  2. Indeed. I'd need a hell of a lot more than 10k to jettison the life I've built for myself where I am. I'm not in my 20's anymore and uprooting requires a SIGNIFICANT benefit. not a 5K a year bonus.

    Paper maps don't include your current location or directions. They're also incredibly unwieldy to use when walking about.

    Libraries around here are where hobos hang out. I once read a book when I was a kid that described a device that a kid could carry around that was an encyclopedia and any book or reference that could be accessed. I liked that idea. I still do.

    Yea the world worked, but now it works better. Better, contextual information to DATA is a great thing. Don't get me started on social media though.

    I actively use a faked "smartphone zombie" mode to avoid conversations on the bus. I'm not interested in spending my commute getting to know some homeless dude with no edit button. I find being intent on my phone and telling him "sorry, I'm texting my girlfriend." tends to shut that down early.

    And if it doesn't I feel free to just tell him to fuck off out of my face.

    Horse shit. Some things are SLIGHTLY more expensive, but the produce is overall far better quality than Publix, for instance, and there are items you cannot get at other places produce wise.

    Prime customers get a good discount.

    The nearest Whole Foods is not within walking distance, so even with a decent tip, orders over $35, having free delivery, are cheaper than if I got an uber/lyft there.

    I'll take the time savings and quality. It's DEFINITELY not twice as expensive for like-quality items.

    anyone who does use this will be at a severe disadvantage to those who don't. And if oyu make separate networks it will be nearly deserted.

    You're assuming that people using this are participating in competitive multiplayer games in VR. I certainly don't. something like this would increase immersion in a single player RPG.

    It's not possible to not do business with corporations that are essentially utilities. Unless you're willing to go without electricity, or phone or data.

    Disclaimer, I live within 10 miles of MagicLeap HQ. I don't work there, and I don't currently know anyone that does, but I'm told by someone who DOES know employees that there are multiple other product lines ready to go.

    The current device exists so that people can create content that future devices will give access to.

    You can block Amber Alerts. I did immediately after I found out about them. I'm going to be zero use in those scenarios because I don't pay any more attention to children than it takes to avoid tripping over them. As a single middle-aged man, it doesn't pay for me to pay attention to them at any level. And I don't give a shit about a vehicle with a kidnapped kid on the other end of the state anyhow. I'll never be there and they're not going to be headed here. I DO NOT FUCKING CARE. (it's probably the non-custodial parent anyway. Not getting involved)

    I watched his testimony. He's about the right age to have been a senior when I was a freshman in HS. He acts EXACTLY like all the rich, entitled jocks I had in my school. And they regularly had parties where they got girls drunk and did shit to them. Wasn't apparent to me at the time (I wasn't invited) but I heard the stories. His entitled, arrogant attitude ("How about you, Senator?") shows me that he's STILL that kind of garbage.

    I honestly had to check that I wasn't watching a parody, and that Chris Farley wasn't secretly alive and in heavy makeup. It was that fucking absurd.

    BUT THAT'S THE WAY HE REALLY IS! An absolute fucking sociopath.

    Yea but shipping times from most Chinese sites I've ordered from (even Ali "express") are on the order of 6 weeks. I don't plan that far ahead usually, and I can only imagine the hassle of getting a refund or replacement in that situation.

    I've bought a few things there on a whim, but the quality and arrival times were rather random, and that's before Tariff-Boy got a stiffy for trying to fuck everybody who imported.
