I'm just curious, but have you lived in China? You sure seem to know a lot about the country. Having personally lived in a "less free" country (than the US), I can tell you that foreigners usually don't live by the same rules as the locals. Moreover many foreigners in China have illegal satellite dishes (including my dad's boss) and it's no big deal.

Canada has had several referendums on the separation of Quebec. Don't say it wouldn't allow it, that's just not true. On Taiwan, the best would be to let the taiwanese decide. But China would't allow it, since it actually stands to loose.

2) Fox News is NOT balanced. It selectively reports on important facts. Other channels (mostly, we're not talking Al-Manar news channel here) do a better job at balanced news.
