that did become aggressive were the big ones...ie the aztecs. Most nations were too small for violence to really make make sense. Empowering women was also quite a big factor as well.... but that it another post in its own... you'll just have to take my word right now... I've got to get back to making web sites;).
It would seem to me that the "Native Americans" were the ones to first "discover" America.
Moreover, they also peacefully inhabited the land and had a continental population that was close to that of Europe around 19th century. But we killed most of them, so they don't count right? At least they can live in slums and on their native casinos now.
