You don't know the arguments, do you? You call yourself educated? The Enlightenment legacy can be seen all around us: individualism, international commerce and trade, moral cosmopolitanism, freedom of the press and a culture of publicity, technological modernity, the valorization of expertise, and on and on. All of these are bogeymen to the Left and they wish to free our society from their oppression.

The concept of "race" was birthed by the Enlightenment. Before that, there wasn't any racism, just Christians and heathens. But the white man came up with the idea there is "objective truth" and used it to oppress peoples of color. The Enlightenment's ontology, rooted in the new science of the 17th century, created a vision of human beings in nature which provided weapons to a new race-based ideology which would have been impossible without the Enlightenment.

The entire idea behind today's Left-wing thought is that there is no objective truth, only differing points of view, all equally valid. For example, there is no valid genetic basis for human intelligence, there are merely different kinds of intelligence. Native Americans do poorly at intelligence tests designed for whites, but excel at tests designed to measure storytelling intelligence.

White supremacy as enabled by the Enlightenment is most commonly conceptualized as a way for lower-class whites to feel socially superior to people from other ethnic backgrounds. More important, though, white supremacy is a tried-and-tested means for upper class whites to grow their wealth and power. This thought is all over the place on the Left and I am astonished that you are not familiar with it.

  2. This is precisely the sort of thing that workers do in China. It's funny, as I read the summary I thought "Chinese culture is spreading to America?" only to find out it was indeed in China. Yeah, the workers are paid shit and view it as their obligation to make money however they can. Men in particular are viewed as pack mules whose job it is to make money for an entire family. The family ruthlessly badgers the man to make more, make more, make more. When he makes more, they spend more. It never ends.

When he can't make enough in salary, they badger him to - not exactly steal? But use whatever position he has to utilize the employer's resources to make money for his family. Selling data is right up this alley. You can't even call it theft because nobody lost anything. It's win-win: the merchants sell more, the worker makes money he turns over to his family, the family can afford to purchase status symbols that make them look good in the eyes of people they know. This is actually a "good" case because nobody got hurt. Typically in a situation like this some middle manager substitutes shoddy materials in a product and pockets the difference, which can and does result in harm to real people.

Africa will never be big as a labor source. African nations have weak rule of law, weak courts that can resolve business disputes, weak safety for the businessmen traveling about, poor infrastructure, anti-business governments that see foreign businesses as something to squeeze money from, the list goes on. Until this changes, African labor won't happen. Even the Chinese have to bring their own workers along and insist on immunity from local laws so they can build their own trains.

Bitching about "undeserving" people getting "your" money is something that conservatives do. Luckily Californians are all in favor of wealth redistribution from the rich to the poor.

This is why it is California's great pride to contribute so much to the federal budget, and take so little in return. CA keeps other, poorer states solvent when absent that help, those states would not be able to fund their social welfare recipients. What a great state, so unselfish and willing to help. Other states would take a transactional attitude: I did for you, now you do for me. Fortunately the good people of California don't believe in that kind of right wing bullshit. To each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities. The founding statement of socialism, which California is firmly putting into practice.
