These days, it is cool to be destructive. There used to be this thing called "morality," which is totally and completely out of style. Few are raised today with any regard for others, but instead, their self-centeredness is encouraged. Now, the attitude is, if you don't have to look 'em in the eye, take 'em for all they got.
It's true... How many Segways have you seen going down the street (not in some publicity stunt). I have seen exactly ONE. And to be honest, a grown man looks odd on these, much like when they ride any other type of scooter.
They'd be great for kids, but how many parents are going to get their kids $5,000 toys, especially ones that crash as much as these.
These things get much more press than they deserve. I think it comes from guilty media trying to live up to buying into the "It" hype. Remember in 1999 months of hype. " 'It' is going to change how cities are built," I recall.
It's just a scooter.
Moderators cannot ban IPs - having said that, the moderation system should be modified to provide for perma-bans (auto-deletion of posts) from idiots like the gnaa, stinky fingers etc that draw that kind of negative moderation.
All I can say, judging by the links in the spam I'm getting lately, is that the spammers have jumped all over PHP. Each and every last goddamn one of them is using it to process their form responses.
I used their settlement wizard, results are below. I claimed purchase of 3 copies of Windows and 2 copies of excel, which I am sure I did over the years, plus or minus.
So they get the $100 from microsift, used to pay for downloadable copies of lindows 4.0 (some kind of windowized Linux) and star office (with license), and I get a place in line for one of the 10,000 free PCs, once the settlement is final (June 2004).

Seriously, if you feel so strongly then knock yourself out buying CDs. Unfortunately, I won't, and here are the reasons. I've probably bought, by conservative estimate, $8,000 to $10,000 of music recordings over the lsat 25 years, but no more. They've lost that, and that's just one person.
Lately, not just the RIAA but businesses in general seem to think when conditions change and things no longer go their way, they must try to sue everybody, even paying customers. I cite Rambus, SCO and others familiar to the "laughing-stock" Slashdot crowd. Excuse me if that doesn't entice me into doing business with that type of people.
Your argument would have more merit if the RIAA was suing the thieving downloaders. They are not. They are suing the sharers.
Wow, everybody look at this holier-than-thou guy! He never downlo^H^H^H stole a song in his life! He tells us all how to live, even leading by example! I bet He walks on water! A) the RIAA is suing people who SHARE not who DOWNLOAD, adn are extorting money from a CHILD B) you are still boycotting the RIAA by buying a movie
I would think that supports the market for used CDs. Right now, due to demand, a used cd has a retail value from $5 to $8 or so. They used to be around $10, but the stores (at least around here) have had to cut prices lately due to lack of demand.
If demand (and prices) goes back up, then some people will buy new cds because they aren't THAT much more expensive. I do not buy ANY cds, used or new.
The thing to do is download from alt.binaries.mp3 or some such similar, at least until the RIAA decides to go after those downloaders.
You and the AC both say you think new music is crap. My point is, your parents uttered those same words, and your grandparents before them. They had their reasons, and so do you, but we all agree on one thing: we think new music is crap.
Don't say because you listen to all those different kinds of music, therefore your generation is different, proving this time the music *really* is crap. You are almost certainly an exception, judging by the sales figures of Finnish folk music, and therefore cannot point to yourself as an example to prove the esoteric tastes of an entire generation. You're well-rounded, and that's a good thing, but you're by far overestimating the average listener.
My point is, to state the recording industry is failing due to crappy music is false. If it ewre not, it would have failed at previous generational changes. The recording industry is failing simply because it insists on a 1950s business model in the age of computers.
Just another possible avenue of explanation for your feelings. Your parents felt the same way about the previous generation' music and same for your grandparents.
A new generation is brought up immersed in the current music and they end up predisposed to it for the rest of their lives.
Your greatgrandparents had to buy sheetmusic and play it themselves, or listen live. Your grandparents bought vinyl 45's and recieved music over the radio for the first time, and in film musicals. Your parents bought double-live LP's or cassette tapes and were exposed to music wherever they went.
Your generation was brought up on CDs and immersed in music on video and commercialization. Nothing is cooler than blasting your tunes out of your car, an act which puzzles me (insofar as the RIAA hasn't gone after them, to get licensing fees for public performance of music).
This new generation is possibly different. They came into existence with the computer infrastructure and Internet already in place. Those aware now experienced the "free" period of the dot-com boom, and are used to getting things for free, and instantaneously, online. They Kazaa as easily as you or I Google. Not only do they have at their disposal devices to compress large amounts of music into extremely portable packages, they do so enthusiastically, often after altering the music to their tastes.
So it appears to me to be a generational thing. The new music IS crap. To you and I. But that's not the reason the music industry is in its death throes.
There's a freeware program called Refresher that you can have load a URL every seven seconds. Someone wrote it for ebay (IE4 based). Oh wait here's a link: Refresher

Maybe they send mail you don't want, but you know who they are. And you can get them to stop. They are not spammers.
Spammers disguise who they are, relay thru third parties, and typically advertise stuff that don't work. Amazon etc sell books, dvds and legit merchandise.
But I do object to Amazon's inadvertent "third party spamming" using affiliates. Google on certain subjects (with javascript off) and all you get are machine-generated pages that link thru with affiliate id to Amazon using meta refresh.
Remember when Monica Seles got stabbed in the back in Germany by a tennis fan who liked Steffi Graf?
The attacker, Gunther Parche, was sentenced rather lightly by the German court. He never served one day in jail.
He succeeded in his goal which was to put Graf back at No. 1. He succeeded in closing the formerly open interaction between fan and player. This sort of incident has not happened again, but the point is he succeeded. So be happy the court at least fined SCO ten grand.
A postscript, Monica Seles has ever since refused to set foot on German soil.
FL should tax the spammers that
operate
out of 561 -- they operate HUGE networks (assuming you include their
wan links and Korean relays) and could be a source of "enlarged" revenue,
if you get my drift.
Hindsight is sharp, but do not forget the film came out in 1985. Giga- was not in common usage until after the first commercial 1-gig drive came out in 1995. I recall actual discussion about the pronunciation -- is it a Jig-a byte, or, to avoid the potential negative racial connotations, a Gig-a byte.
In a couple years I guess we will have to settle on vernacular pronunciations of peta- (10^15), and exo- (10^18) bytes.
Matrix Recycled -- I mean, Reloaded, WAS the trailer for 3. Honestly, that movie was a huge disappointment for me. Absolutely nothing new there. The storyline was so vague, only thing that sticks in my mind was the Cadillac product placement. I'll probably check out 3 after release on DVD.
Nothing does. I'm just wondering why all 150 viral messages I have received so far today have X-Mailer Outlook Express, each and every one in the header.
And in previous outbreaks, the same was true.
Do you think there is a correlation between Outlook usage and viral propagation?

I want to know where to score some. I never see pirate CD's for sale, unless you're talking about Bill Gate's greatest hits.
No one knows, but here is an article which addresses this issue.
There's a freeware program called Refresher that you can have load a URL every seven seconds. Someone wrote it for ebay (IE4 based). Oh wait here's a link: Refresher 2.5

Easier to post the list to usenet, or make a geocities page and get it indexed on google. The idiots will be spamming themselves in notime.

Looks like a variant -- subject lines are slightly different, too.
I notice the Sobig has kicked in in the last couple hours again (10pm PDT). Anyone else?
They're also missing the comforting sounds of high-speed paper tape, punchcards and wall-sized magnetic tape units!
The demise of computing in my opinion was the invention of rope memory technology and CRT displays.
