Overhere in The Netherlands, LPG is much cheaper too. My point is though that when LPG was the number 1 fuel (instead of regular gas), the price would be much higher.
Thanks for the input. Never knew South-Korea has so many gas-stations with LPG. I was told that The Netherlands was the single or one of the few countries in the world actually using LPG for cars.
If encourage means pre-install Jabber with Windows, your idea might have a chance.
Within 2 years I saw all of my friends move from ICQ to MSN, because it came pre-installed with their latest Windows- release. That left me with a large list of offline friends in my ICQ-contactlist. So I moved too.
With a small userbase and no support from MICROS~1, your suggestion unfortunately won't make it.
Welcome to the darks-side of monopolistic capitalism.
Given the actual marketshare of Apple, the current rise in high-profile Mac bashing make me think. What is this?
Ever seen a fight on the streets in real life ? First a small guy challenges a huge muscular guy with his loud mouth. Then the agitated big guy knocks down his smaller and weaker opponent. When the latter is on the ground unconcious, the big guy's buddies come in and start kicking the defenseless knocked down guy.
I do agree with most of what you say. But why does Safari feel so much faster than, that's my experience, Internet Explorer or iCab on OS 9.2.2 ?
Next to that, I think the speed-gap between the X and 9 OS'es (not the software that runs on it) has become smaller, with still a small advantage for OS 9.
But shouldn't OS X be much faster and more efficient with it's processes than OS 9 ever was ? And isn't that because of a combination of both OS and optimized software ?
I seriously blame the software for the lack of speed. Yes, also Apple is getting far behind with it's hardware developments. But the performance-gap is not just a hardware issue.
December 2002 I was asked to do a migration for a printing-company, where it's new PowerMac G4 dual 1GHz needed to be migrated from OS 9 to OS X. But this was impossible, since the company had decided not to switch to Adobe Indesign but stick with Quark XPress. Using Quark 5 in a Classic environment, with all of it's font- and colormanagement, would be terribly difficult.
Since there is still no carbonized or cocoa-version of Quark, the majority of companies is waiting with their migration. And since there aren't a lot of companies (*cough!*Customers that pay for their software *cough!*) using OS X and software, spending much time and money on OS X and AltiVec optimization is not highly important for commercial developers.
If OS X had a larger marketshare, I think the software would be much better optimized and the differences would be much smaller. For instance, see what Apple did with the Safari-browser !
(I don't say that a Mac with OS X would be faster than a PC though, since that is pure speculative and can't be tested !)
Ow man, this gives me goosebumps ! Cool to see that this scene still exists ! In the late eightees I was part of the Quasar Soft demogroup in The Netherlands. We mainly used C64, Amiga 500 and MSX.
I doubt that any of the members ever saved those 5.25" or 3.5" floppies, which really is too bad. But what stunned me most is that I discovered the music that we created and used (using Rob Hubbard's Routine). For those interested, you can find some of our music here:
Here in The Netherlands there's a radio-station called Radio 538 which uses RDS to display the spots where cops do their mobile speed-checks.
It'll cost you some extra money as it's a commercial 0900-phonenumber which you have to call to tell the highway and spot where you saw the check, but on the other hand other people will do the same for you.
If everyone invests a little, the earnings are big enough:-)
Well, again it's a contest for x86-platforms with Windows. Guess I'll keep feeding RC5-64 with 9 Mkeys/sec then with my G4/867 on OS X. After that I'll have S@H and F@H to feed my CPU's hunger.
...the Kyoto treaty wouldn't have exempted China, India, Brazil, and every other third world nation with major and growing pollution problems.
OK, these are the 3rd world countries. Which western countries should be added to this list, being responisible for an even bigger part in the world's pollution ?
Thanks for the input. Never knew South-Korea has so many gas-stations with LPG. I was told that The Netherlands was the single or one of the few countries in the world actually using LPG for cars.
If LPG was the main fuel, the price would be 5-6 times higher than it is now.
Poor souls with no terminal but only wisdom of using a GUI might want to try in a text-editor:

So this is what the Pentagon needed to attack Iraq ? We can expect an attack any day now !
...the rest of that chick on your desktop (the one with the translucent Terminal windows on it) . ;-)

That's what they call civilisation.

You need a SID-player to hear it, and that's just what I'm going to do right now :-)
Man, I'm getting old....
Just kick private Parts. That will hurt him as well.
I know that BDSM-people like the military a lot. Now wait... BDSM.. BSD... ah !
...was good for something. My DSL d/l-speed doubled after the Cisco's at UT got smoked. :-)
If I compare my quicksilver G4 with this x86-casemod, the latter looks to me like a transvestite with a goatee and a low voice.
Sorry guys, it just ain't "the real thing"

Usually, file-compression is quite useless on ~1 Kb files.
This wil surely offer some new possibilities to people who are asked to go fuck themselves.
(Yes, I'm just jealous as I just can't afford an iPod at the moment =) )
The number of anti-Apple rants you've posted within 1 single news-item makes me wonder whether you're not owning a Mac yourself. ;-)

There is an excellent Java-plugin for Netscape/Fizilla for OS X. I use it with Mozilla 0.9.9 for OS X and it works great !
You can download it here at VersionTracker.com.
