You are forgetting the most important thing about SMB3 on GBA. It has new levels.
But you need the E-Reader AND special cards to get them. Good luck with that one (maybe the levels are in the cartridge already, and the cards just unlock them. So a game shark may do the trick).
Elektroplankton was critically acclaimed in Japan, but it didn't sell well.
So, if a quirky japanese game doesn't do well in Japan, it has no hope on the US. I don't like the idea of the game being only available online, but, hey, it is better than nothing.
The fact is, that the market of people who will buy the $230 version is very attractive. They are idiots, they have the money, and already proved that they have no idea what to do with it. So, directing marketing to them is intelligent:D
Well. ok, but at least tell them to just defend themselves, not to go around conquering those who were not wise enough to be born selected by their god.
I think that your player's choice point is on the mark, but the rest it is not. Also, Nintendo doesn't put every title into player's choice after some months. Only first party titles and some third party titles make it into player's choice.
And Sony and Microsoft also have their own equivalent programs (platinum titles for the playstation, and I don't know what for the Xbox). And some games in player's choice aren't so cheap either, the main offender is the great game Super Smash Brothers Melee, which has been at $30 dollars as a player's choice game, when most of the games are $20 or $25.
In fact, Nintendo even promoted rental. Starfox Assault was released for blockbuster rental a week or so before it arrived to retail. This move backfired, because a lot of people rented it, and didn't liked the game (as it is not a very good game), and never buyed it. I don't know what NOA was thinking when they did this.
What? since I played DOA on the Playstation and Dreamcast, I only saw a button masher. You learn a good combination or two, and spam your adversary, hoping he doesn't counter. This was so noticeable, that I, as a total newbie on 3D fighters, could win around 45% of the rounds just doing this, against my friend, the owner of the game, who had been practicing for weeks before.
If a guy who knows nothing and a guy who does, have more or less the same chance of winning, both of them are just playing a glorified coin toss. DOA is a pointless game. I guess that, if you dedicate your life and soul to the game, you can punish button mashers, but the amount of knowledge necessary for this is too high to make it worthy.
Yes, the graphics are pretty, the girls are gorgeous, and the destructible scenary is interesting, but the gameplay is bad. Period. This is why they did DOA Xtreme Volleyball, because that way they could capitalize what they did best (pretty girls and graphics) and hide their horrible gameplay.
That said, I haven't played Ninja Gaiden. But seeing that another post around points that Itagaki it is just copying ideas from other games and claiming they are his, I don't have too much faith on it.
Given the growth in broadband adoption, and the fact that the 360 will be very expensive. Almost every person who pays the "good" bundle, has enough acquisitive power to keep an internet connection at home.
Then it only takes good marketing to make them connect their Xboxes to the Internet.
Yeah, but sadly, neither of the Sonic Adventure games are better than Sonic 1 or 2. In fact, Sonic Adventure 2 is not good at all. And while Super Mario Sunshine is a good game, it can't hold a candle to the genius of Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World.
I'm not much for racing games, but isn't Counter Strike all about terrorists and counter-terrorists?
To paraphrase an old EA slogan
If it's not in the game, is not in the game
Counter Strike never tells you about the motivations of their characters, to a larger extent than "they want to blow up the place!". Your assumptions about the backstory are meaningless in this discussion, because you can write all the Counter Strike fanfiction, or study a lot about the terrorism situation, but all that info is not in the game.
And a career mode doesn't help either. It is not the same thing as character development.
I forgot to say, that what should be standard in all games, is good gameplay. Sadly, this is not true.
(hey, the If it's not in the game, is not in the game phrase is mine. You readed here first).
I disagree with your last statement completely. I went over 4 years before I upgraded my PC. Yes, the only reason why I upgraded was to play the newest games. But as long as the upgrade price is where the price/benefit curve starts to bend upwards, you can still get a good four years or so out of that system. Even then, the cost of upgrading to support new games can still be substantially less than a console + accessories as long as you upgrade the right components.
Yes, but, when you buy a new gaming level PC, you spend $500 and upwards. Maybe $500 is not even enough. When you upgrade your console (at least before this gen, with the $400 Xbox 360) you spend around $300, maybe less.
And you have to know what components to buy in the first place, to be able to upgrade your pc at all after 3 years. Maybe you cannot upgrade your processor because the sockets changed, or memory. If I buy an AGP motherboard today, will I be able to buy a good video card in 2008? or I have to go PCI-Express? You have to be a lot more tech savvy to be a pc gamer, and you end up spending more, no matter what.

True. Silent Hill on the Playstation has been the scaries thing I ever played. To this day, I still hate the fucking static on radios.
It is not baiting. Gabe NEVER asked Jack to call back. Including contact information in your sig isn't a crime.
If the mail said "Hey Jack, call me up so we can talk directly", well, you would have a point. But, apparently, he didn't.
The fact is, that the market of people who will buy the $230 version is very attractive. They are idiots, they have the money, and already proved that they have no idea what to do with it. So, directing marketing to them is intelligent :D
You may be right, but I don't see the windows registry as "easy to use".
MS stopped producing them. Keep that in mind.
Like they did with the original Xbox, when they fell on a large pile of NEGATIVE money?
As to install a virus manually!
Hey, Microsoft just sent me a security update! Nifty!
Nintendo has stated that you will be able to create different profiles to work with WEP or WPA, so it should be no problem.
I don't see why trolls attack a product they haven't tested yet.
What? Mario Kart DS will be compatible with plain old wifi.
The USB dongle is just a bridge for people who don't have or cannot set up a wifi router. They haven't screwed anyone.
Well. ok, but at least tell them to just defend themselves, not to go around conquering those who were not wise enough to be born selected by their god.
Why not just forbide war against other nations?
That would be enlightened +5. I mean, you would expect a wise god to have figured this out.
Of course is not a copy. That is why I put the whole "I'm being a dick here"...
But, did you watch the ending? The guy that comes from under earth is ripped off completely from FF.
I really miss some original plots, like "The Incredibles" where ALL of characters are completely unknown.
Unknown only if you never read The Fantastic Four or Watchmen.
Ok, I'm being a dick here, but it had to be said.
D'oh! I forgot that Live is not free.
Everything I wrote is wrong.

Itagaki is an asshole.

An independent group recently found that monopolistic industries more likely to bribe politicians to make ad hoc laws, and bully customers.
Also, they have definitive proof that water is wet.
Why should you trash Mario, when even Super Mario Bros 1 has a complex story?
Yeah, but sadly, neither of the Sonic Adventure games are better than Sonic 1 or 2. In fact, Sonic Adventure 2 is not good at all. And while Super Mario Sunshine is a good game, it can't hold a candle to the genius of Super Mario 3 or Super Mario World.
