    Prions do not self replicate. They can merely spread their degenrate configuration to other preexisting molecules

          My bad. However the "self" part has no relevance. I will change my statement to "any replicated molecule is theoretically capable of evolution if the replication process is less than perfect".

          It is the flaw in replication, not the method used, that causes mutation and hence evolution when a population of "normal" and "mutant" organisms or molecules are subjected to environmental stress. In the case of a prion - if a mutation results in increased molecular stability or increased activity, or both, it will be "more successful" than its predecessor.

    After all there's nothing "magical" about DNA. Any self replicating molecule should theoretically be capable of evolution if the replication process is less than perfect.

          That sums up the problem with society right there. Nobody gives a shit about your feelings of entitlement - didn't your parents ever tell you that? The world is a cold, hard, uncaring place. It has to be. Otherwise no one would be able to do anything because there is ALWAYS someone who is going to bitch about one thing or the other.

          You want to be "entitled", buy your own damned plane. Otherwise learn to compromise some of your feelings of superiority in order to get something you obviously want - ie reasonably affordable, fast travel.

          And what I'd really like to know is why you insist on her eating airline food. SHE'S NOT MISSING OUT ON ANYTHING. Pack her a lunch, and it will probably be much better than anything anyone else is eating. Oh wait, that bread looks like it might be a BOMB!

          That's funny. And all those gluten sensitive pretzel fed passengers will be banned from using the washrooms during the last part of the flight, or probably flagged as suspicious if they make more than 1 trip to the restroom.     I wouldn't do that on a US-bound flight. You'll be sucker punched, detained, probably tasered and then accused of being a terrorist and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction to bring down the plane (hey, the pilot MIGHT have had a peanut allergy)! The speaking Swahili will help a great deal towards bashing you into the profile, because everyone knows that people who speak weird languages are primitive savages that want to destroy America...

    I think both are bad, but the importance and money we spend on the issues far outstrips the reality and social cost of either.

          I'm not afraid to fly, or afraid of terrorists, or even American. But honestly this "full body scanner" doesn't bother me at all? Privacy concerns? As if the person who has to see 30,000 naked people per shift is going to care about "seeing me naked" under my clothes... big deal.

    Presumably the use of a "full body scanner" won't be considered "indecent" in court. Whereas pictures of a naked child holding a sex toy for instance would be.

    If you can't tell the difference, you should be shot. The Guardian certainly deserves to be. Because presumably they would bring up the same argument against, say, visits to the pediatrician or medical imaging.

    Trying to make a catchy sounding headline by using the same first letter in every word, while obfuscating the meaning is something that's only done by shoddy would be journalists. It ranks just below turning your headline into a question, and only proves the weak mind of the journalist in question when they a) actually spend time thinking of which words to use and b) pat themselves on the back for how clever they think they are.

          The site is merely a statement of fact. These people died unnecessarily by their own carelessness. The tongue in cheek part is that, if a tendency for such carelessness was hereditary, those genes won't be passed on. That's it. You don't need to be overly dramatic.     Best Buy will ignore it until the moment it looks like they will really go to court, then Best Buy will settle.

    The settlement will be for $48 million. The lawyers will get $45 million, and the other $3 million will be in the form of "certificates" awarded to the plaintiffs good for 1 free "optimization" on a computer purchase at Best Buy within the next 12 months.

    That's how it works.

          The TSA are responsible for the safety of no one. As shown repeatedly.... how can that be stressful?

          1. Go to work, shuffle papers around, waiting for the next "attack".
          2. Impose harsher restrictions to prevent that specific type of attack, while trying to maximize passenger inconvenience. If an attack is carried out, claim that the system worked and prevent geriatrics from using the bathroom.

          IANAL but you can't send someone a document to force them to shut up. Even in the military, you have to swear an oath and/or sign a document that you won't reveal classified information. In business, you sign a non disclosure agreement. However you have to GIVE consent. It can't be assumed.

    And brain SIZE has nothing to do with "intelligence", otherwise whales would have invented space travel a long time ago. Male brains are roughly 150cc bigger than female brains, however no studies can show that females (given the same chances at education) are 10% "dumber" than their male counterparts.

    The claim is sensationalistic BS that is absolutely meaningless, unless we can actually analyze the brain TISSUE and see how many ganglia per unit volume and how many fibers it consisted of. THEN we can have an estimate of "intelligence".
