    What's sadder is that people who are not even Joe Sixpack will keep using whatever is plopped in front of them. Almost all of my fellow geeks at work *know* that there are alternate browsers, *know* about tabbed browsing and popup blocking, but they will still continue using IE just because it's there.

    Google News already partners with NY Times to allow NY Times articles to show up on their site. If you click a NY Times link on Google News, it shows up as a special NY Times "partner". So, on one hand, they want to get googled to generate traffic, on the other hand, they blame google for caching. Where do you draw the line?

    Microsoft is taking legal measures because spammers cost them time and money with their Hotmail and MSN ventures.
    What I would really like to know is how a new MSN/Hotmail account can get spammed *without* me giving out the address even once. Tell me that Microsoft isn't part of the spam party.

    In that case, how would you handle the problem when /path/to/perl/module.pm has multiple versions available? You would happily install your RPM expecting version 1.0 of the perl module while what's actually present is 2.0. Isn't the package manager supposed to avoid such situations?

    Unless they start using the MAC to identify you, that is, they don't let you log on with a different MAC. The ability to save games may be linked to your MAC.

    Yes, they are going to put it in the payload, probably during the handshake. As for people who don't connect using an ethernet interface, they'll probably resort to using some sort of hash to generate a unique identifier for your system.
    I guess they're relying on the fact that majority of people who do connect to them are broadband users. Hard core network gaming doesn't make much sense without broadband anyway

    Doesn't cable maintain a and mapping? Doesn't it mean that my routing is done on the cable providers LAN using the MAC address of my cable modem, and NOT the mac address of my NIC? Also, there's no easy way to change the MAC address of my cable modem, and even if I could, I would lose my connectivity immediately since the cable co. uses my modem's MAC to identify me.

    Just wondering... Isn't MS Word 10.0 the MS Word that runs on Mac OS X and not Office XP? If she already had Word on Mac, why did she have to switch to XP for it, like she claims she did?

    I assume RAMBUS is RAM that is either shaped like a bus, or is a busload of RAM; DDRRAM is as big as my wife's breasts; and EDO RAM is the main memory type of Edo Japan.
