so I predict this will continue for a month or two, tops.
They will not be getting their cancelled subscriber base back afterwards. See the thing about living in the third world is - piracy has no consequences. When you cut off legitimate paying customers and give them no other option to view the shows they want to see, why the hell would they go back to paying once they discover exactly how easy it is to find the content "elsewhere"? A customer doesn't give a shit about Hollywood's "business model" or agenda, or Netflix "corporate policy". They want to see what they want to see, and if you don't provide it someone else will. Legally or not.
The very instant they block my VPN access (I live in Panama but I don't want to see fucking "LATAM" content full of un-necessary subtitles, fucking Chavo del 8 and Colombian/Venezuelan soap operas since I am a Canadian living in PTY) is the very instant I cancel my monthly sub.
See now if the industry was REALLY smart they would have the regions as subscriber "channels" and let you choose which region's content you wish to be subscribed to.
It's likely that it's the content providers that thinks that they will profit more from the content if it's made scarce in some areas - at the cost of annoying the consumers.
No I honestly think its because Hollywood is too fucking lazy to re-write its standard industry contracts. It's a well established fact by now that the ONLY thing restricting content from a region does is boost piracy of that content in the "scarce" region. Hollywood idiots need to learn that the world has changed and they can't afford to turn away a customer with money in his hand EVER.
There will be no "next Hitler", just like there will be no "next Napoleon". Certainly Hitler was no Napoleon. Napoleon was a military genius but his famous military accomplishments (having lost very few battles despite at times tremendous odds against him) were far shorter lived than his achievement with re-writing and organizing law: the Napoleonic Code lives on today in many guises because it makes sense. Hitler was an appalling strategist, an amateur tactician at best (who got lucky a very few times), a ruthless and reckless politician who however managed to motivate a demotivated people through his obsession with national spirit and national identity - crucial for a broken people who had lost everything through a devastating war, revolt and punitive blockade and reparations.
Of course there can always be someone worse than Hitler in the future. But the times are different and the solution will therefore be different.
The "revenge" for the Crusades was Salah-ah-Din. So people who use that pathetic excuse both have no idea of history and also need to be asked - exactly how many times do they think "revenge" must be extracted before enough is enough? Of course we're dealing with people more than happy to keep killing each other for thousands of years because of what one ancestor said to another ancestor about his camel.
Yeah. Divide 2 billion by $400 and see how many units they need to sell. BEFORE paying any costs. While some people can afford a $400-$600 toy, not everybody can. Especially when you need a pretty uber PC to actually run it, too.
Well it's just a question of mathematics. Even if $600 was pure profit they would have to sell over 3 million units to recover the initial investment. Facebook exists in another reality distortion field, one where money comes easily. This was created by the banks that floated the IPO, and is maintained by Wall St. which for some reason values FB stock at incredible multiples. But in reality, money is not that easy to come by for average folks. And while Zuckerberg might have come into his billions quite easily, it's not all that easy to actually earn billions from a product.
I blame Facebook because they bought Oculus. Ultimately they are the ones reponsible.
Maybe they were hoping for the "iPhone effect", where people enter this reality distortion field and justify buying one no matter how much it costs. But Zuckerberg is learning he's not Steve Jobs.
With 2 billion dollars to purchase the company and who knows how much else invested into R&D, it has to be targeted at the average person just to break even. At $600 they will run out of money very soon and we can thank Facebook for killing Oculus. Maybe Valve/Steam will come up with something better.
Wait a second, isn't Samsung the company that thought it would be a good idea to stick a camera on television sets and record people as they watch TV? So they plan to collect and mine data gathered from fridges now too? Is there another camera pointed at the kitchen?
Plenty of us still read books, too. Note the market for regular paper books is not dead, and e-readers are quite common. There is "internet reading" and real reading. Like there is fast food and good food.
You'll never get rid of the fan in high end laptops. Well, unless radical new tech to deal with thermal efficiency is invented. Since a low end laptop doesn't require much more cpu than today's phones, the fan in those will probably go the way of the dodo.
There are different types of usefulness. Your post, for example, which attempts to impress the reader with your apparent technical knowledge is only public masturbation rather than adding anything further to the discussion. It has nothing to do with political correctness which was brought up by GP and addressed by myself. However if you wish to find the knowledge you seek I suggest other threads or failing that, perhaps another source than slashdot.
We're all specialists son. In fact I am willing to bet I have higher doctoral and post doctoral qualifications than you. Go masturbate somewhere else.
The final solution happens when the last living thing dies on this planet.

"What missile, amigo?"
Effective enough that NK threatened to take out the loudspeakers with artillery fire.
I dare you to try to run a business, lol

He breathed life into the chemical bits to make you.
And I thought _I_ had bad breath!
Where is your god now?

Two things can be inferred from this. Dad is pretty stupid. And the kid really sucks at that game.

Zipping through an asteroid belt: sand blasting?
1 atmosphere != 600 atmospheres... under salt water you get an atmosphere's worth of pressure every 10m.
It's good to know that $30 million dollars is only good to imitate Santa's reindeer.
Also, Han shot first a couple times :)
More akin to sodomy I think.
